Birdsong Black T K9

I have an older K9 with the Birdsong Black T finish. It says on the box label, Black T.
Does anyone know how common this finish is on a Kahr? I have read a little about Birdsong, so I know it's a good gun finish. I bought this gun used, guy told me it had been in his bedside table for about the last 15 yr, and only shot a few times (I know we always get that story but in this case it looks to be true, maybe).

Tell me what you know about the K9s with this finish.

yup its a story, they don't have bedside tables. Nightstands but not tables.He'slyingother than that part, that Kkahr could have 30K rounds thorugh it and if taken great care of , u could not tellif it has 200 rounds through it. Thatis a cool finish, andonewould thikalso if the gun did have alot of rounds thrugh it, there would be some finish wear,sobeing that is not there, he was telling thetruth maybe on the round part, but I don't know about this bedside table sh!t. Course he might have no legs eiter and has to eat by his bed, therefore bedside table would be OK. Just sayin...

Hey Jocko, this post is not you finest work. I have read a few of your post and this one...well. Maybe 5 am is not your best time. LOL There is such a thing as a bedside table, but that is not the point. I have a Colt Commander that since I have had it, has not left the nightstand except for the FEW times I have taken it to the range in a gun rug . Point is, there are people out there who are pretty honest. It is often hard to tell and only regular dealings with someone will tell you their true character. Gunmut, I have gone through a lot of Kahrs and have not seen the ID you describe. The Black Diamonds that I have owned have been top notch. I once owned an older black K9, but can't remember the Black T you describe. Hey you like it? Good deal? Go with it I say. :Amflag2:

I could be wrong, but I think the Black T was the first finish used on the stainless K9s when the K9 went to all stainless. I don't think it was used very long though. How many total Kahrs have this finish is a mystery, but my guess is, not many, maybe in the hundreds.

I also don't know how long it went but it was a standard finish for some period of time.

A detective here had a birdsong finish applied to a rifle and it's very nice.

I'm hoping someday to send them my Hi Power for a complete makeover.

the other 99%of the members on thisw forum realized I was again funnin the poster, not knocking him. I don't remember describing a black T. as I have never owned one or even seen one. I think uj got memixed up with some one else aybe..

Checking on the Wayback Machine, the K9 Birdsong Black-T finish was listed as a new model in 1997 and went for about $126 more than the standard matte black K9: http://web.archive.org/web/19970624190838/http://www.kahr.com/pistols.html
The model was listed again in 1998, but was gone in 1999.

Walter Birdsong is deceased and the company is now run by his son(s).

For decades, Birdsong's Black T finish was applied to every Sig Sauer 226 9mm ordered by the the U.S. Navy Seals. If I recall correctly, the Black T finish had the highest rating for resistance to salt water spray, which was one of the military contract tests.

I have several firearms with the finish, and find them attractive and durable.

Thanks for the information and entertainment. I learned a long time ago to never let the facts get in the way of a good story; so this K9 set in / on a bedside table / nightstand for 15 yr and had one mag through it

The black T does look good; there is some wear on the barrel hood but that is about all

My 21 cents oin this. I would be more impressed if the fella told me it had a 1000 flawless rounds thorugh it and it has set on the nite stand for many years. One mag, if u think aobut it means nadda. the gun cannot be broken in or should I say smoothed out so much like kahrs do with rounds down range.

Wear on the hood I would say is perfecxtly normal. That birdsong finsih is not as tuff as the DLC fnish of todays kahrs,

I think we tend to put way way to uch ermphasis on how many rounds a gun has had through it. My bet is that 90% of gun onwers are doing damn good to shoot a 1000 rounds out of most of their center fire guns, (not talking about this forum either). Just that most people buy a semi or wheel gun, shoot it to see if they like it and then it sits, and sits and sits. U can't shoot out a kahr. I would approach th]is old K9 as I would if I justbought a new kahr. I would do the full prepp, and lube thing. Its a new gun tha thas been sitting, so that doesn't make it ready to go..

I'm waiting for my MK9 I bought a couple of months ago to come back from Birdsong. I sent it to them a couple of weeks ago, but will probably have to wait another 4-6 weeks before it comes back. I'll post pics when it does.

I did; took it to the range a few times to check it out and it runs just fine. I have two other K9s (if one is good to have two more can't be a bad thing) that I shoot more often; but my Black-T is a favorite.

Speaking of putting to much emphasis on the number of rounds through it, when are you going to start shooting that worn out PMJ9 of yours again? You've been stuck at 32 thousand rounds since as far back as I can remember, you old reprobate.

If you look at our favorite Kahr's picture thread, the last entry is birdsong finish. One of 400 made in 2000. Put on nuclear sub stuff to corrosion proof parts, and help some parts slide easier without lubrication. Also in my avatar.
