Today I purchased my first Kahr, being the CM9. My other firearms I have are a Sig 229, M&P 9, and Ruger Sr9c. On my gunsmith's recommendation I purchased the Kahr. I have to tell you all, after going through the forum I'm a little worried about my purchase. I seem to see all this break in period stuff and I'm worried the Kahr is a finicky gun.
I brought the gun home, and as I always do, gave it a breakdown and good cleaning and lubricating. My question is are issues typical with the Kahr firearms?

The prep is really what a person should do to any new gun, not just a Kahr.
Like most you could probably take it out of the box and go shooting. I did with one of mine. The prep is just a get to know it and a little insurance.
Kahrs are not finicky. Like any some have little quirks and Kahr is honest enough to say right in the manual that they need a 200 round break in.
Some need it, most don't.
I'd not start worrying until you have something to worry about. It's not good for ya. I'm certain it will run, if it don't Kahr will make it run, no worries. Lots of smart folks here to provide any help you might need.
My prescription for you---- more shooting, less worrying.

I figured that, I would never think a gun manufacturer could develop as great a reputation as Kahr has having issues with firearms. Most of the maintenance stuff I do with all my guns. I was going through the tech forum and was taken back. Actually not to worried, I know how it is to break in a gun. I think the break in is the fun part. Good to know issues are not common though......

Glocks do always work, I prefer a slimmer grip though. That's why I went with the M&P.

Shoot it, enjoy it. Even when I abuse mine, it works. Always has. It has spent years in my pocket only being let out for occasional range trips and a quick cleaning.

I use a Stays Put. Used to use DeSantis. The Stays Put is much better and is closed on the end. That keeps the pocket lint and junk out of the pistol. Plus, the SP holster draws much better and stays in place better.

Jeremy,
Fear not. Take it apart and clean any junk out and lube it well then go shoot it and have some fun. You have one of the lightest and most reliable ultra compacts sold. I have close to 1000 rounds at least through mine and I only had maybe one hickup on the first outing. After that it's shot everything I fed it from steel cased to premium ammo.
I use a cheapo uncle mikes in the pocket and it works well for me.
Go enjoy shooting that new pistol and don't worry about anything.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

Welcome to the forum, jeremy1517! Normally, Wyntrout posts a welcome with some very important info, but he must be busy elsewhere. So here is a cut/paste of his thorough recommendations:
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can view it and/or download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Please watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!
Take down and re-assembly videos:

K series:

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lubrication Diagram:
http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14750
Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Another great resource for information on Kahrs... Archives of Magazine and Internet Reviews for Kahr pistols by industry experts. They test these pistols and report on their views and the ammo they tested in it. This is a good way to find ammo that might fit your needs along with accuracy and feeding in the pistol... usually from a rest with velocity and energy, as well as penetration and expansion sometimes... very informational.

One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.
Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.
Here's a video on that. The first part is what I'm talking about:

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!
Also, welcome to the CM9 Owners Club! Our official symbol is the wide grin smily because we are so happy with our purchase that we can't wipe the smiles off our faces!
Here is your club badge.

The best holster I have found for forget-it-is-there comfort 24/7 with my CM9 is the PJ IWB Holster. There are so, so many members here that will concur. Paul is a great guy and a real gun lover, and he performs magic with kydex - making the holster incredibly comfortable to where you can't tell it is there whether sitting, standing or moving about. It is like the mass of the gun disappears, becoming one with your body. I carry mine with a 15° cant just behind my hip - the sweet spot. I prefer the one linked above with the over the belt clip. I normally wear the above under a loose shirt.

No, no Glocks don't "always" work. I have experience......twice which rendered it unable to be fired. The Glock found a new home. My PM9 much more reliable.

spoken like a true glockster:Amflag2:
but in the mean time u might want to try to explain to the Indiana State Polie why they had to return their 1200 Glock model 22 in exchange for G17, due to having just to many issues Just sayin
Note: the Illinois State Police have also reportedly had problems with their own Glock handguns, with Glock replacing all 2,270 ILSP Glock Model 22 handguns at a significant discount around June of last year
Now if this was a kahr scenario. they wold be cruvified to no end and it would be talked about for years tocome but it seems for glock is just is business as usual, wilh no real ill effects.
I sold glocks for years, never had one issue, I own a G19 the best semi I have ever owned as far as for hitting where I aim, but trust me to my knowledge GLOCKS CANNOT WALK ON WATER.:amflag:

I have had my PM9 for a couple of months and have had 400 rounds through it. Only problem I had was 1 brass to the forehead in the first 25 rounds. I my glock 19 gen4 at the same time. I love the 19 and PM9 but the glock popped me in the head with brass 4 times on the same trip. Both have been flawless since then! Less worrying and more shooting!
