Gentlemen, I am having an issue with my new Kahr CM9. I have put 150 rounds through it, and on the the the last round of the magazine, it fails to go into full battery. I can bump the back of the slide and the round will fire and lock open, like it should.
I called Kahr with the issue and they said a new recoil spring should take care of the problem. I received the new spring and it is twice as long as the stock one. The stock has 13 coils, the new one has 20 coils. There lies the problem, you can not physically get the new spring compressed enough to get it in.
I called Kahr again and spoke to two different reps. One said it will fit as is, the other one said it needs to be trimmed to fit? I know that the PM9's are shipping with a new 15 coil recoil spring. My neighbor, and a friend of mine, both Kahr owners, said to keep shooting the gun with the stock spring and it should work itself out after break-in. Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks in advance for the help.

The spring may appear to be twice as long, because the original spring took a set. The number of coils may differ, but the two springs may have the same rate of compression. It could also be that Kahr sent the wrong spring. You could have the gun looked at by your local gunsmith or you could order a new spring from Wolff Gun Springs. They aren't expensive.

Muggsy, I did call Wolff Springs, and the CS rep. I spoke to said that they only have the "old-style" 13 coil springs for the PM9. He said I would be better off going through Kahr.

stock recoil springs are now 13 never heard or seen a 20 coil one, , sure would like to see that photo. At one time the cm9 had a 15 coil recoil spring but since kahr has made a change and I am pretty sure now it is 13 coils just like the PM9 models (old style). I think kahr got swo many complaints from owner who could not insert he 15 coil that they made this change. It makes sense to me. I can say if ayone at kahr said to clip coils, he might be right but IMO they are full of sh~!t to tell anyone that. U order a recoil spring for your model it should come ready to go on. None of the do it urself crap. there is no way I can see a 20 coil sprinhg ever getting into a cm9.
Wolffs is gona tell u that to. but if ur cm9 has 13 coils then wolffs recoil spring will indeed work perfectly. I don't see the thickness of these coils changing either. Just my 21 cents on this. My opinion, buy wolffs PM9 recol springs and ur good to go. no clipping is needed either.
I am dissappinted in that kahr would tell anyone to "CLIP" FOKKING RECOIL SPRINGS.
Unless kahr has again made a change. a photo would be nice to see.

Jocko, Thanks for your insight. I can't believe that Kahr is sending out a "one-size-fits-all" recoil spring either.I don't feel they should have the customer cut down the spring, if I need a recoil spring for a CM9, send me a spring for a CM9, period !
I may take your advice and just order a spring from Wolff. My gun did come with the 13 coil spring. Would there be any advantage to getting the extra power spring, 20.5 lbs. vs. the stock 18 lb. one?
I will try to post a photo tonight when I get home, if I can figure out how! <LOL>

buy them from wolffs, buy a 3 pak of the factory setting and one of the 20.5 setting. U gotta realize the 20.5willhve one morecoil, soit installs a tad harder butonce u get a few rounds through the gun the spring takes its desgned set and u wo't evenknow the different. Ihve the 20.5 in myPMJ9, for reasons, I have no clue, just feltIwouldoike um better, being my kahr if ported to Ican't say an6 less felt recoil is due tothe heavier springs, which some will reportcan help a tad. U gonna pay the same postage with wolffs so load up. think aobut a 3 pak of their 5% extra magazine strength springs. they are IMO super and again ucan't realytell any difference but itis there, and hell while ur at it order one of thier 5# striker springs. this is a drop in and t is super. Many many here use um and love um. doesn't make a hairy triger as the travel distance stays the same. nice dropin od IMO.
unbelievalbe the 20 cil spring, simply unbelievable, definitelycame from he wrong parts bin. Normally kahr will not sell just the outter recoil spring for the cm or PM series but wants one to buy the complete set for $24 plus postage, which IMO is not needed,. so did they just send u a new spring?
PM sent

They told me they are sending me the whole recoil unit. I have not received it yet. They did send another spring previously that I still have. I may experiment and cut it down to 15 coils to see if it helps the issue, while I wait for my new ones. I got your PM, thanks again for all your help.
