Ok, went to Red's in Pflugerville (north of Austin) this morning - took the new Ruger SR45 in to bust it's cherry, and also the CW45 just for a little paper punching practice & to break in the two extra 6 round factory mags I acquired recently.
The SR45 was flawless in all 8 magazine loads downrange....except for the fact that at the end of firing all 10 rounds out of each one, the slide never locked back. WTF? This is a first for any of my Rugers. Was using the two supplied factory Ruger mags.
Otherwise the pistol ran smoothly, went bang every time, and the UMC FMJ lead went where it was directed. I shall confabulate with my fellow SR45 owners on the Ruger board to ascertain what the problem might be.
The little Kahr CW45 ran like a greased pig through a Texas A&M dormitory. The grip "checkering" started to chew up the hide between my thumb & forefinger, so had to put on the new shootin' glove which I bought just for that purpose (use it when shooting the feisty little Ruger LCP too). I didn't like the bike tire slip-on and had discarded that last year.
The big surprise was the extended 7 round factory magazine that had always failed to feed the second round during other range sessions. It ran perfect all 4 times it was used! Never had noticed any burrs or oddities that had to be smoothed down...it just up & decided to work properly by itself?
Love that little thing.
