That would be me. I have trained so much with my P40 that I have neglected my Kimber TLE II. So I figured I would train with it in class today. Glad I did. Operating the safety and keeping my finger off the trig until the right time was a challenge. It was as if I was shooting it for the first time. The minute I tried to push the speed of my draw a little things went south. Not good. The Kahr is so easy that I didn't need/forgot good habits with the .45.

It was a sad day today. But I learned something I thought I already knew:

Note to self. If you have multiple carry guns. Spend equal time them all.

Confession over.

Humm ... personally ... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b297/GHGecko/ANI_GIFs/TINYs/Smiley_Tiny_Wylie_Coyote.gif ... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b297/GHGecko/ANI_GIFs/TINYs/Smiley_Tiny_Roadrunner.gif ...

... I purchased my PM9 simply because it very closely 'mimics' the trigger pull on my S&W J-Frame!

Beware the man with one gun. Dad told me that decades ago about trap shooting and it's equally valid with pistol shooting-defensive pistol. Having many is fine for the range, but swapping what's on your hip or in your pocket day to day is a bad idea.

With that, I'll admit that I'm guilty as heck for daily carry swapping.

I carry either my Boberg or CW40, both have similar trigger pulls, no safety and operate about the same. It'd usually the Boberg since it's a lot smaller.

Excellent point on practice. I bet we all have some safe queens that are taking up space as they haven't been shot in years. My practice when I carry two guns is two of the same make - perhaps different caliber but same model frames. Two xd's for carry only cost about the same as one good 1911. Would love to be able to have stopped at just one gun but did not have the willpower to quit. Otherwise I would be very good with a Marlin 30-30, a Fox SXS plastic stocked 12 ga. and a S&W M 19 38 spcl. Gosh - what a horrible thought.

I changed from 20 years of cc'n a snubby to a kahrs for a reason. Keep the DA type trigger pull. I also can change handgun size and cartridge with you learning a new carry pistol.

If you want to CC a large 1911 sized pistol maybe a TP series should be in your future. Nothing new to learn. I hunt with revolvers and enjoy sveral pistols types includeing a 1911 but only carry one make and design. Keep that really nice kimber for home duty and range fun.

I do find for some odd reason I can trip the slide open open on that big ole 1911 while shooting. Gota retrain that darm thumb. Never ever done that till I bought that 1911. My TP40 setting on my 1911 5"

My TP40 setting on the 5' 1911.

You are right on but I blame Bawanna for all of this. He made me some grips for the Ol Girl and now it is a piece of art so I want to carry it too. Otherwise it would have continued to be a range/home gun

My fault, and I take full responsibility.

I shoot a 1911 and my PM45 each time I get to a range to try and keep that muscle memory. No issues so far.

Course the only way to know for sure is how you do when you look the elephant in the eye, that's when everything will fall apart.

I can't imagine "forgetting" how to use a 1911 pattern arm under stress. Nor a J/K Frame or by extension a Kahr. Glocks as well, by necessity, at this point in life. Nothing else fits in my muscle memory bank. Nor will it ever....too many mental options can get one killed.

Exactly. Everything on the 1911 is natural and the way it should be. Even if I try to sweep the thumb safety off on my PM45 which of course doesn't exist, it don't hurt a thing.

I ride the thumb safety on my 1911's so just tensing up would be enough to push it down and get in the game.

I have a tougher time remembering to thumb the safety back up, but if you exercise proper finger control, that don't hurt nothing at all.

That be exactly how I learned to accommodate Glock with its short s/a (I know) trigger.

Ride the thumb safety...is there any other way to properly shoot a 1911?

I started a personal policy many years ago .... no matter what handguns I may take out for a "fun shoot", the last rounds I fire are from my carry gun.

I do the same thing but in reverse. The first rounds I fire are my carry guns, just the way they been carried. No preclean, or anything, out of the holster and shoot, then other stuff and usually but not always finish with the carry guns.

Well I developed bad habits with the safety. I was thumbing it off way too early and I didn't ride the safety. Actually when I started to do so, the rest of the draw felt more natural. Now need more draws to burn in that mus mem

I HAVE to do this

I also evolved to pistols from revolvers which brought me to Kahr. Keeping the same platform for all your defense weapons makes a whole lot of sense to me. So I'm sticking with mk9 and k40 for carry. There's a DA revolver in the nightstand. And as much as I wanted a 1911, I bought an LDA 45 in order to keep the same trigger. That was a good choice.

mrsurveyor Good advise and have done the same thing for many years. It can be surprising how far off your first couple shots can be after spending time with a 2lb sa trigger and then returning to my CC.
