View Full Version : Losing faith in my CM9

I made my second trip to the range yesterday with my CM 9 and suffered my second breakage in two sessions.
First day out I noticed at the end of the day that my magazine follower was broken. Kahr sent me a replacement follower in two days.
Second trip the range, and once again the mag follower was broken, but this time I noticed that the recoil spring was also broken! The tip had screwed off was missing, causing the spring to come apart.
I'm amazed that the gun functioned flawlessly through 80 rounds with the mag follower and recoil spring in that condition.
Emailed Kahr and Jay responded that he will send out a shipping label to return the gun for repair.
How can I trust my life to this gun? I'm thinking of replacing the CM 9 with a Sig 938. I looked at one today and it is sweet!

u answeredur own question asto how canu trust this gun. Thedamn gun worked withg a busted follower and a lost recoil assembly end cap. That should speak sumpin for the gun. It is very unusual that ur cm9 is breakingfollowers, as it has not been seenmuch in that model. It is a feed ramp thing and kahr will take care of that. that missing end cap, is what it is. IT CANHAPPEN. No doubt it wasnot installed correclty when made.
Ae u absolutley sur eur sig 938 will perform the same way if any of these scenarios were the same?? I can understand your dissappoitment, but thatis why u have a warranty to. Kahr will make it righ, and they wlll take careof those twoissues. Itr seems thegun is working OK otherwise.
IMO, take a deep breath, send the gu back let them fix it, giveit another trial run and then decide. Nuttin agains Sig either, they ake great stuff and I am not familiar with that model either, but I would et it would be hard pressed to be the size ad weight of ur cm9... Just my opinion. aqs usual it is ur call to make..

Hate to see that happen. Thankfully mine has been flawless out of the box. In over six months and 1000 shots I've had one mag follower break. My fault it happened. Thought I would be truthful (best policy) and ordered a new one. They sent me 2 free. As great as mine has been and with their excellent customer service I'd sure give them a chance. I have a lot of guns but for some reason my CM9 has become a part of me. And I am a grouchy, very particular old fart.

Thanks for your responses. You did actually make me feel better. I will follow your advice and send it back. Hopefully it will be fixed right.......I do really like everything about the gun, and you said it Jocko it still ran perfect even with the problems. Besides, I already bought a holster and 4 more mags with Pearce extensions.

Absolutely!
I've never had any of these issues. But, it is comforting to know, if/when I do, the gun will continue to function. The range IS the place to find this out.
Get with Kahr, they'll make it right.

Trust it...period. Its a good, and elegant design.

I'm sure Kahr can fix it for you by gringing some feed ramp off. Just put some loctite or nail polish on the threads of the guide rod. The sig 938 would not have the same problems because the followers are metal and the recoil spring is retained by the spring tunnel not by a screwed on nut.

forgot to mention it as it has been so so long ago. but my trusty PMJ9 broke a follower once and I never knew it was even broken. so I hav eno clue is it broke the day I dicided to take the mag down for cleaning or what. but that is what happened, I was giving the gun a complete cleaning and I thought I would take the mag aaprt and cleanit and out fell the follower in two parts. It had never failed on me one time either. I have over 32K through it now and never had that happen again.
sometiems it is easy to get pissed and vent but after one settle down somewhat and realizes that these fokking guns are parts that move, made by man, and sh!it just gonna happen. No maker is immune that I now of. My trusty G19 which is the most accurate gun I have ever shot had to go back once. I don't even think about it . being in the gun business myself for over 40 years and in the tire business for over 40 years. IT HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF THEM..:amflag:

now ur kahr is gonna get amuch closer keen eye looking at it, than at first. Be sure and document all that u found to, so they have a trailt o follow, but IMO ur two issues are easily fixable. We know the gun works,
this ain't the first nut that has come off of the dual spring set up. Those assemblys come to kahr fully assembled. They are supposed tob e locktited on that cap end, evidently the person who was supposed to be doin that to yours was playing with himself. Just sayin

Well, it's already been hit on the head that the thing just kept on goin like the energizer bunny... So might as well get it fixed under warranty, get it back, run it hard another 200 rounds, then a few boxes of carry ammo if if no other problems you got something that has proven it will do the job, even if it handicaps itself
Also... The 938 is a nice gun, but.... If you happen to be pocket carrying the kahr, you may end up not feeling as comfortable cocked and locked in a pocket, to much there for Murphy; both safety wise and potential to snag on the draw... Don't get me wrong the 938 is a nice one, just not something I find truly simplistic and user intuitive
Either way, kahr will do you right on warranty and the rest is what ever makes ya happiest

I've shot the Sig 938 and found it to be a real nice shootin pistol, well made and accurate. But I found it to be a tad small (for what I like) and short on round capacity. And the price tag is to much, IMO. Try and fix what ya have and dump as a last resort.

Hang in there buckshot...it happen sometimes.
I've never had an issue with my Kahr, but...
I've sent back a Para, Taurus, Ruger and Kel Tec.

Hang in there man. Let them fix it and You are really going to love that gun. Like Jocko said what you have experienced is rare for the CM9. Mine has been perfect for over 1000 rounds. Kahr should make it right.

Just be sure to talk to them about the feed ramp that probably is breaking the followers.

udid te right thing.. just sayin
FWIW, I've gotten two used Kahr's, shot unfired by me, but trusted the design enough to know they were good. They ARE good... forget any sayings of drama... we get all the drama queens here. Fact is, you're gonna see more complaining online than praising. This place, any place, is all like that. Let 'em get it up to snuff, and then shoot it like you stole it!!~

The fact is that anything made by man can and will fail at some point in time. That's why you carry a back-up gun. I back-up my CM9 with a P380.

I'm new to the forum and relatively new to Kahrs. I'm a huge fan of Sig and have the P229 SAS (Sig Anti Snag, melted version). I've owned many Sigs over the past two decades. When I was looking for a good pocket gun with a caliber more effective than the .380 I looked at the Sigs including P290 at the time and P938 since. At the time the P290 was going through issues and becoming the P290RS, an improvement in a gun they rushed to market and had immediate issues and complaints about.
As a result I looked elsewhere and ended up with a CM9 as well as a (non-pocket but small) CW9. Although I am a Sig guy, I simply don't think they've fully committed to the same quality control, ergos, etc. on the little guns as the big brothers they do so well. My issue with the P938 was two fold, #1 - I'm a left hander and they don't offer an ambi safety (not an issue if you're right handed). #2 - I wasn't crazy about the idea of a light single action trigger on a pocket gun, even with a thumb safety. I own a few 1911s and from my forum name, you probably can tell I love the platform. I like it in the original Gov't frame design and in the Commander frame. I'm not a fan of the little ones, including the Officer size ones. In my experience they are finicky and seldom reliable without spending a lots to have them tweaked. I worried about the same experience with an even smaller version but the reviews so far look pretty good.
I've been carrying for three decades. I've owned many guns for carry in that time. I'm very happy to date with both my Kahrs and the CM9 is my constant companion now in a Galco Pocket Protector. Even when it's not my primary carry gun, it becomes my back-up and rides in my front pocket always. I don't carry any gun I don't have 100% confidence in after running many rounds, both practice and various defense loads through. The little Sigs, now that the bugs are worked out of the P290RS, may be great guns as well. I love Sigs, but my Kahrs now have a permanent home. I hope after Kahr fixes your issues you're as happy with it as I am with mine.

My PMJ9 is a real POS. I have over 32K rounds through it and I broke a follower a few years back,. Question to forum guru's::: Should I peddle this gun??? I also have a wife who doesn't work good either. Please advise..
Plus I had to shoot my prize bull today, as he seen a knot hole in a fence post and has been hung up there for 4 days. It has not been a good week. Just sayin

If you shot the bull with the PM9 and it worked….keep it.
As far as the wife…it’s probably your fault..deal with it :yo:

if no one else said it, the Sig 938 isn't perfect either, lots of complaints can be found. Check it out for yourself. Same with Nano....even a friends Kimber solo spewed loose parts first time he cleaned it. My Ruger LC9 (sold) and Glock 26 Gen 4 (keeper) perfect, not one failure to go bang in about 350 each. Just bought a used CM9, likely not broken in. My theory is for given calber, the smaller the size and lower weight, the more picky eater of Ammo a gun will be and harder to shoot. There are limits or exceptions of course. For self defense, statistically it only needs to go bang 3 times at most.

With the way you shoot it more likely that you hit yer old lady. Word has it that you never hit the bull. I've seen that ugly PM9 of yours and if I was you I'd use it as a fishing sinker and hope to lose it in a snag. My best advice to you is to trade yer Harley in on a Honda. Have a nice day, Jocko. :)

I gave up on gun show deals. I enjoy hanging around a public shooting range and maybe finding a new handgun some inexperienced owner can't make function worth a darn, get all flustered with and I can buy cheaply.
Kahr should take back the ole pistol pmj9 from jocko just to get off the streets. Ole warn down ole pistol, you just never know when it will blow up .
