New to Kahr - PM9 shell casing question

Recently acquired a PM9. I took it apart, cleaned and lubed. I noticed that I can chamber a round racking the slide vs pressing the slide release, which is good, as I am a lefty. I noticed that after I chamber a round and eject it the shell casing is scratched - usually a vertical scratch. I don't see this with a glock or a sig. Is this peculiar to Kahr? I assume the tolerances are much tighter and the gun has never been shot, so this might be the reason. I don't think this is a problem, just seems very unusual. I would appreciate your feedback. That is not normal.
Cambering and ejecting a cartridge should not produce scrape like that.
Check the magazine feed lips and see if there is a burr on the edge that touches the cartridge.

Thanks! No burrs. I think the new Kahr mags lip edges a lot sharper than digs and glocks. As the cartridge slides out of the mag into the chamber, the combination of sharp edges and tight springs causes the scratch. I don't think this would affect anything. Once I take it to the range I'll report on reliability. Has anyone else experienced this? Everyone on the forum has been great!

The edges of the lips on those little Kahr mags can be quite sharp.
Get some 600 grit sandpaper, take your mags apart and slightly break that sharp edge on the mag lips.
The scratches on your casings should go away. ;)

You can mark the cartridge and see from which direction the scratch is coming. And feel all of the surfaces involved for burrs. That's a major scratch!

Called kahr and they said this is normal.

That's not normal. If that happened to my ammo every time I unloaded the pistol, I would get it fixed!

You can mark the cartridge and see from which direction the scratch is coming. And feel all of the surfaces involved for burrs. That's a major scratch!
As that scratch appears to start on the cartridge rim, my guess is that the slide's "pick up" rail (center rail that strips rounds from magazine) is causing it.
BarneyC, you might want to check that rail for a sharp edge/burr/damage/lack of bevel.

I just spoke with Jay from Kahr. He indicted that this is both normal and common. The claw of the extractor causes the scratch. I guess I'm ok with it, as long as it doesn't impair functionality.

Spoke... I think the picture is proof that this is beyond normal! The extractor claw grips the rim of the case as the case is grabbed by the lower part of the slide... the stripper... as the case slides up the breechface and is HELD from chambering through ejection... including firing. The stripper could be scratching the case if it's rough and unbeveled.

the scratch is caused by the sharp mag lips. I noticed there is an identical scratch on the opposite side of the casing.
