I recently purchased a Kahr PM9. I took apart cleaned and lubed. Racked the slide multiple times. I took the gun to the range today. I am very impressed with this little pistol - a real sweet shooter. I am a glock and sig guy, but let me tell you, pm9 is winning me over. I was so impressed with the accuracy of the pistol as well as the soft recoil and nice trigger!
It digested with equal ease both FMJs and JHPs of different assortments and weights. It performed flawlessly with the six round mag. With the seven round mag I noticed that the slide locked up prematurely after the first round. I will just get rid of the seven rounder and replace with a six rounder. I prefer flush mags anyaway.

One thing I noticed while I was cleaning the pistol after the trip to the range was a small dent in the recoil guide rod. I don't believe it impaired the functionality of the pistol, but I am curious if anyone else has seen this. Please see attached photos.

Barney,

Out of curiosity, I just stripped mine. The guide rod is not dented.

It probably was there when assembled at the factory. I wouldn't worry about it.

OP,

Here is a photo of a brand new PM9 recoil assembly that with only 389 rds. on it began to malfunction in my PM9.
I removed it at the range an replaced it with another brand new assembly and all was fine.
The recoil assemblies on the small PM9 pistols take a beating.
I would think that I could dress up the "scared" area and replace the spring but I haven't gotten around to it yet. ;)

Not quite sure what you mean.

This one is currently in my "used inventory" due to the fact that it failed after only 389 rds. It was band new from Kahr and this was the first range session with it in my PM9. This was back in 04/2012.

When this one failed while at the range, I had a new assembly in my range bag. I swapped them out and continued shooting.

As I said, I think I could dress the body up a bit and use it for the range, I would not trust it for EDC.

I haven't done anything with it since 4/22/2012 when I took it out of my PM9, put it in a plastic bag and marked its status as being N/G after 389 rds.
If I decide to dress up the body of the assembly, I see no reason that the original spring could not be used again, it only has 389 rds. on it.

Send the pics to Kahr. They will know if it needs a replacement.

I did. I got back an email from Jay indicating that this is normal. I asked them to replace my seven round mag with the six round flush mag. They will and I will send back the seven rounder. Thanks for all the feedback. Overall very pleased with my pm9.

Wow! The guide rod in the CM9 is totally different. I wonder why?
