Let me guess (top to bottom): 380, 9mm, 40, and 45?

Hard to tell in the pictures. I can do it from across the mall live, but have trouble in pictures unless it is really close up.

One of my first thoughts when I had the .380 and .45 apart one day, was to see if the .380 barrel would fit into the.45 barrel, but it didn't. I didn't try the chamber, though. That might fit.:D
I compared the PM9 and K9 before because someone wanted to know if one would fit the other gun. They are really different and you can appreciate the sturdiness of the K9.

You can however drop a round of 380 through the 45 barrel. I like to doe that when I go to the range and some one is touting their wonder 9 as the bestest thing since sliced bread. I then ask if they prefer to make lots of little holes or prefer to end a fight. They always reply that they want to end things quickly. I then ask to barrow a round of theirs, and drop it right down the barrel of my 45, and ask if they have any questions. You should see the jaws hit the ground.

I love the .45 and the big 230-grain bullets moving at 850 or so fps are enough for me. The smaller calibers can use the +P, especially with the short barrels.
It' amazing how .380 costs sometimes twice what .45 costs these days, considering .45s have two or three times the amount of metal and powder as the .380. I haven't seen any sub-$10 boxes of .45 acp lately, but I have seen Federal 9mm FMJ for $9.47 at Wally World. They had the Winchester White Box .45 FMJ 100-packs for $32.97. I had the clerk look on the shelf and if they had any .380 like that it would be about the same price as the .45.
The only .380 I have at the moment is 70 to 80 Buffalo Bore 90-gr JHP +P. The range does have "relatively" cheap .380 FMJ for range fodder, though. I think it was $20 for 50. I haven't tried that, yet, but I may have to when I get those stronger Keltec springs by Wolff. I hope they do the trick and stop the few FTFeed that I have have.

hmm so you think .45 is a better man stopper than 9mm? i would never count o na handgun round as a man stoppper whether its 9mm .357 or .45.
I rather carry a high capacity 9mm over a standard .45..what if theres more than one shooter? what if you miss? what if you hit him in the chest and he is still coming?

It's just the size issue, and having been in fire fights I never recall having wished for a smaller weapon or less rounds. The way you talk it's as though the 45 is a single shot. I also carry two reloads, again BTDT. Personally I want a way to inject about 10+ lbs. of plastic explosive into them at long range. But you dance with who brung ya.

I'm really impressed with how much longer the lug area is on the K9 compared to the PM9. Wow, that is built like a tank and then some.
Willowofwisp,
Here is the deal..... even with FMJ one or in a remote chance two shots center of mass with the 45 ACP pretty much ends the confrontation and the perp will most likely be on their back 75-78% of the time. Now throw in the newer hi tech rounds that ups the anti to around 90% plus with one round, end of story.
The 45 ACP won its reputation with hard ball as a fight stopper not because of velocity or expansion, but by bullet diameter and shear mass of the bullet, which tends to almost completely transfer all of its energy to a man size target with boring regularity unlike the speedier 380's & 9mm rounds.
You can't change the laws of physics......

I think it is time to put a Dremel to those babies. I just did mine and it came out awesome. Give it a shot Wynn and watch those babies shine.

They already shine more than mine...for now. And thank you for the physics refresher. I like my 45's for a reason.

My argument was that the standard glock 19 holds 15+1 rounds while the similarly sized glock 30 or m&p compact only hold 8 or 10 rounds. I carry a reload too but i rather have to not reload if at all possible.
I understand the history of the .45 and im not saying i am against a .45...i love my les baer 1911 and its one of my main competition guns...i just prefer a 9mm over a .45 for carry

This balls been kicked to Denmark an back about a million times. The shot placement versus knock down on and on and on. I find the best solution is to stick with whatever you have confidence in. If it works for you it works for me. I certainly dont knock a person with a 9 and I even try to keep a straight face when I here 380. Both are undoubtedly gonna ruin your day if your shot with one. Both will undoubtedly leave a mark. In self defense I know we have to plan to kill, what I really want to do is just stop the person, if that's cause hes dead thats ok, but if I knock him down long enough to get away I'm ok with that too. Like throwing pebbles or bricks, maybe neither will kill you but that brick is probably gonna knock you down. Personally I'll stick with my 45. I remember that I'm only shooting to stop someone from hurting me or mine and then I'm headed out of dodge city. I have no plan to take on the whole gang or rest of the family members. The design and purpose of the 45 is sound, it works for me, I have confidence in the round and the guns I carry it in. Works for me.
Wyn, break out the DLT and polish those barrels shiney and pretty. I used to tell people I liked the 45 cause I could crawl in the barrel and get out of the rain. I fear I've bulked to the point where that is no longer possible. May have to look at a 50AE.

I was taking a shine to the 500 mag personally, though I fear my posterior is a might large for that. But I'll stick with my 45's and my 40 and my 357.

I also believe that the weapon you carry is better than the one left at home. If 9mm trips your trigger, then by all means... Personally, getting hit with ANYTHING sucks.

But.... A 45 is BIGGER than even a 10mm !!!!! WOW what a caliber!!!!! snicker....
I recently saw where some guy you might think carries a big gun carries a .25. Of course he probably has bodyguards with somewhat larger stuff.
In my quest for a mag for the 1911 45 I was asked by 1911Tuner if I was expecting trouble. This was in regard to my 2 10rd spares. He said he rarely carries a spare and since that's what Jocko says, I ordered 7rd mags.
