I noticed what appears to be a crack in the surface of my PM9 frame (see photo). Would like opinions!!!! Hopefully just a scratch??

Looks like a scratch from the picture. You should be able to put pressure on it and flex it if it's cracked. Should also be visible from inside if you take the slide off. Kind of a strange place for a scratch.
Something new, just turned up? Any activity, like a range session, or anything?

Yes, a strange place for a scratch. Nothing visible on the inside, but it could be the "beginning" of a crack, as this is the weakest point of the frame as it has nothing inside to support it. So, it can be flexed. Has me concerned. never noticed it before, but I wasn't looking. I sent a photo to Ian tonight.

I think the photo in inconclusive. I would take Bawanna's advise and put pressure from the inside of the frame to see if it's a crack or a scratch.

It looks like a scratch, could you have set it down something perhaps? If it flexes it may be a crack, but it may not necessarily go all the way through. If you can look at it under magnification you should be able to tell better, plus if you flex and it is a crack, then it could get worse. I would look at closely under magnification and see if it looks smooth or rough on the inside of it. Smooth=most likely scratch, rough=most likely crack. While that is an unsupported area, there really isn't that much stress there, having said that the polymer formula could have been off a hair when they mixed it. My two cents, spend it wisely.

How can IAN know what to do when you have it in your hands and u do not know if it is a crack or a scratch. ??? Test it out before panicking. If it isn;'t showing on the inside, more than likely it is a scratch, but if it is starting to show a crack there, then flex it and it should go allthrogh to the inside, then you have a crack. I have never seen a cracked kahr , probably has happened but this wouldbe the first photo of one that I have sieen. Let us know but do your own testing. A stragne place for a scratch indeed.

Most likely a scratch, but stranger things have happened. And if magnification is not available (jewelers loupe) then the flex method works too.

Thanks Guys. The reason I sent a pic to Ian is that often, when frames crack they crack in the same place (ala the Beretta Tomcat). So, I thought he may have seen this before.
Jocko: No panic, just too much punctuation in my message :)
In any case they are sending me an RA for return, so I'll let the "experts" determine the situation.

Please keep us posted, us folks with the simpler minds really want to know the outcome. I think we should start a pool or something. I still think it's a scratch but from the book it's just a SWAG. Hope you get it back soon with a clean bill of health.

I took the PM9 to my gunsmith today, before sending it to Kahr. He checked it, after takedown, closely and said, "just a light scratch." He was quite positive. That was good news, and I trust his opinion.

Good News! Glad it wasn't something more serious. From now on cover it in bubble wrap and everything should be good to go.

Well, I followed your advice, and now I can't get my finger on the trigger :(
:) actually KAHR PM frames are made from the same material as GUMMI BEARS. The next time you get a scratch like that, just rub a gummi bear over it. It will disappear. :D
P.S. RED GUMMI BEARS work best for some reason.
Do I rub the Gummi Bears on "before" or "after" I wrap it in bubble wrap? I'm out of red Gummi Bears (I used them all on my Glock). Will yellow work?

The gummy bears are back...Well I will have to research that.

Didn't Wyn have a special deal on a self contained, tubular, inexpensive, DLC look-a-like product a short time ago. Maybe it could be used to do some cosmetic touch up on that scratch.

Do I have to tell you everything? Adjust accordingly and use plenty of duct tape.
