View Full Version : Need help finding down the pants holster for Kahr CM9

I carry a Kahr CM9. During the winter months my front pocket in a sticky holster has served very well. Doesn't really show since I wear jeans which have plenty of give. Either that or I put it in my coat pocket.
So far in the summer months I have carried in my cargo shorts front pocket but the pockets are just too deep and with the shorts being so loose it kinda slaps my thigh when I walk.
I tried a smartcarry but it just adds too much bulk for my needs. Its a bit overkill for the Kahr but works well for my larger pistols.
What I am looking for is a holster which I can clip to my waistline and drops enough to be down the pants. I'm picturing a holster with about 2 inches of drop from the clip to the top of the holster. This way it isn't "on" or "in" my waist - which I find uncomfortable - but drops just far enough below the beltline to not force me wear a waist size larger. Also wouldn't need to worry about my shirttail creeping up and showing off. Ideally I tend to like front of the pants appendix style arrangements.
I'm thinking I may just have to order a pocket holster and rig it with a strip of leather and connect that to a waist clip. But first I wanted to get some guidance from the forum.
Does anyone know if there is a product as I have described? Searched till I'm blind.

JFootin, an old-timer on here would tell you to try out a Stays Put for $14.95. It's actually a pocket carry holster, but he would tell you it works great as an AIWB. I took his advice and will tell you the same thing. You could then either add a nylon loop like I did (see below) which I loop over & put my belt through ... or use the clips that you're thinking about.

I have seen a couple of "deep concealment" holsters like you are talking about, but they didn't interest me, so I didn't bookmark them. I'll have a look around and see what I find.

Search - Hide-it holster, also Pager pal, or Cell pal holster.

Close....real close. One size fits all though. All they demonstrate with is a full size long barrel. Looks like the CM9 would get lost in that thing. They really should consider different sizes.
I just ordered a stays put and a Galco hook. I'm going to experiment with these and see if I can come up with a solution.

I have posted many times about the quality and comfort of Northstar Holsters, a local guy here in Minnesota, I have many of his holsters and swear by them. Bruce does this as a hobby/side job and they are all first class. I have only used his I.W.B tuckable model and love them. You tuck shirt in over gun and it dissapears completely. I have had Bruce add a sweat guard to most giving you protection from grips digging into skin. I normally do not wear tee-shirt and these work great.

Just on the off chance anyone cares what I think I'm not fond of the concept of a carry system that would limit access to a gun carried in the manner you describe. The entire gun being below the belt line anywhere except in front where I guess you could undo your pants or take it out the zipper does not appeal to me at all.
There are many many standard IWB rigs, the Fist Ultra Thin along with others comes to mind that take up very little space under the belt, no more than the gun itself.
The most important thing is when you need that gun (pray never) your going to need it badly and quickly. I'd rather dress to carry the gun properly than try to fish it out of it's hiding place when the clock is ticking.
Even with an efficient quickly accessed holster, when the hair on the back of your neck says Danger Will Robinson the gun should be in hand, you can always put it back if you don't need it.

All true....except when you live in COMMIE LAND and if anyone even see's hint of gun they will be freaking out. I don't mind the little extra time needed, remember you will have element of surprise because no one will know that you are carrying and won't be watching you.

For the record your holster should work perfectly for my requirements Jeepster, I was referring to the whole gun below the belt where you can't really touch any part of it.
Maybe in commie land that is a higher priority. Myself I like enough gun sticking out that I can get a full grip without pulling it out a little bit first.
I was born a 100 years to late, a spring loaded tie down rig would be my first choice, have the gun meet me half way at the draw.

Maybe it just me but I've reached the age where I really don't give a damn what the rest of the world thinks. I carry in a manner that gives me the quickest access to my gun in an emergency. PJ holster AWIB. Screw the libs and pinkos.

Bawanna, isn't it true that your policy is to search all females for a "down the pants holster"?

Well it wasn't before but it sounds like it has definite merits. So it is now, I'm writing it into the policy as we speak.

I've started using the Covert Carrier combo grip/clip when I want to go holsterless. All it takes is a slight blousing of my shirt to conceal perfectly.

TactiPac is sized to the size of the firearm and in theory is superior to the smart carry. I have one on order, so it will be a while before I can critique it A belly band might work for some people. The Pager- Pal types take two hands and three separate hand movements to draw.

I have a cell-pal
The do as they say BUT there are 2 things that I would think about.
#1 your gun is less accessible
#2 When standing your gun does not lay flat against your thigh as they show in their video.
BUT remember thats a big/fat guy.
I can't wear my pants loose to gap the waistband, grab the gun.
The real advantage is that you and your gun will be together vs "Oh no, my gun is in my glove box"
Don't believe "the quick draw MacGraw" stuff, Babalouie!

If you're still looking check out the Legacy. http://pantherconcealment.com/iwb-holsters.html (http://pantherconcealment.com/iwb-holsters.html)
I have a standard iwb and had a owb that went with a gun I sold. Both are great holsters.

With a two inch drop to the top of the holster that might get uncomfortable unless it's flexible.
Have you looked at Thunderwear or Smartcarry? That would get the gun down below the belt.
A video comparing them is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjhiheFmVO0

I want to share with you the outfit Kusiak Leather. I just had made for me a Kahr PM IWB EXTRaMag Holster and this is great...have been using one for my LCP for about 2 years now and like the depth of the holster as well as the ability to pack an extra mag. This is a nice set up and will be CCW rig in just a few hundred more pm9 rounds I hope. Great price and great CCW item.

Also like PJ holsters very much. Have one for my Shield and it is the best iwb kydex going. Used if now for about a year...great guy and great rig.

As if you don't already have enough reccomendations I am going to throw another one out there...... I have a crossbreed holster and absolutely love it ! You can adjust the can't and depth that the pistol sits at to meet your expectations. I have also found that I never have to fiddle with the gun and or holster. Once you put it on for the day it is there to stay. The only bad thing is it is so comortable you will forget it is on even on a ten hour car ride. I liked it enough I picked up a Galco king tuck for my 23 and while I like the galco the crossbreed is definitely better conforming and more comfortable.
