Went to the LGS pick up some ammo and found they had a SR1911 in the case. Considering it was the first time I had seen one available I just had to pick it up and fondle it. Gotta say I was impressed with the trigger, the machining tolerances and the upgraded beavertail. Reluctantly I put it down and started walking out to the car where I promptly turned back around went back in and put it on layaway!! I just couldn't leave it sitting there in the gun case especially since it was the only one they had!

I called my wife on the way home and told her I put a 1911 on layaway and her response was happy anniversary. I figured that was a stamp of approval on buying it so upon getting off work I promptly went back and picked it up :D!

I have run about 150 rounds through it and have to say I LOVE IT! Doing double and triple taps at 40 foot with all three bullet holes touching. This thing shoots sweet and is very accurate in my opinion. The weight of the gun help me be back on target quicker than anything other pistol I own.

that is one nice gun. I prefer the matte stainless, just like that.

congrats on your "happy anniversary" (both gun and wife)

I've never owned a 1911.
Although I shoot no other auto better.
Eventually I'm going to have to scratch that itch - LOL!

I've read good things about these Ruger 1911s.
Enjoy your new weapon.

I'm very pleased with my Ruger too. Great shooter and well put together.

They have a commander version out now that would make a nice running mate.

Starting to see them from time to time now too so maybe they are finally catching up.

I'm happy for you, nice move. I think the anniversary thing might be a trick though, use extreme caution.

That is one fine looking pistol. It's nice to hear people are finally finding the guns they want. I finally found a glock 36 that I'd been looking for for months. Is the panic weapon buying letting up? I hope so.

If I ever see one of those, I think I'll snatch it up as well. Rugerenvy is a killer.

That could very well be my next pistol. That is sweet. Being I'm not adding anymore pistols to my collection I just need to figure out which one has to go to make room for it. Congrats

Congrats.
My Husband has had one for almost a year and he really likes it, and had never had a malfunction.
Enjoy

There's a husband malfunction joke begging to be told after that, but I'll skip it....

Nice!
I got to test a bunch of 1911s and the Ruger was my favorite. Even next to the Springfield operator.

Always a 1911 fan, partially due to my Dad's WWll G.I. pistol and the folk-lure & mystique surrounding the conception and devastating power of J.M. Brownings creation. My brother actually took our Dad's 1911 to his 7th grade science class (with teachers permission) to demonstrate the mechanics of a semi-auto. This occurred in the early 1960's No bullets involved! of course. Saw the Ruger at a gun show and as advertised= everything you need, nothing you don't & made in USA. I have a Colt Officers which makes everybody, regardless of hand size, smile when they pick it up - great balance and ergonomics but just had to have a full size. Colts had been too expensive. Agreement was made to hold for 10 minutes while I went to the car to grab my money, good thing, because no sooner than I had left, it another customer who had seen it earlier came back to buy it. Close call. Have fondled her often, purchased a nice carved leather holster but waiting for ammo crisis to come to an end before firing.

absolute great acquisition. I am very new to the true 1911 lust ... but I get it!

The Ruger was on my short list until I found a Sig Carry Stainless. I'm sure some day I will end up with one like yours.

(One? ..... did I just say One?)

I have enjoyed mine since last fall. Haven't shot the front sight off yet, LOL
(Apparently, this is a growing problem as more reports/pics are coming in on a daily basis - what's up Novak???))

BTW, get with Bawanna about some custom grips for that bad boy. He does a phenomenal job.

I have now put about 500 rounds through it without any issues..... well I should be honest I have an issue with my wallet being a lot lighter shooting all the .45 ammo that I have been shooting lol. I really need to get with Bawanna to get some new grips! I have been looking at different ones already. Anyone know if bawanna has a site to sell grips?

re-loading would cut your .45 ammo costs by at least 50%, or more depending on the components you choose. For less than $200, you can put together a set of re-loading tools that can more than adequately keep you supplied with range fodder as a "low volume shooter". Consider that, as of now, you have put 10 boxes of ammo through the tube, and could save at least $10 a box by re-loading, that's already $100 you could put towards your re-loading toolkit investment. If you shoot on average 2 boxes per week, year around, that could be saving as much as $1k per year .... just on the .45 acp.

just something to consider:)

Ok you have peaked my interest! Explain to me how I can get the stuff to reload for around $200? Most of the reloaders I have looked at are more than $200 before you even buy the dies.

the Lee Hand Press "kit" comes with the Ram Prime, one Quick Lock Bushing (you'll want to get a couple of "2 packs" of these to have one for each die), a powder funnel, case lube ..... around $40 for a "hand held" single stage press. Then a 4-die set for .45 acp (resize/deprime, expander, seater, and Lee Factory Crimp Die) for around $40. So, for under $100 you can have a single stage press and a set of dies that goes anywhere, works anywhere, and will do 90% of what any bench mounted press will do. To this you'll need to add a chamfer/deburr tool (under $10), a set of Lee "dippers" to get you "close", around $15 (actually a dipper and shell holder comes with every set of Lee dies), and a scale if you really want to fine tune your loads better than the (very conservative) approximate charges recommended for the dippers. I have both the Lee Safety Scale (balance beam type) and a PACT digital scale. I can't read the balance beam scale very easily, and it's too slow to use for each charge, so I gave it to my son. I do weigh each charge on the PACT digital scale .... fast and very efficient. I use a Lee dipper that gets as close to my desired charge weight as possible to make a drop into the scale pan, then pick up another small amount and tap/trickle powder until I hit my desired weight without going more than .1 gr over. A functional digital scale can be had for $50-60 to get you started.

There are other tools that are very handy, if not completely necessary at some point .... kinetic bullet puller hammer, loading tray, micrometer, etc Actually, when I started, I used nothing but the dippers and the Lee conversion charts for powder/dipper/desired load, and only used my inexpensive Lee Safety Scale to check the dipper load against the chart, for which the actual scale weight was always 10% or so below the Lee chart. That was fine with me as long as it was more in the safe zone, and it ended up being totally functional. I loaded many hundreds of rounds with nothing but the dippers before getting the PACT scale to actually refine my magnum loads. Actually, I did get a micrometer before the PACT scale, but since I was mainly loading revolver ammunition it wasn't a major issue since I was seating to the crimp groove anyway. I did load a bit of 9mm early on which made the micrometer a necessary tool, and now I do use it for my .45 acp and .30-30 Win chores.

These are all "real tools". The Hand Press uses standard dies of which I use 3 sets of Lee Dies (.38/.357 mag, .44 mag and .45 acp) and one set of RCBS dies (.30-30 Win). If you had a proper bench and space that could be completely dedicated to a reloading station, you could get a serviceable bench mounted single stage press adequate for pistol brass for about the same as the Hand Press kit.

Believe me, it can be done. I'm still using the Hand Press and have loaded thousands of trouble free rounds on it. I don't have the proper space that I want to set up a full blown reloading station, so I keep my entire set of "tools" in a small box in my office, and the components separated by caliber on other small boxes. Takes my 5 minutes to have everything out on one of my drawing layout tables and shortly thereafter I'm either resizing/depriming a batch of brass, seating primers on a batch, or dropping powder and seating bullets.

edit to add: again, everything I mentioned above is standard equipment most all reloaders will use .... the Hand Press is the only variable, and many loaders keep a hand press or two around just for depriming or other duties

Just tell me what you want them to look like and I'll whittle. I'm out of town till next week but after that I'm in.

I just got a few pieces of stabilized wood. When I get home I can point ya to some pics or look at the emporium.

Melissa built me a web site, its in my sig line. Whatever it takes. I have a Ruger so no problem fitting.

Ran another 150 rounds through the SR1911 yesterday and it was flawless! I can't say enough great things about this gun and definitely don't regret the purchase. I understand there are way better shots out there than me but yesterday I was able to shoot a 14" round steel plate at 50 yards about 6-7 out of 8 shots and it was really sweet to here that steel ring. I have a hard time doing that with many of my other guns so for me it's a huge step.

why does every 45 owner get aposition ahead of ol jocko who has had on order from ur woodshop for over 3years some custom cherry wood Harley grips??? Is it because I am white?? Is it because I don't own one of those slow ass 45's that every tom d!ck and pelosie talk about.? Is it because I once owned a kel tek and now I am not worthy of ur services. Esmerelda said she would make me a set if u can't come through. She is a hottie u know and I do love her pinto horses ALOT.:amflag:

Did you move or something?

Me and wife just caught 12 trout 14" and up in about 45 minutes. Life is good.
