Hey Folks,

Bear with me, a bit of intro before I get to the point...

I've put 1000+ rounds through my PM9 and it still shoots wonderfully. It's my EDC an I love it.

However, with ammo prices increasing along with the shortage, I'm at the point now where I'd like to get a 22cal pistol of some kind to use as my primary range gun so that I can practice a bit more often without breaking the bank as much.

My Question: Any recommendations for 22 pistol that is comparable in size, weight and trigger-action to the PM9? I know I won't be able to get something exact but I figure the closer the better.

I realize there may be some out there who think this is a bad idea but please just humor me! :)

Thanks and best regards...

Welcome to the forum and glad to hear that you have a PM9 that runs good for you.

I have thought about the same thing in the past but never found the gun. I think the Ruger SR22 is a small "double action" semi auto that may have a similar trigger but for the price you can buy a lot of 9mm. Plus who can find .22 ammo these days?

My range is my back yard. Use a Gamo P23 pellet gun. Weight and trigger pull almost exact as my CM9. It is remarkable how much my shooting has improved with the practice. Less than 2 cents per shot. Not very macho but with the scarcity and price of ammo, it sure has worked. I have a 22 but ammo is harder to find than 9MM.

Thanks for the insight and suggestions yqtszhj and deadeye. I guess I didn't realize 22 ammo was harder to find that 9mm!

I'm definitely going to look into that P23 pellet gun... nice idea!

Thanks again!

.22 revolvers fired double action haver trigger pulls similar enough to Kahrs, as well as to Sig 250's and the DA pull on DA/SA Sigs and Maks. I practice with a couple of vintage Taurus 9-round revolvers with adjustable (thus visible) sights. I use a Ruger .22/45 to practice for 1911's and the excellent Advantage Arms conversion kit for Glocks.

The 22/45 Lite is fun and I have the Tactical Solutions TSG-22 conversion for my Glock 19's and 23C. The .22 conversion is great and easy to shoot. Switching back to centerfire takes getting used to, though!

.22's are just barely cheaper than centerfire ammo now... IF you can find any! You have to really search and jump on deals online. Cabela's and a few others are no good deal because they limit the amount to maybe just ONE box of 50 rounds... plus shipping... very expensive that way.

Use some helpful aids in shopping:

and for Walmart:

When things settle down .22 will be cheaper. Kahr should consider making a .22LR using the P/CW380 frame. With some engineering they could probably make a swappable barrel and mag to convert the P/CW380 to .22 caliber.

Closest thing to a Kahr double action trigger I can think of is a Ruger LCR in .22lr. By all reviews, the stock trigger in the LCR is probably a good bit less than a stock S&W. Gun is a ton cheaper than a stock S&W. Grip is gonna be significantly different...but if you are looking for a trainer w/ similar capacity, trigger, etc...take a look at the LCR.
