Picked up a new CM9 last week & finally had a chance to hit the range. I did follow the "prepping a new Kahr" instructions & also fully loaded the mag & let it sit overnight (I do this with any new magazine). 148-rounds fired & no issues.

I shot ~50 each of some 115gr. FMJ (RWS? I think), Remington HTP 115gr. +P HP's, and my own reloads (125gr. LRN over a decent charge of HP-38/ W231). The pistol was both accurate & pretty easy to shoot well. I'll need another trip to fully acclimate to the trigger, but so far so good.

I'm glad I stuck with the decision to go 9mm vs. .380. I've owned at least a few of the latter & none has made it past 6-months in my care. To be fair, they've all been blowback guns & I never developed a fondness for any of them. Also, the 9 is, by all accounts, a far better defensive choice.

Matter of fact the most unpleasant pistol I've ever fired was a Polish Radom P64 in 9x18. Likely a combination of grip design & blowback operation - that thing was accurate but nasty. And I typically enjoy some thump and boom with both handguns & rifles.

I suppose a Colt Mustang or Govt. .380 could make the long-term keeper list, but I was shopping for a 9mm that I could (and would) actually use for front pocket carry. Choices were narrowed to the Kahr, Nano, and LC9. The Kahr won on weight & feel in the mitt. The Nano was noticeably heavier and the Ruger's grip feel was not good (to me). The CM9 probably has the best trigger, but I could have lived with any of them.

I ordered a couple additional mag's & on the advice of a forum member, a pocket holster. I'm looking forward to adding the Kahr to the rotation. We have two small kids so finding time for any "extraneous" activity is tough, but I'll keep the thread updated with round count & performance.

One question (for the moment): how often should the recoil assembly be replaced? Typical for small 1911 pattern pistols (3.5" or shorter) is usually 500 rounds. I assume it's the same here? I plan to order a couple extra assembly's from Kahr unless someone else has a better price.

Thanks...Funnel

Personally I would shoot the gun until it stops functioning reliably. Keep the new factory spring in the gun for carry, and use the other one for range work.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II 3" with a couple of thousand rounds through it with no change to the recoil spring assembly and it functions perfectly. These things last a lot longer than you think.

I've seen recommendations for replacement at 1,500 to 2,000 rounds. As long as it functions and shoots well, I wouldn't worry. Replacements are cheaper at Wolff Gun Springs, who makes Kahr's springs, anyhow: http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?page=items&cID=1&mID=29

Welcome to the forum. I agree with your assessments of other guns. I've had or still have most of what you mentioned on your alternative list and like you the CM9 fits the need.
