View Full Version : P380 magazine release catch -- 90% failure to release mags

On my P380 pistol, pressing the magazine release catch to eject the magazine fails to result in ejection about 90% of the time. Is there a known mag catch problem that would disallow mags to eject, or some other known issue related to these?

I am aware many people are having troubles with magazines dropping on them. On mine, I'm having a problem with failure to eject.

If I were to guess how it feels as I depress the button, it's almost as though the catch doesn't quite have enough throw to remove the engagement mechanism out of the way. The button depresses fine, and it doesn't seem to be too hard, too soft, gritty or "wrong" in any noticeable way. It's similar to a couple other P380's that I have recently handled, as well as similar to a PM9 that I had a couple years ago.

Mine is similiar. Was hoping it would get better. Seems I really have to push directly on it and all the way home, unlike other manufacturers.

SPUD DAD. call kahr and they will send you a new mag catch. a real no brainer to install to. You evidentely got one out of spec, they should release, They won't all fall free, mine do not and I don't really care about that either, but they must release for sure.

Kahr will send u a new release. Ask for IAN at kahr..

I have a PM9 with about 300 rounds through it and while I have no problem with release of the mag, it does not, as you say, fall free. I always have to remove it with my left hand. I don't necessarily have a problem with that so long as it is normal. I would prefer that it eject freely but it is not a big deal for me.

I'm carrying mine... as usual while at home... and pushing the mag release drops the mag into my hand. This is normal. My mag has six rounds in it and that helps. I don't have to pull the mag out.

After repeated use the mags will cause a shiny spot on the mag catch. Since yours is engaging too much of the mag just remove the catch and grind off some of the shiny portion of the catch. Mine did to same thing when new so I removed a bit at a time until the mags would drop free. You do not need to remove much so go slowly and try it in the gun until you get the right amount removed. When new my mags would not release unless I mashed the release button flat with the frame with the boney part of my thumb. Now they drop free with a firm push of the button.
