So first time poster, and hopeful but not-yet first time owner.

Unfortunately I live in the People's Republic of Maryland and so cannot legally carry in my own state. However I recently discovered that the kind people of the great State of Florida allow non-residents to obtain a Florida Concealed Carry Permit. While this still won't help me in MD, it will allow me to carry in currently 31 states (including Florida and North Carolina where we travel frequently due to family).

So my FL CCP application is in the mail and I turned my attention to which concealed carry weapon should I buy? I currently own two Beretta 92 Fs (and love them) but of course they are way too big. And after much research, I finally decided that a new Kahr CW9 is the weapon for me.

So herein lies my problem. I can't find any! I've tried countless gun shops in MD and no one has any in stock. No one will even order them from the distributors as they say their inventories show as zero as well. I got some quotes which is nice (ranging from $485 to $575) but no one had anything to sell me.

I finally found one in PA at a great gun shop called Freedom Armory and at a great price. (I had to do that as I was not going to make a final decision without seeing & handling a CW9 first-hand.) Alas with shipping & transfer fees to a MD FFL, it becomes cost prohibitive. Plus, most gun shops here told me they would not do a transfer of a gun that they could sell. Except ... they can't sell it to me because they have no stock!

So what's up with that? I'd love to become a proud new Kahr CW9 owner & join you all here, but I'm having a dickens of a time trying to find one to buy. Is this a common problem? How were your experiences in tracking down your own gun? Is it just me? (Go ahead. Tell me it's just me. I can take it... :-)

A quick check at Bud's shows they are out of stock on CW9's. They do have CW40's for 412 shipped. I didn't check gunbroker. Either place would have to ship to an FFl in your state. Suspect your gonna have to internet shop if your local dealers don't want to get you one.

Well... I know that On Target Guns and Gunsmithing in Kalamazoo, Michigan has two or three CW9's in-stock, I was just in there yesterday and saw those and a couple PM9's.

On Target does sell on Gunbroker so they do ship firearms. You could try calling them up and seeing about having them ship one to your FFL.

Check GunsAmerica.com

I believe they had some listed for $389. With shipping and transfer fees it should still end up a decent price.

The CW9 is an excellent choice for a CCW
Keep an eyeball on our "for sale" forum....they seem to pop up regularly(there's one at the top now)
Kahr Firearms for Sale - KahrTalk Forums (http://kahrtalk.com/kahr-firearms-sale/)

aray, you could always try to pester me for mine....who knows, the way I go through guns

The CW9 is an excellent choice. Last summer there was a note on the Kahr website saying demand was so high they were running backorders. Try on your next trip to NC. About $425 plus tax.

Well good for them. They have a unique, innovative product and I'm glad it's paying off for them.

The CW9 is a great weapon to own. I believe you have made a wise choice. Now that you have handled one it is even harder to not have it I assume. There have been many good suggestions, check the online spots and look at this site Find An FFL - FFL Dealer Locator (http://www.auctionarms.com/help/fflnetwork.cfm) it will give you options of FFFL holders in your area. You may have more choices then you know. It even lists their charges..

Good luck

I got my pm45 through Davidsons. After I decided on this one I went to the GS I deal the most with. He checked a couple of his usual suppliers, none to be had. He then called Davidsons. I had it in my hand two days later. Got lucky!

Wow. Several excellent replies in just one day. Thanks. I don't have a solution in hand yet but there are several very good suggestions in here so far that I intend to investigate further.

This forum is going to be fun. I can't wait until I get my CW9, then the real fun begins!

Just to add to IYG's suggestion of gunsamerica.com as a source.

You can search for an FFL on the gunsamerica.com site by Zip Code and find dealers in your area willing to do the transfer at a reasonable price.

Most guns I have bought at a "gunshop" have had a paper to sign that states that the shop in not responsable for any warrantee.

There is a gun shop here called The Bullet Trap that has some in stock, but again with FFL fees and the like it would get a wee bit high.

I'd love to become a proud new Kahr CW9 owner & join you all here, but I'm having a dickens of a time trying to find one to buy. :-) Actually, you said you couldn't or wouldn't afford shipping and transfer. When it becomes a seller's market, there is no sin in paying top dollar for something. We don't have to wait for that "good deal", because it ain't gonna happen. I get that currently on ammo. I can't buy it for the price I would like, and if I want to shoot, I can't wait indefinitely for some deal to come along. I feel your pain, but it sounds like you need to carry that Beretta until more funds are available.

There is a used CW in the case at the Allen Arms range store in Greenville, SC. I don't recall if it was 9 or 40. I think the price was $350. If interested, I could check for you.

A gun that carries well and shoots exceptionally well is the FNP40, also available as FNP9. I had a 40 I should have kept but was stuck on the look of steel and wood grips at the time, smitten with the heavier T9.

The Herstal has a black poly frame. The grip is fatter, not single stack, but the barrel is only a fraction longer than the CW. It is in that price range.
