This is exactly what the terrorists wanted. Fear.

Fear that makes an entire nation spend billions of dollars (we don't have) on screening personnel and equipment. TSA

Fear that causes a nation to be extra cautious not to "profile" the enemy so it screens old ladies and decorated war veterans.

Fear that turns a world upside down and makes people believe the government is doing them a favor when invading their privacy by saying the ends justify the means. NSA

People need to wake up and stop being so fearful. It is almost impossible to exercise common sense when your mind is clouded with FEAR.

On and on and on.

That last statement goes for gun control too. People are afraid of "scary" looking guns and their common sense knob gets turned off. Same with small pocket knives on planes. Argh! I'm just getting worked up now. I better stop while I'm behind. :(

Fuuk'n A right. The terrorists hate our way of life and they are making us change it by using fear. We declare martial law, we remove our rights in the name of protection, and on and on.

I don't think that it was asking a lot to have the Marine to remove his jacket. I also don't think that his friend interfering with the security check was called for. He could have assisted the Marine in removing his jacket. We all have our jobs to do.

Let me pre-apologize for posting an article from The Huffington Post, but I think it makes a point about the "militarization" of the police: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/10/obama-police-militarization_n_3566478.html

The police officers I know are very professional and I have the utmost respect for them, but something not quite right has been going on for a while.

You may, or may not, agree.

I'll take my chances. Let him go through without all the bs. He earned his don't fuuk with me card. If this was Israel or another country where service is mandatory, I might have a different view on this matter.

I work with many former amd current military members, former and current Special Forces, SEALS etc. Several are Marines and one has earned multiple Silver Stars, and has more awards than the complainer. Mark feels the Marine needs to, "Quit bitching and man up to the realities of todays terroristic envorionment and aviation security."

For those goobers that complain about security here in the states you are woefully ignorant of security of say El All at Tel Aviv Airport. Been there done that.

Don't forget this administration considers all returning combat veterans to be potential terrorists, just like 80 year old grandmothers and children in wheelchairs.

so........We shouldn't complain about the cost of gas too because it is still less than what they pay in Europe?

Complain in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up the fastest. You can complain all that you want. Complaining never accomplished a damn thing.

Job? Bullshit! How about RESPECT?

Respect is a two way street. The marine should have respected the orders of the TSA agent. If we had better screening on 9/11 two thousand people might not have died.

I'm willing to bet that the second thing that marine did when he got home was take off his coat.

I'll have to check the drone infared video playback to confirm but until I receive confirmation I wouldn't wager against you.
I'll try to find out exactly just what the first thing was too while I'm looking.

Muggsy, I take it from your posts that you are in LE. When you take the common sense and discretion out of law enforcement; you become the TSA. If you are a LEO; tell me that it doesn't frost your ass, if you are in full uniform, and the TSA does the mindless robot routine on you.

That Marine paid his his dues, like, I assume you paid yours. To compare that Marine to that murdering Muslim nut case (not a combat veteran) really pisses me off!

And they knew he was who he said he was how? He didn't have a CAC, he was ret. If you were going to try to do damage, what ploy would you use?

TSA was doing their job well. Get over it.

There are a lot of posers out there for sure. My spidy senses tell me that he is the real deal but not my call, it's theirs.

I agree that a little respect would have gone a long way, I also agree they have to do their job and be thorough about it.

I'm not gonna lose any more sleep on it.

Wow, I agreed with both sides, I could be a politician.

I've never been in law enforcement, but I have just as much respect for what they do as for those who serve in the military. Three of my childhood friends went on to be police officers. We buried one of them. My best friend was a tank commander in Vietnam. He lost a leg and eye to an RPG. He received a Silver Star, Bronze Star, a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for his bravery and wounds. He never asked for special treatment from anyone because of his disability. The TSA agent made a simple request. He was just doing his job. We all have our jobs to do. The marines friend could have helped him with his coat. Instead they both decided to make an issue of it. That's all that I have to say on this subject.

Ixti, as long as our troops are fighting, dying, and being maimed physically and mentally, I will not get "over it"!

Think about this; our troops are "walking our walk" while we are "talking our talk".

Ixti, ask yourself, who do I want defending me against our sworn enemies, the TSA or our Military? Who bleeds for us? Who spends the lonely, fear laden time away from home and family? Who carry the scars inside and out from protecting us? Really; you wouldn't feel dissed if you had been in that Marine's situation?

I could go on about TSA not having any documented "saves" and their lack of casualties compared to our military; but figure that would fall on your deaf ears.
