View Full Version : New CM getting stuck open?

Picked up two new Kahrs last night - the CW9 and the CM9 - the deal was too good to pass up. I'm hoping to shoot at least the CM9 next week when I get back from vacation.
One thing I noticed with the CM9 is that with an empty mag installed, the slide will sometimes catch on something and not let it close completely. A tap or bump and it closes, and it won't always catch either. It only does it when doing a half rack. Imagine checking to see if a round is chambered - Move the slide back a half inch or so, see brass, and let go. Mine, for whatever reason, is hitting something with just an empty mag. I've not tried cycling ammo through it yet.
I've looked the mag over and see no shiny areas where something is rubbing. The problem doesn't happen with the mag out. What do you guys think? I've never shot it yet and I know there's a 200rd break-in, but I can't imagine that this is normal behavior...
Thanks for the forum and info!
Kevin
PS - looks like I need a new cover for the ironing board. Nasty...

Probably time for some "new gun preparation". There are tons of messages in the "New Member Area". I suspect the most important is the lube diagram.

Once you get past cleaning and lubing, it may still take some wear in, either hand cycling or shooting, for the slide to smooth out and stop hanging up on you. No worries! Shooting is the best way to do that and you need to bond with the pistol anyway.
Oh, and it's probably not a magazine issue. Pay especial attention to properly lubing the area labeled "1" in the lube diagram. Some light grease, like Shooter's Choice synthetic, works well for me.
Best of luck and Welcome to the forum!

Excellent photo, much better than what I got from the manual.

Thanks for the quick replies. I really hope/wish it's a lube issue, but I can actually feel something solid getting in the way. Maybe whatever it is will wear itself down after shooting it. It might not do it when loaded, or with rounds in the magazine. Time will tell.
I've been looking through the newbie section, from sanding the mag to polishing the ramp. Looks like I have a little 'modding' to do
Thanks again

I would not do any modding until you identify a legitimate issue.
Kahrs do thing differently loaded than empty, like trying to release the slide with slide lock on an empty mag, it very hard. But it drop normally when there's a round in it.
Don't worry about anything until you got something to worry about and then there's nothing to worry about cause you got a large support group right here and if it's too big for us, Kahr will take care of it. So you really got no worries at all.

Kwkincer,
My CM9 with about 150 rounds does the same thing; the best I can tell, the front of the lengthwise "rib" on the underside of the slide in front of the striker touches the top of the magazine follower. It does not hurt anything, but there is some interference when the slide moves forward with an empty magazine.
If you think about it, there is nothing wrong with that. There is no reason to cycle the slide with an empty magazine in the CM9 and that does not happen during normal firing.
Just my opinion, YMMV.
