Hey all,
I was having problems with my new P380 where the slide was not going fully into battery. Jay sent me a new recoil spring that was much more stiff than the original one, and that pretty much eliminated the problem.
However, while I was shooting 150 rounds to see if the new recoil spring fixed the problem, a new problem developed with occasional FTFs. It was always the SECOND round in the magazine where the bullet was flat and the nose of the bullet was jammed into the bottom of the feed ramp. There was no upward angle to the bullet at all. This happened with both my practice FMJ bullets as well as my Critical Defense rounds.
I checked the mag springs, and they were all in the correct position. This problem happened about every second or third magazine as I progresses through the 150 rounds. I think I read here somewhere that Kahr has fixed this problem before by reshaping/polishing the feed ramp. Does this sound reasonable? Have any of you had this problem, and if so, how was it resolved?
Thanks,
Sweaty Bullitts
If you have more than one magazine doing it then it sounds to me like your slide isn't cycling with enough zip to force the round up into the chamber. Switch back to your old springs temporarily to see if the issue goes away.

secndround. it could be the magaziefollower grabingonto the mag releasebutton. thatfollower at round 2is rightin theopeningof the magazinetube and sometimes the mag release button will grab o nit and cause this. It is easy to check out, go to the propper prepping thread and it will tell u how tocheck it out and how to fix it. takes 5 minutes to check out and 10minutes to fix it. Its not ur feed ramp, u gotta start some where to eliminte allthe possabilityes and this could be one of them. While u have the magazine apart. give the underside of the magazine tube feed lips a good polishig with some 600+ grit paper, and also take afew minutes and repolish the feed ramp. both may look good and they may well be but ur not gonna hurt a damn thing by don this and u might just enhance the over all reliability. Keep us posted. I think ur very close to getting this gun runnig right to. :Amflag2:

Hey all,
I contacted Jay, he sent me the shipping label, and I sent my P380 in on July 15.
I hadn't received it back yet, so I emailed Jay yesterday (8/8/13) for the status, and this is his reply:
Good morning. I have spoken with our head gunsmith and he is waiting for a new slide to finish being machined for your pistol. He is hoping to have it out sometime later next week. I hope this information helps.
sincerely,
Jay
I must admit, I'm surprised about a couple things:
1) Why would they have to machine a new slide when I thought the problems were related to the mags, recoil spring, and/or the barrel feed ramp?
2) Why would they have to special order a newly machined slide, rather than simply take one off the stack of new slides intended for new pistols?
O well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Any of you have any thoughts about why a new slide would be needed rather than a new or reworked barrel?
Thanks,
Sweaty

They are back logged and may not have a stack of new slides to draw from.
In between batches etc. I had to wait for a slide on my K40 way back years ago.
Apparently it's a fitting issue or something, hard to say, barrel latch up to slide not right, could be anything.
Hopefully they'll have it 100% and back in your hands soon.

a comparison. a few yersa back my Porsche while stillunder warranty, the seat beltretractor broke,u know the retractor that winds the b elt backin place. wellI contaced my dealer 110 miles away and he said bring it over. . I did and they looked at it and siad yup its broke and we hav etoorder that retractor.I said, fokk u have a dozen new Porsches on the floor robb one out of them and get me goin. they said they cannot do that. Don't ask me why things happen like that and wy they can't rob peter to pay paul but, I had to make a full return trip just to get that fokker replaced. I was not happy either but again, maybe there was indeed a real reason why they wuld not take oneoff of a new car to get meback on the road. Could be the same way with kahr and robbing new parts off of a new gun that is ready to be shipped out etc..

I bet knowing jocko's calm passive nature he let the whole thing slide without saying anything.
Anyone want to take that bet???

I was having the same experience with both FTF & FTRB until i followed each step here.

I'm guessing you probably saw that but i can't help but re-post this info wherver it's needed... it' definaly changed my experience and impression of my .380
I can't say how even manually racking the slide (with and with out FMJ ammo) made a huge difference in my first 100 rounds and my second 100 rounds. I've only taken my out to the range twice but the difference has been night & day.
I also think the Frog Lube helped even more than i expected especially when things heated up .
Thanks again to Jocko and the gang for posting that info... there seriously needs to be a tag on the gun leading people to that post.
