I am new to Kahr, having recently purchasing a New CM40 in March. I needed a smaller CCW and the CM40 seemed to be the right weapon.

The CM40 has already had to be sent back to Kahr for service. Kahr replaced both magazines and (according to the paperwork) reworked the trigger. In only 200 rounds there has been 16 Fail to Feed problems and 2 Fail to Fire.

Maybe I expect too much, I purchased a new Colt M1911A1 Colt Mk. IV Series 70 back in 1982 and I still own it today. It has only failed to feed one or two times. But its to big to conceal carry.

In a home defense situation, I WILL NOT reach for the Kahr. I will reach for the Colt or my wife's Taurus PT 709, which has been 100% with 500 rounds through it so far.

I am NOT here to put down the CM40, the gun shop I purchased it from tried to talk me out of the CM40, stating that there are Much better concealed carry weapons.

He stated that the CM40 is picky, unlike the Colt or the Taurus (which he knows I'm used too) will fire anything that will fit in the magazine, the CM40 will not.

He might be right, My CM40 does NOT like Corbon 165gr Self Defense JHP It does like Hornady 165gr Critical Defense. Personal defense round problem solved.

Can anyone recommend a good target round. Here is what I know. It does not like the Federal Premium with 4 Fail to Feed in 50 rounds. The Federal American Eagle is just as bad with 9 Fail to Feed in 100 rounds.

The rest of the fail to feed and the two fail to fire was with the Corbon. The two fail to fire was due to the fact that the slide did not go all the way forward with the Corbon.

So what is a really good target/practice ammo.

There are others on this forum with first hand cm40 experience but welcome. I've shot alot of blazer brass through my k40 with no issues...mostly because that's what is available. You could try that and see. Good luck.

That you for your response.

I just want to make sure everyone knows that I am NOT putting down the CM40. I like the way it looks, the way it feels and I like Kahrs reputation.

It is just a picky gun. But I like it

As I shoot at the Winchester range a couple miles from my house, my target round is either the Winchester White Box 180gr JHP or, if not in stock, the WWB 165gr truncated.

Haven't had one single issue with either of those rounds in my CM40.

In my T40, I have had nothing but success with PMC Bronze.

I've also had great success with home loads of Berry's 180 grain plated bullets over 8.0 grains of Blue Dot powder.

Welcome to the forum! I'm dealing with Kahr customer service right now (my AOM140 M1 carbine). Sent it back to the factory on their dime a few days ago. So far they've been really good, we'll see how it turns out.

Anyway, best of luck--have you thought of sending it back again?

I have Not been to the range since I got it back. I just bought a box of Winchester White Box 165gr as suggested by Glock23. I should be able to get to the range this next weekend.

Kahr Customer service was great. They did replace both of my magazines (I knew one had a problem, the other I didn't) They also replaced the trigger bar.

After posting on the CM thread and reading the responses, I wonder how much of the problem could be me. Everyone suggests a very firm grip, I'm used to a Colt M1911A1 and I'm sure I may have developed a few bad habits because the M1911A1 is so easy to shoot.

I think the Kahr CM40 is just a little picky, I may just need a little more practice with it.
