View Full Version : It happened to me...broken mag follower

So I am at the range today with my new favorite pistol, my edc, my 100% reliable no matter what I feed it, CM9; when I happen to look closely at the magazine I have been using and notice that the tab on the front bottom of the follower is missing!
Now, before you think this is a rant :32: and I am ready to throw in the towel or something, realize that I have no idea when the tab broke. I have fired in excess of 400 rounds with this so far and I even reloaded that magazine and took it for a run AFTER I noticed the tab was broken. It ran just fine. :amflag:
So I finished up with the other magazine I had and put a few extra rounds downrange with my FNP9 and came home. A quick call to Kahr customer service and no questions asked (well okay, they did ask for my name and address) was told they would have a new follower in the mail to me today. :D
I hate that it happened, but it is a tool, the follower is plastic, and these things happen. I am glad to know that even "broken" it still continued to function well.

u needto keep an eye on that follower in the future. Onemore brokenfollower and it willneedto go back for a ramp mod by karh. I haveover 32K rounds through my pMJ9 and have broken one follower, andI like u did not even know it was broke until I took my mag apart to clean it one day. My 21 centshere. charlk the first broken follower up to "**** khappens". twice broken, then let kahr look at it.

when i spoke to them on the phone, they pretty much told me the same thing. they said if it happens again, when i call tell them that it is a repeat offender and then they will take it from there.

the second mag i have has not broken (yet?) so hopefully it was just weak plastic. :)

IMO not a weak plastic but sometimes the gun works itself out of some of theseissues. Like I statedI have broke one in 5+ years. Asu can seeit is very easy to see now that you know what to look for. either way kahr will make it right to

None of my other pistols' magazine followers ever "broke"
But I guess it's good to know the Kahr is still functional in case I'm fighting for my life.

Can someone take a picture and share of what a broken follower would look like? I'm a newbie to Kahrs and would like to have a visual...

Thx

Kwkincer, welcome aboard!
If you do a search for broken follower there are many threads and some have photos posted. Here are a couple of recent ones...

this is exactly what mine looks like. in fact, i think the little piece of plastic that came out of mine would fit exactly in that one!

I just can't understand why Kahr does not address these issues. As it's putting a bad light on what is otherwise a very fine product. It's not like this is anything new,or rears it's ugly head very rarely. It seems to be happening more and more all the time. They really need better Quality Control, or some sort of design change to the feed ramp or the mag follower.

IMO, they would rather send out new followers than go thru any design or manufacturing changes.

It's still cheaper for them to send out the all to frequent pre paid shipping labels to have the faulty pistols come back for modifications and then pay to send them back to their customers.

One would think that they might care about the bad reputation of their magazines but they don't seem to. :(

That Jim is the part that totally baffles me. Many gun consumers know about Kahrs Mag. and follower problems. It has to be costing them sales and unhappy customers. It simply can not be that hard to design new followers that will not hit the feed ramp on the last round. My older model PM9 never had these issues so what has changed??

Its NOT a follower issue. The feed ramp runs very close to the follower as it drops down to unlock and chamber next round and under recoil on a very few pistols the feed ramp can strike the follower and break it. Contact kahr and have them do whats needed to the feed ramp to fix the problem. Its not many handguns in the overall number sold. I have three my self and know of 6 or seven others locally and no problems with them. Yes it should not happen but open your eyes and pay attention as all firearm companies have to many problems thanks to the internet. HA

So here's a (probably dumb) question....

Could the follower be made of metal? Aluminum?

Not a dumb question.
Yes, and I plan to make some..... Eventually.... Some day. ;)

But a metal follower doesn't really help you if parts are hitting each other that shouldn't be.
