Just found the forums today, so I thought I'd join and introduce my new Kahr. I picked up a Kahr P40 Covert about 3 weeks ago while on leave in Texas. It's been to the range 3 times over the last 2 weeks for the break-in, and it worked flawlessly. First trip was 150 rounds of Winchester White Box. I wanted to do the whole 200 round break-in the first day, but that little Kahr has a bite. Didn't bring any band-aids, and the beavertail had worn some skin away and made my hand bleed. Few days later I put another 50 rounds of WWB and 50 rounds of Remington UMC, again with zero issues. Last trip was another 50 rounds of WWB and around 20 rounds of Cor-Bon. I've never shot a pocket pistol as accurate as this P40. I've really been surprised by it.

Here's a picture of the pistol, and one of my new MTAC.

Welcome, nice gun. That 40 is indeed a little beast but maneagable. Maybe not an everyday range gun but definitely a nice defense round and short practice sessions.
I was hoping to test out my Magna Ported K40 for the first time this weekend to see how much difference it made but it's not looking to good right now. Soon though. Hoping it tames the dragon just a bit.

:) welcome aboard ARODGERS.

Being a former owner of a P40 covert myself. I would recommend 2 upgrades for your pistol.

1. The Pearce Grip Extension which replaces the base plate on your mag.

2. A Hogue Handall Jr. grip cover.

BOTH can be purchased for around $10 each. And, really do make a major improvement in grip comfort IMO. :D

Thanks. I actually just saw the Hogue grip on someone else's P9 while browsing pictures and it looked interesting. I've had Hogue grips on other pistols, and I was worried it might make it harder to draw from a pocket holster. Anyone found that to be the case?

Also, I do have the extended mag that came with the gun. I like the shorter PM40 magazine for concealed carry but I'll take a look at the Pearce extensions.

ARODGERS;
Do u know if this was a factory made covert or one that an onwer made into a covert. Not that it matters. That is one neat gun. No doubt if it was mine I would Magna port it, Would really tame it down.

again a very very very nice gun and welcome to the most friendly forum u will ever find.

Yeah, any more than 100 rounds in one session is a little much for me with this gun. It makes an excellent carry gun though. I wasn't expecting a gun this small to be very tame. Looking forward to seeing how that porting does for you. The extended ported barrels looked pretty cool, but I haven't looked in to them much. Is the magna porting cut into your slide, or is it an aftermarket slide?

The old innertube trick might work a tad better for pocket carry. I noticed in the picture you had the extended magazine and that's perfect for range and carrying for a spare. I agree that the flush mag is the ticket for concealment especially pocket carry.
I also agree with Mr. Jocko on the magna port although I'll be able to give better input after I shoot mine some.

Congratulations on the new Kahr. I have a CW9 and added a Hogue to the grip and it made a big difference. I think Kahr is an outstanding pistol.

be able to go to the kahr tech section and hit on the kahr serial numbers and come very close to when that gun was made. I thought they stopped making the covert a few years back. Wonder where it has been all this time???

You got a dandy that is for sure and NIB makes it even more precious, IMO.

You could also probalby write kahr tech people or even call them and get the exact day the gun was built even. Would be nice to know,..

It was made 24 Feb 2005 according to the testfire envelope. I bought it at Collectors Firearms on Richmond Ave in Houston, TX so if anyone knows the place it's not surprising it's been there this long. They aren't exactly known for their cheap prices. I only had one day to go gun shopping before heading back to California and I'd been all around the city looking for a K40. Collectors was going to be our last stop and I was surprised to find the P40 Covert. I actually left and got a few miles down the road before turning back to get it. He gave me a %5 discount, which brought it closer to what I was hoping for, but it was still a bit more expensive than what I could have purchased a P40 for somewhere else. It did end up cheaper than buying it in CA and paying FFL/DROS fees.

I love the looks of the covert. Was this an option before the PM came out?

ARODGERS. I certainly was not questioning the newness of it but Iknow that gun had not been made for a few years, WOW to find one NIB YET sitting in a dealer, is a one of a kind find. That is one super P40, really is. Keep all that info to, expecially the slaes slip as now sure but back around then kahr went to the 5 year warranty, U might want to even check that out to see if you have the 5 year or the lifetime. Kahr can tell you that, Would be good to know.
I am not a 40 cal kahr fan, but I am envious of this buy. It is a dandy, and if it was mine, most here would know I would magna port it and then shoot it like a 9mm .

I you ever decide to change the sights on your kahr do go to the karh web site and check out how to see if your kahr has the new style dovetail or the older style. very important when ordering any aftermarket sights. There will be a small punched dot int hemetal on the underside of the slide. That depicts the newer model...

again super peace..

PS: if you go to the kahr tech section and hit on the second sticky down. The kahr lub diagram. you will see that little indentation (dot) on the right side of the slide between the 2 #9 arrows. that means new model slide.

You might try a Brooks A-Grip instead of a rubber grip sleeve, they do not grip fabric like rubber does and it give a fantastic grip on the gun, even when wet.

Tonight I picked up the Kahr P40 Covert that I bought on Auction Arms for $342. It was listed as in 98% condition and I thought that was pretty accurate. It looked new except for the usual abrasion at the chamber.

The FFL was the local indoor range, so I gave the gun a trial. I had six or seven kinds of ammo to try, considering the FTF problems I have had with my well used, older PM40. It handled them all without a hiccup. I feel like either a genius or very lucky to have stumbled into such a good gun. I wasn't even seriously bidding on the thing. It is less than half the price of my PM40.

So I think what I will do is arrange to have the PM40 go back to Kahr for updating. The recoil spring assembly they sent didn't work for me. I have some real money in parts I can't use. Only the mag springs were usable. I will see if I can work a deal that doesn't involve the restocking fee. If I can get the gun working well and not too picky on ammo, I believe I will have it ported. Meanwhile, the P40 Covert is my friend because it works without complaint.

This gun has the aftermarket traction stuff on the upper part of the grip. I wasn't too sure I liked that surprise but after shooting the gun am quite happy with it.

The Covert will become a summer belt carry gun along with the Kimber Compact CDP II, depending on the occasion and way I am dressed. While the PM40 is gone, the Covert becomes the fanny pack gun for driving. All the same holsters and the fanny pack fit fine.

The magazine is a grunt longer because it has the plastic cap instead of the metal flush fit of the PM40. It amounts to a middle ground between a flush fit and an the extended mag. My small hands fit it perfectly with my pinky hooked right on that little spur of the plastic mag cap. I shot well with it.

The Covert does not have night sights, so this is a new sight picture for me. My three other Kahrs all have Trijicon logo sights on them. I am not sure what I will do there. I have considered swapping sights with the PM40. They both have "old style" sight cuts on them.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I wanted to maintain the context.

What I bid on was a P40 Covert. What I received was a P40, true to the pictures. No wonder it fits my hand so nicely. It's cool. I'm happy. It didn't sink in until I put the PM40 next to it and I started counting rounds in magazines.

The gun is really tight and probably has 200 rounds or less through it. It was probably one of those deals where the recoil made the owner set it aside quickly. My gain, since a Kahr in .40 is really my thing.

I couldn't trace the serial number series to year. It is ZB05xx.

Seems like you got a super good deal even not being a covert. Apparently the seller didn't understand the covert meaning or something.
Regardless if you like it and it works for you it's all good.

Welcome to the forum, glad you found your way to the Motherland.:typing: I have a Hogue grip on both my Kahrs and I have no problem getting either gun out of my pocket. It really makes a difference when shooting these guns as well.
