View Full Version : CM45 slide seems to be locking up

I say seems to be because it functions as it should when I'm firing it.
This gun is my EDC, so every time I'm at the range, I'll shoot four or five rounds to make sure the gun functions and does what it's suppose to do with my round of choice (Federal HST's)
... and it does.
Here's where my problem comes in (this has happened two times now) when I get home and start to clean the guns, I'll drop the mag and attempt to rack the slide in order to empty the chamber. It won't budge. I damned near have to resort to getting a mallet out.
The question is; The gun cycles naturally at the range, why does it "lock up" and not cycle by hand?
I'd hate for it to stay locked up, if I really needed it.
Has this happened to anyone else? Everything appears normal ???
Thanks in advance.

I must be behind. I didn't know the CM 45's had hit the streets yet.
On to your question. Are you shooting reloads? I've never had that problem with factory loads but my PM45 will stick sometimes when the bullet isn't seated deep enough. It seems the PM45's are sensitive to cartridge length.

what dirt doc said is what I would surley check out. even with new rounds. Just look at the bullet after racking it out of the gun. If ther are visible signs of cus and grooves, then tha tis why it is locking up.
with the slide locked back and no round in the barrel, just drop a round in the chamber and then see if u can tilt the gun enough for the roud to fall out. It should.

My mistake. I was reading something about a CM9 before I posted. It's a CW45

rollin thunder: brings back some very good memories. Made that ride 3years in a row. 700 miles to honor those who never got a chance to make that ride.
Your problem is you shoot it at the range, not hand rack it at the range. Your ammo is too tight for the chamber, but it gets in there when the slide slams it in. And it shoots.
Disassemble the pistol. Drop the ammo one at a time into the barrel. It should fit in the chamber at, or slightly below flush with the hood on the barrel. And it should come out of the chamber easily... just drop out.
As an aside.. my new FNX has a huge chamber, on the looser side of things. Both my PM45's have tight as can be chambers. I have ammo - remanufactured - that fits the FN no problem, but won't go into the Kahr chamber more than about 3/4 of the way.

I had the same problem with my PM45 and Hornady ammo (200 gr XTP and 200 gr +p TAP ammo). Seems OAL is slightly longer with this ammo. When I fired this ammo, the slide would not go completely into battery. Had to give slide a little tap on the rear. I tried to hand cycle this ammo as well, and my slide also locked up TIGHT!! Had to put a little extra muscle into it to get the round free. I have heard of this problem with the Federal HST ammo as well. Now the Critical Defense ammo works just fine, as well as Speer Gold Dot ammo.
