Tried some CCI shotshells in my CW45: they chamber without issue and fully cycle the action when fired:)

Hmmmm.... interesting. What can I do with that? I'm going to have to get some shot shells now. I'm thinking snakes, rodents, ...

Thanks Greg

Wow! That's very surprising. I never dreamed they would feed OR cycle.

That be right handy in your neck of the woods with snakes and such.

I didn't know such things existed as 45Auto shotshells. Intriguing. [Spock eyebrow lift]

Thanks for posting that Greg. I still have a couple of "10 packs" of .45 acp CCI shot shells from several years ago when both my son and I tried them in our 1911's. No go with our 1911's, but I figured there was probably a handgun chambered for .45 acp out there somewhere with a weak enough mainspring to cycle them.

Nice video, well done. I used to shoot snakes with both 22 shot shells and 38 shot shells. 22's wouldn't cycle an automatic. I only shot the 38's from a revolver so had no problem there. I bought some 9mm but haven't tried them yet

+1 . . . In addition to expressing my appreciation, now I will have to look for some CCI shot shells in "fotay" to try in my PM40.

Thanks, Greg! :)

gb6491 What kind of round count do you have thru your cw45. newer low count recoil spring or ready for replacement ? Nice it it will function so well.

mr surveyor Same guestion for you along with barrel length and spring weight .

Might be able to funtion only with mostly used up stock recoil springs.

I tried them in my Kimber Stainless Compact, 4" barrel with 22# main spring, and my son was using a Kimber 5 inch with (I think) 18# spring. We also tried the 9mm shells in some older Star BM pistols ... some would cycle, some not.

I carry CCI shot shells in my .357 "field gun" every day during snake season (which is all but December, January and February around here)

The stalkin' walkin' shadow was a very nice production touch.

I looked hard to see a smile in the slo-mo, but might have missed it. Cold execution, cold. :D

Nice and thanks.

Thanks for sharing that Greg, great video! Now I want some shot shells for my CW45's, quite a few rattle snakes and cotton mouths out in the woods where I shoot.

Hey folks,
Thanks for all the comments:)
I do think these will be good mojo for pests.

To answer hardluk1's:

My CW45 has quite a few rounds through it, but I believe I replaced the spring less than 500 rounds or so ago. I had a couple of the shotshells left so I ran one each through a 1911 and an XD-S today (both have low round count recoil springs). Here's what happened:

My guess is that they are using a different magic dust from when mr surveyor last tried them.

After my video uploaded, I noticed this one by tnoutdoors9 (http://www.youtube.com/user/tnoutdoors9?feature=watch) was linked on the same page (his review is much better done than mine:ohmy::cool:)

The .40 and .45 shotshells work in many pistols, but not so much the 9mm. The 9mm have a blue plastic nose that can break off when feeding. The .40 and .45 have the plastic cover inside the shell casing with a slight necked down nose. I load a few of them when working on the property (for snakes). Haven't used one yet. I usually already have a shovel handy. The last snake was in a bunch of big rocks and I didn't want to risk miniature high velocity ricochet. :O

I remember having a problem with my K9 with the shotshells. I chambered one and I couldn't eject the unfired round... too long. I thought I would never get the thing out and I couldn't fire the gun where I was. That's something to test, anyhow.

You may not want to try this yourself but the shot in the shells is so small that you don't get ricochets from them. I have shot snakes inside my garage with 38's and 22's. they were on concrete floors and close to the walls. I dispatched a couple of copperheads. The largest one was right in the corner and I shot it from 5' into the corner with the 38. There were no bounced back lead pellets. I have shot over 10 on the sidewalk from close range and no damage to the concrete. They are the best snake medicine I have found. Almost all were 1 shot kills, but some took two to finish off. Hit them in the head and they die quick and the jaws are usually broken so they couldn't bite you even if they didn't die on the spot.

gb6491 Thanks for the videos. Yep, you got the right magic dust out this time. Good to see it may run in most pistols given a good grip. Keep that older high round count springs for rat shot carry , maybe.

I do prefer a lite walking stick if around snakes in general . Less chance of them biting them self and a lite crack behind the neck kills them quickly . Plus hold the head down while cutting it off it your going to skin or eat them. I have seen a headless ratter strike a buddy. Scared the be-jesus out of him.

I tried this just the other day. 2 of 3 shotshells worked. The third stovepiped. Couldn't you buy an extra recoil spring and clip a few coils like some do with those pos sig Mosquitos? Seems like that would be an easy and cheap way to ensure the shotshells would work if you're on snake patrol, right?

I would not alter anything on the gun for shotshell use. Just take good aim on the first shot. If you get a stovepipe, they are easy to clear manually for a second shot. I always had to hand rack my 22 for the second shot. They never cycle. For 100% no fail use, use them in a revolver. A 38 load in a 38/357 works best.

I finally got a couple packages of these 45 shotshells a few minutes ago off the front porch. 20 rounds should last a long time. I'll shoot a few to function but will hoard the rest.
We don't have poisonous critters on our side but I get over to Alfonse's side now and then and they got em over there, plus I just hate snakes so while I hope not to see em, I'm happy to make them dead if I do.
My oh my, just noticed it took me 7+ years to make this happen......don't like to rush into things ya know?
