Right or Wrong, this is exactly why I would never dream of responding to a knock on my door at that time of night without a loaded firearm. This guy got extremely lucky that he is alive! It could have very easily ended in a different fashion.

If some person is knocking on my back door in the middle of the night then he is already trespassing and really should be wondering about the tiny red light dancing on his center of mass...

The door stays closed, but the window that has a perfect full field view of said door will be open for action.

anybody that knocks on any of my doors aren't welcome. family and friends have been trained to call first. If there is a knock it is always answered gun in hand. it sounds like i am a shut in, but i just hate surprises, salespeople and jehovah's witnesses. (and also wednesday evening visitations by the baptists).
