Ok all that chimed in before. Took the P40 and fired 2 magazines through with the .40 parts. Same garbage as before, no slide lock back and 4 out of 6 rounds failed to feed. So I swapped out a P9 slide stop with a .40 mag to slightly better results but best combo was a P9 slide stop with P9 magazines. Slide locked back every time. I just still have the failure to feed issues. Should be around 400 rounds through total by now. Took apart the P9 and P40 mags and noticed the P9 mag spring is 3 loops shorter so I'm assuming that helped somewhat with the feed issues. They were still present but at a rate of roughly 2 rounds per mag instead of 4 with the .40 mag/spring. So I think using only P9 mags with a P9 slide stop is part of my solution, but I feel like the slide is hanging up somewhere. In photos, does it look like I need to polish the slide where the shiny spot ends? And none of my other Kahr's have the rear of frame beat up and fuzzy like this one as if its rubbing excessively. The .40 frame is on the left in the bottom photo with the 9 on the right. At first it looks like that little spring is too far into the opening on the .40 but then you can see the opening is bigger than the 9 and spring is same length. Any more thoughts?

If the magazine springs are lying on the table in the same position relative to the magazine tubes and followers as when they are installed in the magazine, you springs are backwards. Properly installed, the longest end of the spring will be in the front, thus pushing the tip of the cartridge up.

If spring was in backwards, the tip of the cartridge will not be pushed up into the best position for feeding.

Smoothing those fuzzy surfaces on the back of the polymer grip to provide about a 32nd of the inch clearance between the moving parts of the slide and the grip would be worthwhile.

The springs weren't in backwards that's just how I laid them there but I was thinking of smoothing the back. So thanks for the reaffirmation on that.

It does look like that slide stop spring on the 40 is bent. There was a recent thread in involving a CM40 that stopped feeding correctly and it also had a bent slide stop spring. Fixing the spring solved that gun's feed issue:
http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19850 (discussion about the spring starts on page 3)
Looking at that might be worth a shot before polishing anything.

Glad you solved the slide stop matter.

I would like to see a pic of the breech face / casing when there is a ff but I still say new recoil spring will probably help return that slide to battery since the rnd looks lined up but needs a little extra push to fully chamber that rnd unless it is hung up on the bottom edge of the breech face.

Yes clean up that fuz with a sharp knife or stone. I don't think it is the problem but looks like sheet.

That said, GB is the man and knows his sheet.
