View Full Version : Bawanna's Be Happy, Positive Good Stuff Thread

Ok boys and girls, I'm back from my annual pilgrimage to the east side of the mountains, fishing, and hanging out.
It was good. It reminded me that there is life other than work, life without violets, and this is all good. What I also found with the spotty internet at the resort I stayed at is that there is also life without Kahrtalk!
That ladies and gentlemen is not good, not good at all, very, very bad.
My wife says I spend more time chatting here with my pals than I do with her, my friends and coworkers think I have a forum addiction and I DO! Anybody got a problem with that? Hmmmmm?
The last year or so it seems we've been in a constant negative downward spiral.
Seems every thread even with the best intentions turns negative at some point. Frankly I've had a belly full of it.
So I give you the Be Happy, Positive, Good stuff thread.
No negative here. This maybe considered similar to the monthly anything goes thread but the difference is this is my thread. MINE.
If big brother is stepping on your toes, that's a sad sad thing, post it in politics, or on Gtalk.
If your dog had flea's and it's driving you crazy, that's sad too, post it in the General Information section.
If you washed your car today for the first time in 5 years and it's looks awesome, that goes here. A little car love is a positive thing.
New guns, stuff pulled out of the back recess's of the toy box, let's see a picture.
If you went in a store and got treated like a rock star or the way you should that's positive, love to hear about that.
If you got Bunion's but your doctor or nurse is a hottie, we can probably squeeze that in, Bunions alone, no go, that's a bad thing.
Get the idea? Post negative, life sucks, CS treated me poorly, the governors a fat slob and it's gone without fanfare or notice.
Let's bombard the internet with positive and see if we can turn the tide. I want to return to the days when if I was 2 hours away from kahrtalk I'd be in withdrawal.
Be happy my friends.

Since we're in a positive seeking mode, I'll share a nice gesture by one of my best friends who I've never met and fellow moderator, as well as a genuine information fountain of youth.
GB reads me like a book, I swear he has ESP powers or something. Anyway he's known for some time that I've got a deep hankering for a Schofield 45LC.
Out of the blue saturday he sends me an email that his local shop has one used in very nice shape at a very decent price.
On a weekend, this gentlemen of leisure is thinking about bawanna. How cool is that.
I'd love to keep this in happy, happy, happy mode and say the Schofield is enroute but alas it's not to be BUT I'm working on it. Who know's, perhaps the Schofield God's will smile on me and I'll find some secret stash of cash and it'll still be there to come to it's rightful home.
Thanks GB for thinking of me, it was a match made in heaven, just didn't pan out with the bank book right now, but again it ain't over yet!

As most of you know, I had triple bypass surgery on the 1st of June. It all went well and now I'm almost two months beyond the surgery date. My thanks to the Tman and RevRay for their support.
On the 14th of June, I was able walk down the isle to give away my second daughter to marriage. A good time was had by all.
Two days ago, found out that I'll be a grandfather again from the first daughter. This will make three grandkids.
Life is good. Way better than the alternate!

Hopefully your starting to show signs of getting back up to snuff. I know it's a slow process I'm sure.
Exactly the type of post I was hoping for here. Thank you so much!

1. Last Wednesday I got a new CM9 mag and 8 round 9mm extended mag that I'm going to play around with trying to make a full extended grip somehow.
2. I've been on call for 10 days and tomorrow I'm going to buy some good Brandy and have a few drinks. Can't wait. Look for a loose lipped post tomorrow night on Kahrtalk.
3. Yes, it's OK to be addicted to Kahrtalk. I am too. Best place to hang out.

Got to add - This month eliminated two doctors from the have to see regime. Cardiac surgeon and cardiopulmonary doctor. Only two left, but I'm real sure I'll be seeing them for quite a while.

so after about 6 hours of working in the yard, I went to Dicks and bought some scope rings so I could mount this Bushnell Trophy on the old Mark1. I can't shoot any better but at least I can see what I'm hitting past 25 yards. 22s make mighty small holes. :o Great day overall.
Thanks for the feel good thread Colonel. I'm looking forward to seeing what gets posted in here.

my Mom, Father-in-law and Aunt Karen have all been down the triple bypass path too. Good news is they each came out feeling 10 years younger. Amazing how good you feel once everything's working the way it's supposed to. Glad you are recovering well.

I discovered Scotch. I tried Johhny Walker Red and liked it, now I must move it up a step to the Johnny Walker Black, heard it is better. Anyone suggest other scotchs that are good and reasonably priced? :)

any single malt should whet your whistle...have fun finding your favorite. I'm into bourbons myself. Tried a bunch but keep going back to Makers Mark. Those of you out west might want to try High West Distillery's Rye. I dunno if I like it so much because it tastes great or because I cannot get it here in Ohio. I tried a new one last night: Bastille French Whisky. Yum. I ramble....

Great idea on the thread. I have a quote from Charles Swindoll posted in each of the rooms in my office. A lot of people ask for a copy, which we keep behind the posted one. To paraphrase it, in summary, it states that life is 10% what you have to deal with and 90% how you deal with it.
Now, I have had so very little of my 10% to deal with compared to so many others. My life is very good and I am very blessed.
But some positivity is always a good thing.
Yesterday a very nice young man asked me for my oldest daughter's hand in marriage. Life is good!

I drink the Red, Black is better but wife won't buy it.
I don't know what it cost but my mom like Dalmore. Got me a bottle at Christmas, very good stuff.
I took a bottle of Red on vacation, still a couple swallows left, guess I'll have one now in preparation for return to work tomorrow.
For some reason I look forward to it, I must be coming down with something. I do like routine and habit.

My wife left me on Friday...
as in I brought her to the airport so she could be with her mom after back surgery (for the fifth time) and to be with her when she gets cataract surgery on both eyes next week.
The good news for me is that I can now take out the Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .41 mag out for some fun. Yes, I had to smuggle it into the house without her knowledge.
I know, I'm a bad person and an addict. But at least I have something to show for my money! Guess I should post up a picture and range report on the thread I started when I put it on lay away.
Oh, and my Blazer is running right again after replacing the catalytic converter and EGR valve! Not so happy about the $500 to get things right again but better than making monthly payments!

Just got back Friday from a week at Ocean NJ. Where a friend had leant me his home free of charge on the beach. Had a great time. No internet ,no negativity, just sitting back chillin out with the wife eating some really good food.:D The most meaningful and hardest thing I did all week was get up at 05:30 and take a 5 mile ride on the boardwalk with my mountain bike and watch the dolphins in the surf and sun come up. Life is indeed good.:Amflag2:

Thanks,
Did that to one day when we were on the beach. My friend had one in the garage that we gave some airtime to.:D Kind of a weird looking thing but it flew like a Someabitch. I almost bought one down there that looked like a P51 Mustang.

Nice car! Wifey and I have had a lot of togetherness now since she lost her job about a month ago. The last two weekends we spent at two gun shows in a row here in Jacksonville. We had lots of fun meeting new people and I got to TALK a lot without typing!
Now we're planning to exhibit at the largest show 24/25 August at the Convention Center downtown. It's a lot easier when you have all your stuff boxed up and in bins ready to go!
I did get a little surprise when trying to help a guy figure out if the Glock +1 magazine base plate would work on the sub-compact mags, too. The guy whipped out a loaded mag from his holder for me to look at! I said you weren't supposed to have loaded mags, but he said he was a cop. I gave him one to try. I got a bunch free from CDNN when I bought magazines and was only trying to get $2 each anyhow.
We didn't sell any guns this weekend but I really enjoyed the camaraderie with the other "dealers" and the customers. I even managed to sell a few Glock mags at slightly more than cost and did sell a few at cost, too.:D

We had our daughter's second birthday yesterday. It's amazing how quickly they grow up, it seems like just the other day we were heading to the hospital to have her, and now she's running around everywhere, talking constantly, and has stolen all the focus of my whole world.
It seems like whatever is going on that may get me down, all I have to do is go play with her, or watch her and my wife playing together and everything just seems to get better.

My sentiments exactly Justin. You got a cutie there! I like how you said she has stollen the focus of your whole world. We have two daughters. The oldest turned 3 last month and the youngest is turning 1 this Wednesday. Time flys! I'll see if I can find a good photo to post.

My husband and I are spending the week camped near two of our grandkids. We were both married before (this time is really GREAT) and I've never been able to have kids,
so the grandkids are an EXTRA SPECIAL blessing to me. I got the promotion to Grandma without being a biological Mom.

Very cute Justin. One thing about grandbabies is they keep us young, grounded and what's really important in life. Thanks for this thread Bawanna, we really need to stop being so negative all the time and count our blessings.....I'm reading a book by Joyce Meyer called "Change your Words Change your Life" It really maters how we think and speak about anything that happens to us as life goes along and to try and keep a positive outlook on everything we do and say because people and especially our children really do hear and react to our words...I really think that negativity breeds negativity and can cause bad things to happen and I'm really trying to look at life in a more positive way these days....
My youngest son/shooting buddy and last child at home is going to receive his Eagle Scout award at the first of August and then go off to college...Funny as they are growing up you have this goal of getting them through high school and off to college and out of the house but now that the last one is leaving I'm not sure I like the idea so much....To those with small children and grand babies be sure to spend every minute with them that you can, they really do grow up so fast and the older we get the faster old mister time really seems to go....

No not this time Just the mountain bike and the Explorer. The Harley has been down to LBI a few time as well as Wildwood, AC, Cape May and a more than a few other shore points north like Point Pleasant and as far up as the Highlands. I used to ride with a group of guys called the Polar Bears where we rode all winter all over Pa., NJ, and NY. I gave that up a few years back as these old bones just do not like riding in 32 deg. weather and below for long distances anymore. OC was spared from Sandy I did notice quite a few boards have been replaced in the board walk around Tenth St. though. I like OC and LBI there's not a lot of BS goes on there, and you can just kick back relax have a few cold beverages and eat some pick and peels, and steamers and look at the ocean. Wife and I went to a place Thursday night called the Crab Trap. They had some of the best Scallops I have ever tasted. You being from LBI I'm sure you must have eaten at Mud City Crab House in Manahawkin a time or two. They have some very tasty food there also. Those young South Jersey Waitresses aren't to hard on the eyes either. ;) Gives new meaning to eating clams while your looking at one of them.:D

I love the original minis....especially in RHD. Recently sold my fairly long term, 10 years, FX4 London Taxi hobby car.....too underpowered for any practical road use at 6000ft. Been pondering a new hobby machine. This be an idea. Was thinking about a Morris Minor but they have the same issue as Taxi did.
And come COB Wednesday I'm retiring from the active, daily workforce after 52 years solvent enough I'm not gonna have go get a job as a WalMart greeter nor eat cat food more than twice a week. I think that be a good happy.

Does have some nice lines. Not customary probably round our parts but I like it. I do also love a good bolt rifle be it 22 or any other caliber for that matter.

Tell her it's an investment. I think the 452 lux with the bent stock is not being made anymore and it will become a collectors item. Or tell her you see a big grip order coming up to pay for it.

There's talk that the whole 452 line will be discontinued in favor of the 455. The walnut stocked Lux is already gone (well except for the left hand version). The Trainer is pretty much a clone of the Lux except it has a beech stock. The wood on my Trainer is good by me, but my Ultra Lux (also beech) has some funky wide grain on one side.
These really are fine rifles:)

I like the sights on the 452 that slides for the distance you're shooting. Mine was right on target with I think it was standard velocity ammo. Hypervelocity I think I had to adjust 25 yards. really cool amazing .22.

I have had a CZ 22 lr trainer for about 10 years. Very plain wood on the stock and the European style hump back takes a bit to adjust to. The rifle shoot tiny groups at 50 yards that magnify your lack of ability not the rifles. Does like decent ammo of at least Rem Golden's level. Mags are a bit expensive but you only need a few extra. I was about $200 wholesale in those days. Welcome back Bawanna - good thread.

I didn't think I was gonna be in much of a Positive mood for awhile, my wife got bucked off her horse Tuesday evening and I spent all night in 2 emergency rooms. Turns out she fractured her pelvis, but docs said it would heal on it's own. Ribs and everything else bruised and beat up, finally let us out about 7 the next morning and took forever to get her in a car and out at home.
BUT after sleeping most of the day yesterday and last night she's a 100% improved over yesterday. Still using a walker but taking regular steps and moving around at will without me as a spotter. I might have to go back to work tomorrow.
I sure enjoyed sleeping last night after being up all night and all day yesterday.
Not cut out for all nighters anymore I guess.
Before anyone ask, Jocko already offer a fair price for the Pinto. (He's still alive.) Pretty horse or he'd be headed for Iowa.
Figure she must not have put the saddle on right or something, he's not mean and never bucked before. Only had him a couple months but he's usually pretty mild mannered for being 7.

Hmm, vinegar and white rum, I hadn't heard of that before. I checked and they didn't have white rum at the local 7-11, might be a liquor store item.
My biggest concern was checking with Wyn to see if a white or red wine would go best. I generally don't do fermented grapes, (bad experience in my youth with a bottle of Annie Greensprings, bed thought it was a helicopter blade for about 3 days, haven't done grapes since).
Thanks for the link Greg.
Thanks for the thoughts, she's doing a whole bunch better already, I thought it was gonna be a very long haul but she's darn near her old self, just a lot slower. Not even taking the good pain drugs prescribed. That's good! I might use those down the road sometime myself.

Bawanna, sorry to hear about your wife's fall. I grew up with quarter horses and rode rodeo for years so I know just now dangerous horses can be. I finally gave up riding saddle broncs after a hard throw where I hit a fence upside down and landed on my head. I thought my neck was broken, which it luckily wasn't. I decided I wasn't as young as I used to be and now I just ride for fun.

Oh yeah! Truth right there.
Certified, I'm glad you didn't break your neck. That would be a very very bad thing. I broke at the extreme other end and that's bad enough but I still got my hands and arms and can do most anything.
I always wanted to be a rodeo clown, just never panned out and maybe that's not a bad thing either.
We do enjoy watching rodeo.
Any time you try to ride something with a mind of it's own it's risky business.
This horse generally is pretty mild mannered, not mean at all. Just something didn't set right with him and the dismount was not pretty.

Had fun at the range today and last Thursday. Shot the PM9 and my new 1911 today. I'm improving with the PM9 (staying on paper), then I blasted out the center with the 1911!
Last Thursday I shot my CW9, and when I got back and was cleaning it and thinking "what a great gun". Really, that is a nice pistol! The design is simple and yet elegant (in a utilitarian way). All the parts are machined well and fit together great. It is compact and still shoots almost like a duty sized pistol.
Denver gun show tomorrow. With all the time in the world to rebuild my rusty gunsmith talents, I'm going lookin' for a 9mm 1911 platform to build somethin' on.

I keep thinking I need a 1911 in either 9mm or 10mm.
Don't know why I feel like that.
Came very close to getting a 1911 45 recently.
But went with a HK USP45 Tactical instead.
So far I'm very happy with that discussion.
But the idea of some sort of 1911 keeps haunting me...
Maybe part of me feels like that's the American thing to do?

So I bought this 8 round mag to use in my CM9 at the range to "simulate" my CW45 grip but shoot some cheaper ammo.
I was gonna make some kind of grip extension but for those interested, Harrylee can fix you up. He's has these extensions that he made that fit like a factory part and give a full grip for times that you want one. Very, Very nice. You could use this IWB if desired.

I think that is Mrs. Surv. Rumor on the internet is she's a hottie.
Yeah, you and Surv seem to have that in common. It's a good thing! http://home.mindspring.com/%7Ejustsomeguy/thumbsup.gif
The landings on some of them falls can be a might tricky. If your back on your bike that has to be a good sign.
You nailed it. The return to biking is definitely consistent with the "Bawanna's Be Happy, Positive Good Stuff Thread" theme of this thread! Life is good!
I'll tell the wife she has company and she's not alone.

Thanks for posting the pic from the "other site" for me. For some reason, I can't for the life of me get anything uploaded to the p-bucket site that I've been using for 10-12 years. At the moment, I don't have the patience to deal with anymore technocrap. The little Sony camera we bought a few days before the trip was complicated enough, and I have about 700 pics downloaded that I want to sort through to find the really good ones to crop and enhance a bit for printing. Then realized the old, functional photo software I used to be familiar with is on my old laptop and probably no longer "available" to download to my current office desktop machine.
I have to deal with enough technical electronics and optics in my day to day life and no longer have the will power to deal with more of it just for fun.

I was a good time. It was a great way to finish off a beautiful day ... absolutely gorgeous weather ... and a nice hour with a good friend at the range. I enjoyed almost equal time with my MK9 and my CM9. Almost equal, because I definitely favor the MK9. I really like that gun, and I am so glad I waited for it to come along ... because knowing it only cost me $380 makes it even that much more enjoyable.

For those of you living in the right kind of state, this will be no big deal ... but here in Connecticut, it was nice to walk into my LGS tonight and buy 9mm ammo as if it were no big deal. Actually, the LGS is not really local (it's about 22 mi away), but it was nice to be able to go for a ride with the top down just to see what the ammo situation was. My wife's off visiting some friends a few hundred miles away, which gave me the free time to go for a drive. Looking back on it, I should have bought the 12 boxes I was allowed so I could have some for my shooting buddies, but I didn't think of that until I was already on the way home.

Well, we're getting liquid "sunshine" again here in NE Florida. I like the positve things about that... less danger of forest fires and not having to water!
Yesterday I dug out the table saw and other power tools and spent the afternoon building some display racks for the gun show this weekend. I was able to get everything done and Wifey was fine with a late dinner... lamb chops, saffron rice and green peas... sat down around 9:30 PM and then watched our favorite TV shows... Dexter and then Donovan. It was 25 minutes after midnight when we finished watching Donovan!
I didn't take pictures of my shotgun display rack, but here's my ammo display shelf. I used small poplar boards and "designed" it on the fly, using what I had on hand in the way of screws... quite a mix of stainless and galvanized deck screws. I'm not a carpenter, but I did a trial run on loading it up for display on our dining table over its legs. Nothing collapsed, but it takes a while to get all of the stuff displayed.
None of my ammo came from Walmart or even locally. I ran it down online and tried to get the best deals in pricing, no tax, and shipping. I even added some from my own stock. My prices will be the lowest at the show and I have quite a bit of money tied up... and a big VISA bill to pay off again!
If I can sell all of this and my redundant guns, I may "retire" from selling at the local gun shows. It's fun, but when ammo and magazine stocks start normalizing, the real profits will fall drastically and volume sales with low margins will come back. I look forward to that! But for now, I have bought a lot of stuff for resale to show along with my redundant firearms. I even got a credit card reader for my smartphone so that I can accommodate those who don't carry much cash... lost only a few sales because I couldn't accept credit cards.
This is a risky endeavor and I have over $700 more in Glock magazines coming in today. I even bought a few .357 Sig mags because the price was right. That's really the first instance of my buying stuff that I can't use.
Anyhow, it will be quite an endeavor to get our ONE table set up before opening this Saturday morning. The show will be at the Prime Osborn Convention Center here in Jacksonville. I need to take some pictures of our table this time.

wyntrout

That's my wish, too, but I didn't scarf any from local shelves or suppliers. I've spent a lot of time searching for stuff online and paying $33 to $60 a brick of .22LR... or more... plus shipping. My pricing will be the lowest at the show and if I charged any less, others would scarf it up for resale.
Most people only want a few boxes and you can imagine that's not economical when buying stuff online. One brick or four cost about $17 for shipping, so I only buy when I can get enough stuff to spread the shipping costs over more items. Cabela's has very low limits on items and adding $17 for a single box of ammo, even if it's 300 or so in the box, is not a good deal. It's hard to find .22LR at less than 10 cents a round... AND in the limited quantity to make it worthwhile after shipping is added to the cost. Most people can't camp out at Walmart and wait for the "normal-priced" stuff to arrive... which is all too rare.
.22 LR is the biggest seller and amassing the 17 or so bricks pictured has taken quite a while. Gunbot was quite helpful. I used to check 20 or so online sites several times a day... to no avail. I did beat Gunbot a time or two finding stuff, but finally just started using that and checking more often. I do get emails from some suppliers, but have to ignore those as I'm not interested in cases of 9mm FMJ for $700 or more! My last purchase was two cases of Blazer Brass 124-gr FMJ for $690 including insurance and free shipping... $340 a case... or about $120 more than I used to pay for 9mm FMJ shipped to the door! I'll probably ask $22-$23 a box for small purchases.

Went to the range on Saturday with the Ruger Single Six and the Wather P22. First time to the range since the incident! Kind of weird as the place was not full like it usually is on a Saturday or Sunday. I guess ammo is still scarce for some people. However, the guy next to me must have put about 400 rounds through a Bersa 380 then proceeded to put about 200 rounds through an XDM(?).
Let a guy and his son shoot the Single Six. Son was a bit hesitant, but the Dad liked it.
Anyway, I know that I can at least still shoot these two 22s reasonably well. :)

I think it's a desert thing. You see them quite often. They can be property markers (as OldLincoln surmised), trail markers, navigation aides, mark points of interest/danger, or just because. The place where that photo was taken is at the top of a pretty steep grade and the trail/road makes a hard left there; so that pile might be a trial marker, navigation aid, warning, or just because:)

I'd like to thank you all for your comments, my wife especially liked OldLincoln's about her looking fit (she does put the effort into it). We also got a chuckle (and no offense taken) from the "Native American" comment. Though she is of Asian heritage (her folks were born in China, she was born and raised in Brooklyn,NY) it's not the first time she was thought to be Native American. Years back, I sent my brother a photo of her tkaen at the SASS End of the Trail Championship in Norco, Ca. and he asked if she was an "Indian":
http://oi41.tinypic.com/2mzleh4.jpg
She recently had a patient who thought she was Mexican and was upset because she would not speak to him in their "native" language.

I analyzed the photo again utilizing my profiling skills or lack thereof. Things of note. The background, the walking stick that could be seen as a spear, the hair tied back. It screams Indian not Brooklyn.
Also note the look on the dogs face, ya gonna throw that stick for me to chase or what?
The later photo's posted awhile back lean back towards Asia if not Brooklyn.

The new models H-D is introducing for 2014, is a look at things to come. They are switching to water cooled engines, which I've been expecting for some time. Water cooling makes it easier to meet EPA standards, get more performance. I thought they would most likely go with some variation of the V-Rod motor, but I guess they didn't want to throw out too many changes to long time riders all at once, keeping the basic Twin Cam motor, and adding water cooling. On the touring bikes they are introducing it on, you can't really tell from a distance that it's water cooled, the radiator is well hidden by the lower fairing. Now when they start introducing it in the rest of the line, the radiator isn't going be hidden as well. So we'll have to get used to that.
Colonel, they even have you covered as there is a trike in the lineup. Although, If I went with a trike, I think I'd go with one of those Can-Am brand trikes with the 2 wheels in the front. They say they handle a little better and ride a little more comfortable. than a normal trike, and I think they even have power steering so it doesn't work your arms to death. Although I've heard conflicting reports, some love then, some hate them.
That's the thing with trikes, you can't just lean into the corners, you have to steer through them. Great for building arm strength.
Some folks are experimenting with trikes that lean through corners, but nothing has hit the market yet that I know of.

The family and I are on a little vacation in Monterey and Pacific Grove. It is nice to take a break from work and enjoy some good quality family time.
I took this photo last night in Pacific Grove. It is a 30 second long exposure that turned out pretty cool. This was right out of the camera (no Photoshop work done to it).

very nice work Lorenzo. Back when I was trying to learn about photography, the long exposure/night shots were what most fascinated me. I had a Canon AE1P, several lenses, filters and other accessories ... all was stolen in 1986 during a back door kick-in style burglary.

Personally, I think she's an amazing woman of many looks;):)

Public Cell Phone Usage
After a tiring day, a commuter settled down in his seat and closed his eyes.
As the train rolled out of the station, the young woman sitting next to him
pulled out her cell phone and started talking in a loud voice, "Hi sweetheart.
It's Sue. I'm on the train". "Yes, I know it's the six thirty and not the four
thirty, but I had a long meeting."
"No, honey, not with that Kevin from the accounting office. It was with the
boss." "No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life." "Yes, I'm sure, cross my
heart!" Fifteen minutes later, she was still talking loudly.
The man sitting next to her had had enough--he leaned over and said into the
phone, "Sue, hang up the phone and come back to bed."
Sue doesn't use her cell phone in public any longer.

I know the F117 is technically considered a ground attack aircraft.
But I'm old fashioned and F means Fighter to me.
Bombers start with B in my book.
And the first stealth bomber I remember,
when I worked at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center - Edwards Air Force Base, was the B1.
Either way, I believe the B1 pre dates the F117 by several years.

Sumbitch....
A large jet plane crashed on a farm in the middle of rural Kentucky . Panic stricken, the local sheriff mobilized and descended on the farm in force.
By the time they got there, the aircraft was totally destroyed with only a burned hull left smoldering in a tree line that bordered the farm. The sheriff and his men entered the smoking mess but could find no remains of anyone. They spotted the farmer plowing a field not too far away as if nothing had happened. They hurried over to the man's tractor.
"Hank," the sheriff yelled, panting and out of breath. "Did you see this terrible accident happen?"
"Yep. Sure did," the farmer mumbled unconcerned, cutting off the tractor's engine.
"Do you realize that is Air Force One, the airplane of the President of the United States ?"
"Yep."
"Were there any survivors?"
"Nope. They's all kilt straight out," the farmer answered. "I done buried them all myself. Took me most of the morning."
"President Obama is dead?" the sheriff asked.
"Well," the farmer grumbled, restarting his tractor. "He kept a-saying he
wasn't...
But you know how bad that sumbitch lies."

Picked up the new SP101 from the gunsmith, after a good sonic cleaning, spring change, fluff and buff, and pressure oil bath. I built a reloading bench today. It's a hillbilly looking thing as I made it all from scraps I had around the garage but it's steady as a rock! Now I'm one step closer to actually reloading. I guess buying the equipment might be next.
I added a cast shim and a drop shim to my shotgun today. I found I was looking down the left side of the rib and way too high too. I was making up for it with a little Kentucky windage. Now it seems to shoulder just fine but it was too late to go out to the pattern board. Wish me luck. I had to do something. Mr. Teacup Limpwrister beat me 3 of 4 rounds last Sunday. I'm respectful of others usually but yesterday I found Golden Bullet VPs for $30 by shopping with my wife for her work when I took her to lunch at Los Arcos. Afterward we went to a disliked sporting goods store and found the .22lr $525/$30. I nearly lost all self respect as I bought 2 boxes and then when my wife checked her stuff out for work she bought 2 boxes. Still that's happy news as I haven't been able to shoot my Neos more than once in the last year.
Also happy, my daughter's car had 5 hits to buy from Craigslist.

I have been pleasantly surprised so far that the anti-gun in Washington does not seem as bad as rumored.
I purchased a gun safe and found out there is no sales tax on gun safes! That saved nearly 10%.
I walked into the County Sheriff's office, filled out a form, showed my new Washington driver's license, had my fingers printed and out the door in less than an hour. Washington concealed carry permit should show up in the mail within thirty days!
Now, waiting to see how the weather compares to the rumors!

Need to update your location there neighbor. Did you have to be here 90 days before you applied?
Heck I do the background checks for those things and I can't remember.
It's not all that bad, we're still dealing with the new law about no private transfers and how to deal with it, but nothing new there. I suspect a huge number of criminals transferring privately anyhow and I'm perfectly fine with that, I'd do it myself.
Cleaned, oiled, and packed up for the trip the 2 1/2 inch nickle Model 19-3 and an NAA Guardian I'm loaning (that only because of PA transfer regs) to my sister and her husband. Along with a supply of ammunition for both. They lost all their guns and ammo, along with everything else, when their house burned to the ground a couple/three weeks back and no self respecting, deer hunter country redneck should be without a gun. Put this in the happy stuff thread 'cause it really does make me happy to do something to help. :)

Woo Hoo, got my cartridge shaped laser bore sight to get my scope on paper yesterday. Gonna set the scope an inch or more above the laser dot at 25 yards, since the scope sits so high. And see how it works out at 100 yards. The free public range is open today, so might run out to it and finish sighting the scope in. I guess if I put the center of the groups about 3" above the bullseye, it will then be sighted in for 200 yards. I put a see thru scope mount so I can use the iron sights if needed, It has 2 more rails on the side in case I want to mount a laser and small flash light on it. That would definitely warrant one of those crazy bright 1000 lumen or more flash lights. It's already front heavy, so adding that stuff to the receiver is helping to balance it out some. Might be able to reduce the coyote population a bit with a bright enough flashlight.
The rifle and barrel are marked .223, but I kept reading DPMS chambered all their guns for 5.56 back when that gun was made, but stamped them .223 (It's been sitting in a gun safe for 14 years), so I contacted DPMS, and they verified it has the 5.56 chamber. I wasn't too worried about the gun not handling 5.56, but read that shooting 5.56 in a .223 can cause a loss of accuracy due to first part of the rifling getting eroded or something along those lines. Last thing I want is that heavy target bull barrel to lose accuracy. I don't know if all that stuff is true or not, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It seems like i remember with my AR using Iron sights that a 50 yrd. Zero = 200 yard zero. Seems like it was about 1 to 1.5 inches high at 100. My scope is about the same height as my irons. But if your scope sits a bit higher your mileage may vary.
