View Full Version : Timing is Everything ... Take 2

Downtowntv just posted a thread with the title "Timing is Everything". I was going to post what I'm about to say on that, but then after reading it I realized it didn't belong there.
Anyway, last week I was riding with a friend out to Cape Cod for a few days off. While he was driving I was perusing Armslist, and came across an unbelievable deal ...
Some girl out in Ohio was selling a PM9 Black with night sights and a CT laser and 3 mags and a holster for $600. I did not need the gun which is why I waited about two hours. But once we got to the Cape I decided to log online and go ahead and buy it. I figured that at the very least I could sell my CM9 which also has a CT laser and end up with a PM9 Black with CT laser for almost the same amount of money.
But as it turns out in the two hours it took me to make up my mind, somebody else got to it before me. The girl told me that I was next in line if the deal fell through ... it didn't.
Moral of the story ... he who hesitates is lost.

I think we've all been there. If it seems like a really good deal we're conditioned to question if it really is.
Usually it's directly related to weather you buy or not. If you buy, you were wrong, if you don't buy its worth triple asking price.

In somewhat of a similar position at the moment. We have a PM45 for sell at $600 currently, used of course. Most folks around here don't know about Kahrs. I am so tempted but I really don't NEED it.
I do want it, though.
If I can hold out a bit longer, and it stays in the case I'll get a pretty decent discount. If it lasts that long, I'll probably get it. I've been bitten by this waiting before.
Then, of course, I will have to hide it from the wife and somehow make sure she doesn't see the money disappear from the bank account. This will be the easy part.
I think.

Same thing happened a few days ago. Saw a really nice Beretta 70s, .22lr on Gunbroker for a buy now of $350. I hesitated. ARRGGGHHH!

That's true RevRay, but fools rush in where angles fear to tread and all good things come to those who wait. Confusing ain't it? Life is never easy. Let a smile be your umbrella and you'll end up all wet. :)

Unfortunately Ray It does happen. You snooze you loose.:( I've also had a few get away, but on the other side of the coin, I've had a few that didn't and are now part of my collection.:D

You guys are right on ... I already posted elsewhere how thrilled I was to finally find my MK9 Duo Tone with 3 mags for only $380. So I suppose I shouldn't be too forlorn over the fact that things don't always work out perfectly. You would think that as a minister I would have learned that lesson by now ... duh!

I try to look at it this way Ray, in the words of my dear departed Granny.
"Be glad and grateful for what you have, and for what don't have. If it's meant to be it will be, if it's not meant to be it won't be ". Took a little liven to understand and gradually except what that meant but it finally worked it's way through this thick scull of mine. ;)
When it's all said and done how important is it anyway.:D

I sell cars for a living, also buy them at auction. Many times over the years I have missed a great buy on a car at auction, and have beat my self up over it. After this happened several times my father gave me some words of wisdom that I have never forgotten.
" Don't worry, there will ALWAYS be something else to buy. "

A couple of months ago, before supply had caught up with demand on AR stuff, I was on the notification list from MidwayUSA. Several times it was understandable that once I was notified and several hours before I got onto the computer, they would be sold out when I went to the link. One day I was actually on when the notice came through! Yeehah! I was online, hit buy it now, and by the time I got my credit card out and entered, they were out again! Yikes!

I found a Walther PPK .32 on some gun list. Crappy picture. $350. Couldn't read the slide. But, I was pretty sure. I called and said I'll take it AND clicked the buy it button. Wired the money in the next 20 minutes. As soon as I sent the money, I called to make sure he got it. He mentioned quite a few other people had emailed him about it, asking questions.
Yes, it was a real 1965 German PPK. German Police trade in. About 98% condition.

Good for you ... one that didn't get away.
One thing I hadn't thought of until just now is that somewhere out there ... or maybe even right here in KahrTalk-land ... is the other guy who got the deal that got away from me. So if you're reading this and you got the great PM9 Black with CT Laser deal, congratulations ... and let us know what you think of it.
