Ok this is the question:

Who has the best stippling for a pm9? I have used Robar so if you have had work done on yours offer up some feedback please.

If you have pics please post. Much thanks all. :amflag:

Do it yourself, it's not difficult to do. I did my Glock G17 today.

While none of the gallery work is done on a Kahr product, you might want to peruse this fella's website http://www.weaponworx.com/
I haven't had any work done by him myself, but I have seen some of his work in person and it was very well done.

Greg

Much thanks Greg. I will take a look.

And that Glock looks great. Always worried about the texture of some stippling jobs. Never want to be so ruffffffff that it grasp the shirt.

What kind of tool did you use to stipple your grip? I hate to ask because i may just do it.

Most people use soldering iron with a fine pointed tip.

PMJ9 stipple job is certainly not a nice thing to look at but it is totally functional. Stipplying will IMO never help to increase a gun in vbalue or help to resell it either. U do it because u want that different feel and also some actual grip reduction that can be done at the same time. Just my 21 cents..

I would say if ur after looks then pursue a stippler that has done hundreds of them. Ur first adventure willnot be one u are proud of if it is looks ur after. Course there are exceptions tothe rule to. Just sayin.:Amflag2:

I'm not brave and I know it :o. Won't do it on my own gun as I like my pm9 too much. My 1st post just a few weeks ago is an example of work I've had done on my cw9 by Robar. It is a great carry gun. Much like the custom pm9 you have posted I'm searching for some ideas for this new possible pocket gun project. Half the fun is sharing and seeing what others have done. And thanks for the feedback!

Side joke magt, Mr. Spock does that when he has all the crystals stuffed up his nose.

Stippling is not rocket science and a wood burning pen is all a person needs.

Contrary to what Jocko said I was quite proud of my first effort on my PM45.
It's also very forgiving, if you find the texture too course, just go over it again with more little pen polks in between. If it's too fine make some of the pokes a little deeper or more pronounced.

Nothing has to be uniform, there really need not be any rhyme or reason, just start poking.

I'll try to find a picture of mine.

That's a great idea, maybe I'll try to etch it into a 46, that will raise some eyebrows.

I can just see the phone calls to Kahr now. Dude, I want one of them 46's like bawanna has, I know they exist I seen it on the internet. Don't lie to me. I want one.

And then the followup at the local gun shops. I need some 46 ammo. Sir it don't exist. Stop lying and get me some........

I gotta make this happen.

What kind of tool did you use to stipple your grip? I hate to ask because i may just do it.

I just use a soldering iron with a rounded tip and lightly touch the plastic. I do it in sections and blend them together. I use a grease pencil to outline the area then do that part first, then go to work on the rest. it only takes a very light touch to make the impression. Afterwards, I use a scotch brite wheel on my drill press to smooth it out so it doesn't bite but still offers a good grip. I will post pictures later of the process and tools used.

I actually just put a flat blade tip, usually they have a bit of an angle to them but they come with most soldering irons.
I just took the flat tip and kind of melted down the offending cheese grater, kind of flattened and smoothed with heat.

Didn't even sand or grind, just stippled over the top and it all came out nice and uniform.

I think the soldering pen heating up was the longest part of the job.
It's been a bit but I don't think I spent more than 20 or 30 minutes total on that project.

If I was to do another it would be even faster since I know what to expect.

When I did my CM9, I just blended the 'knobs" in as I was doing the stippling. I didn't try to eliminate them completely, but rather incorporate them into the pattern;

I actually did that the first time around too but I didn't get a nice a result as you did and I found it still a little too much cheese grater, so I went back and did the melt and restipple

Jocko, there's a difference between bragging and tooting your own horn.

I don't cotton much to bragging but I do have a tendency to toot my own horn from time to time, ok all the time, ok maybe I do brag from time to time.

I need to go take picture of the handles I made for my new knife and toot my horn a little more.

You need 30 post to post pictures directly. I generally use Photobucket anyhow since I spent 3 years as an intern with Old Lincoln teaching me how to post my own pictures. I still owe him for tuition and 6 quarters of lessons.

Here's some brag/tootin photo's of some knife handles I made Friday while home watching the Mrs. who continues to improve but still sore and slow moving after her poor dismount off the pony.

This is Green/Black dyed Box Elder Burl. The stock handles in front. They felt very very nice out of the box but I'm a wood guy.
More on these knives later.

It is all about the texturrrr on the stippple. I have the cw9 u c in the post and no issue. I have seen and felt some that are a bit raw. Would not want on my skin.

I didn't think I would like the Talon Rubber gip as much as I do. When fitted and then warmed up with a hair dryer the grab the factory grip a bit and this comes through the rubber just a little. Is a great alternative. :)

Meh. It's easy. The first cple pokes with a soldering iron are the hardest. Then your committed.
Practice on a piece of thick plastic.

Bawanna
08-09-2013, 12:38 PM
That's exactly right, once you get a few pokes under your belt there will be no holding you back. The hard part if stopping. You'll want to stipple everything in the house, shop, workplace, anything that will melt, gets stippled.

Nah. I've never done it before either. But it sounds pretty simple. I think I am gonna stipple me cell phone case on the sides. Ill post up a pict when I ever I get around to it.
Crap I just realized I had tossed my old pen style solder iron and got a gun type one. It doesn't have a pointy tip.

Bawanna
08-09-2013, 02:10 PM
The pen type is the way to go, think mine was less than 10 bucks at a big box hardware store. Usually they have an assortment of tips. I used mostly the smallest round tip but the larger one a little bit too.
Even the one with kind of an angled knife edge would work fine too.
I used it to melt down the offending cheese graters on the front and back strap, then came back with the small round.

It only takes a poke or two to get a feel for how long and how deep you want to melt. It's really really fast. Just poke little spots right next to each other. If it feel too course go back and poke in between the previous pokes so it's a little finer, if not course enough use the bigger tip or the same tip and just make deeper pokes every so often.

I didn't think about the plastic dog bone, I'll have to look for that tonight.
Already eyeballing the cell phone case too, that might be kind of cool too.

Took some real dedicated effort to do that poorly. Doubt it could even be duplicated. Maybe he used an acetylene torch?

Looking again it looks like they just kind of smeared, didn't lift the wood burner.
What you want is a million little pokes rather than just dragging the burner across the surface.

To knock down the cheese grater on the front and back strap the smearing program works well. After that just start poking.

It goes very quickly, each poke is just a touch and go, really fast. You'll be amazed.
