Up and Running:
So it all started like this: With the current crop of micro 9mm that have been out as of late, I have been looking for the one that would replace a great gun, the Ruger LCP.
This Ruger has been my BUG for some time now and withaddition of a set of sights from INNOVATIVE ARMS (The sight upgrade includes a front Trijicon night sight, their custom built plain notch rear sight with cocking serrations, installation and slide refinishing in Satin Black Resin. www.innovativearms.com (http://www.innovativearms.com/) ) this pistolhas proven to be a great BUG. Reliable, accurate, and compact, the LCP has only one shortcoming, caliber. A 380 comes up short in the power department.
Now before you go off on your soap-box about the 9×17mm, be sure that I understand the contemporary bullets configuration and terminal ballistic results that have brought the “9 mm Browning corto” a long, long way from its originins in 1908. :behindsofa:
The truth is you can only putso much pop in the poop of a short 9mm. And NO I don’t want to be shoot by one even in the leg. :(
My goal is to have one caliber and that diameter should be as large as it can be while still being reliable, accurate and still preserving the BUG concept. Keep in mind that a BUG in my world, will also be used as an Off Duty Gun.
My search took me to a lot of places, some great (the current9mm Shield I have on right now) and some not so fun. (a Springfield XDs in 45ACP that went click often when it should have gone BOOM!) . I loved my Glock 26 and still do but it is a block.
With the help of Kahr Talk I started my review of the PM9 again. I looked at the it once but at that time it was a newer mini so I thought best to let it flush out a bit.
Having worked with a Kahr CW9 and liked it enough to send it to Robar (see post: “Robar Custom Job: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20132 (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20132))I started my hunt for a PM9. In the "Great Socialist State of Kaliefornia" we still have some guns left and a fine forum for us on the dark side of the coast is Calguns.net. It was from this I found a nice used Pm9-Blackened Stainless. California Price came to $660.00. That came with a total of 6 magazines, three short, three long. Also got a De Santis pocket holster.
Today was rounds down range :D and with lots of exultation I must report I could not get this PM9 to jam. I tried. I did-I did. Limp wrist, not much oil, +p rounds, sling shot…did not matter the gun went bang for 100 rounds without any issues. Shot 115grn ball,124 grn ball and Winchester Rancher T-Series 124+ HP. Shot at 15 yards, 10 yards, and 5 yards. Shot with 6 round factory and 7 round factory mags. Shot with one in the pipe and a fully loaded magazine and shot with a sling shot from the loaded magazine alone….NEVER HAD AN ISSUE OF ANY KIND. WAS GREAT FUN AND ON THE SPOT.
So what did I do to make sure this pistol worked? Well I took the advice of b4uqzme, Bawannaand and jacko. I cleaned the crap out of the gun, I put oil in the spots recommended (not as much as some would say you have to), I read the manual, and oh yea, I applied good old fashion common sense. This pistol is good to go. :Amflag2:
Maybe it was buying it used, maybe someone else had to spend a few hundred bucks in ammo to break this gun, maybe it was just God looking down and saying that old man gets himself a fine gun -no matter, this is a fantastic pistol and shoots “Nuts on.” I LIKE IT! Light, Flat, and hold to point of aim with the factory sights when I do my part.
I added a set of Talon grips to help with the cheezzzz grader grip bite. Maybe in the days to come I will stipple the grip like we have talked about in my other posts (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20206 (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20206)). Maybe New Sights that I can see better? Not sure.??? Old Eyes....how about those XSBig Dots guys????
Photos are the pocket rig it came with. Started packing again off the job as things are getting odd in the world.
Thanks to all you who have advice and arelooking out for us newer Karh Talk guys. It will be fun to see what comes this fine BUG. :D
If anyone has suggestions about what can be done to racethis BUG up some please share!
