View Full Version : CM9 in Deep South Summer

I bought my new CM9 in November of last year, and I've been carrying it in an IWB Don Hume PCCH holster during these hot humid summer months.

Although the holster has a guard to keep the slide away from my skin, the polymer grip frame is in direct contact and is wet with perspiration when I un-holster the pistol.

I wipe it dry frequently, but still I wonder about some of the moisture migrating into the mag well and whether the ammo and magazine components (mag body, springs, etc.) might be affected by this moisture.

I know this might be a goofy question, but I really don't know much about the CM9's resistance to daily exposure to humidity, and what I might need to be doing (from a maintenance standpoint) to keep the gun and ammo in good operating condition.

I could probably avoid the whole issue by pocket-carrying the pistol, but I really want to have access to the gun without fiddling around trying to get the CM9 out of a pocket.

Thanks.

Just wipe things down from time to time, wax or oil the mag, clean a bit more frequently during the hot times in the south (that's most of the times ain't it?).

Keep the mag release lubed and all should be fine.
I agree on the holster carry rather than the pocket carry. Never appealed to me.

Do NOT oil the mags!
Oil inside the mag turns out to be a major culprit in Premature Slide Lock, a problem on many Kahr guns. Use a solvent on the inside of the mags to keep they oil free.

That being said, I carried a G26 for many many years IWB in the summer. Some days, after working out in the sun on the bike, the gun would come out soaking wet.

Never had any moisture in the mag or on the ammo. Only on the slide. Maybe on the grip, but plastic does not rust.

Just wipe it down and don't worry about it.

guys are telling u is the best way to protect ur mags. Lets face it if u in an area of high humidity or moisture or ur doin alot of bodyt sweeting, then u nee dto be more watchful than one living in alaska. Not the guns fault.

I do not oil my mags PERIOD, but I do whenI take um apart to inspect and clean them spray the spring itself with Remington dry lube spray. It just doesn't run. does it do any good?? HELL i DON'T KNOW but my mags don't give me any issues, so what isnot broke I don't fix. I do run one of the silicone gun/reel cloths down the entire insdie ofthe magazine tube to clean it and I am sure some of the silicone protection touches the inside of the magazine. As far as the outside, Wax is good, it seems to help mags dropping to, but also just a wipe down with a silicone cloth will protect them from rust with again no oily buildup....

Ur kahr magazine tube is stainless, ur wolffs magazine spring is not stainless..

Thanks for all your replies. I guess I've just been worrying about stuff that I heard about years ago...that semi-autos needed a lot more up-keep to keep them reliable, unlike most revolvers.

Especially when gun makers started pushing the envelopes in engineering and physics to make these pistols as small as they now are, and still have them reliable.

I'll just field-strip the pistol a little more often, and use a dry lube like Hornady's One Shot or silicone cloths to protect the parts that I can get at.

And as long as the CM9 keeps running, I'll quit worrying about this stuff.

Thanks again.

Simonize offers some of the best protection from rust. You can seal your primers with nail polish, but not the hot pink metal flake nail polish that Jocko uses.
