View Full Version : Barrel swap 4" TP45 for a CW 45 3 1/2 "
Is it possible to drop-in a 4" TP .45 barrel in a CW45? Some reports say that a 3 1/2 inch barrel length in a 45 acp is a little iffy when it comes to bullet expansion. I like the shorter CW grip for carry.
the frame is basically the same on the older TP and the P, with newer TPs haveing a longer grip. You can put a TP top end on a P... this has been done. The P and the CW are the same exact frame and bottom end.
Depends on the front of the slide, if you can get that half inch of barrel though the front enough to let the back get pushed down into the slide. That feat is not possible on my PM45 but it could be that there's enough clearance on the longer P (CW) size slide.
I'm sure others will have more to say.....

Do it!!!!!
Find someone with one and try it out!
I wood love to have a 4" barrel on my CW!!!!
Thanks for the insight. Always great info on the Kahr forums. Will keep forum updated.
According to Jay at Kahr , Barrels are not interchangeable and neither is the complete slide and barrel assembly from a TP45 to a CW45

If you want the shorter P grip length you could also cut down the tp grip. Someone here has done it. I though I saw phots but can't find any. There was a tread back a 1year or more ago on it. I have learned to like the new long TP grip and CC one daily now in a iwb 2:00 carry I swapped the metal plate and plastic on the mags from my cm9 to the to. Trims grip length a little bit.
Photo of my tp40 in a rearward cant holster I wear at a 2:10 postion and my wifes bersa 380cc.

Which holster do you find the best for non- printing of the grip? I can see a disadvantage (femoral artery) to the appendix carry, so what are your thoughts on rearward cant appendix 2:00 vs 3:00 positions?

Guess I have not put that much thought into it !! With my shorter grip cw9 the comp-tac minotaur neutral is the best. It allows me to tuck in a shirt in a 2:15 postion with a bit of rearward cant and its gone for the average novice or non cc'er. I assume a cc'er would pick it up. I adjust that holster high enough to be able to sit and drive but the longer tp is to much for it , or for me in that position so a black hawk leather was used for the tp before the nelson holster.
Since I decide to try owb carry hideing the grip was the main reason to try this set up as the grip is parallel to your belt so it just blends in. The holster maker added a flap that runs on the rear of the holster high on the holsters body and will run down to just below your belt on the inside of your pants so when the flap is Locking the holster to your body and will not let it lay away from you over time.

Dealing with the fermoral artery to me is not non issue as the pistol is not going to shoot by itself and with 27 years of carry'n a handgun and even many more hunting with them trigger control against my body is not a concern. Now if it was a 191??? I think other than CC'n in a front pocket my other prime position for 27 years has been at a 2:00 to 3:00 position in or out of the waist. When ever I re-holster a handgun its a slower control and watched motion, never like you see some TV experts do with a fast no look re-holstering. I did not plane on being able to CC my 5.25" high TP40 in this holster as it was made for my cw9. But it works so well.
Guys wear shoulder rigs with barrels pointing behind them or into there arm pits, behind the back rigs that lay the gun down sideways or these underwear holster that can shot off your ,a, well. Guess carry'n in many holsters is so much more about finger control and using a handgun in a correct manner.
Thanks for the thoughtful helpful reply. I was looking for a way to carry while being a passenger in a car.

This set up works well for me driving & sitting. But for the mainly drivers only needs you want a drivers cross draw. Might not find many that make for a tp series kahrs but my 1911 works in my kahr holsters too and may forward cant holster I bopught to try out is a 1911 holster and works fine with the TP40 so might work the other way around with most.
