Went over to my favorite Gun Shop this morning to stop by my favorite used gun cabinet to see what was available. I took one of my CZ's (75B) with me just in case there was something I could just not do without to trade to sweeten the pot. I haven't been shooting it as much since I got my CZ PO-1, and you guys know me, if it doesn't get shot it's gone for something I will shoot. Well sure enough there it was one of the pistols that has been on my wish list for quite some time but could never find one New or Used.
After taking a second look just to make sure my eyes weren't playing games on me. I asked the guy behind the counter to let me see it, still not believing my eyes, I had to hold it in my hand to make sure I was not dreaming. Ruger SR1911 in outstanding LNIB condition. with one 7 round Ruger flush Mag and one Wilson Combat mag. Which turned out to be a 9mm mag and will have to go back to the GS tomorrow. After I go to the range of course. :D I'm ecstatic about this find and it is probably the only pistol I would have traded my CZ75b for in this price range. Now for a good cleaning and lubing and it will be ready to go kill some silhouette men.:D Now my RIA Gi 1911 has a new friend to shoot with.

Great find! Your gonna love it. It's a great value 1911. We were seeing them a little more and now they seem to not be around as much. Not sure what the heck is going on.

I can see some pretty wood in your future. Maybe I'm psychic?

Thanks Colonel. Maybe later on, on the wood. I need to shoot the hell out of the thing first to make sure it's a keeper. Pretty don't mean nothing if it's not reliable. For the life of me I can't understand why people buy these guns and shoot only a few rounds through them and trade them back in. Sure makes me wonder if I bought a problem child though. So far every used Pistol / Rifle I've bought has been fine and shot like new but I'm sure that going to bite me in the ass one day. I sure hope this isn't that day because I really like the looks and feel of the SR1911. It seems to hand cycle the rounds like it should, but tomorrow will tell.

I think a lot of folks buy them based on people that talk them up and little else.

They get it and then that hammer back carry and size and everything else kind of scares them off.

Good for us who want them, love them and use them every day.

Mine hasn't had a glitch at all. Runs well with my preferred Wilson mags. I think it'll run with the big boys without question.

Pretty and Looking Cool are top priority items though. Stuff don't have to be ugly to run like a swiss car. Not ever.

Honest wear and signs of use can be beautiful, that's not what I mean.
Focus on looking cool and everything else will take care of itself.

I'm pickin up on what your putting down Colonel. 1911's are a whole different mindset when compared to most of todays pistols and sometimes people do not seem to do there homework and what is involved in owning a 1911.
I'm hoping that's the case here and not a problem with the pistol. Visually everything looks like brand new with the exception of a little gun powder residue in the chamber. If this Ruger shoots as good, and as reliable as my Rock Island I'll be more than just stoked. One of the things I liked about the RUGER SR1911 and the RIA GI 1911 is that they both have a 70 series slide, (no firing pin block safety)which makes for one fantastic trigger. Now I'm off to read the manual to see if I can learn something new.;)

Great find! Ruger 1911 has the rep of everything you need and nothing you don't. Just bought one $650 which I thought was a great deal. Haven't shot her yet. Practice ammo impossible to find. But sure looks real purdy next to my Kahr CW45.

Oh yeah, I forgot I have two of those in the garage. A red one and a blue one depending on my mood for the day.

I drive the van so much I sometimes forget they are in there.

They are wicked quick on trips to the gun store though.

As fond as I am of CZ's I have to say that was a good trade. A Remington R1 Carry is the next gun on my horizon, but unfortunately it will have to wait until December. Nice pickup.

Thanks Guys, I'll be going to the range this morning after I have breakfast with some biker friends of mine. It's pouring out there this morning so It looks like the Harley is garage bound for today. I'll give a range report when I get back.
It did hurt to trade one of my prized CZ's for it, but I have three and I've really been looking for a SR1911 for quite some time, and I knew if I didn't jump on it right away it would more then likely not be there if I snoozed on it. The only other gun that I would have traded my CZ75B for would have been a CZ PCR.
I'm kind of pissed at myself for not seeing that the Wilson Combat mag was for a 9mm and not a 45 cal.:o What got me is it fit perfectly in the pistol. I'm sure they'll make good on it though, as there good people over there, but I'll have to make sure I stay away from the used gun cabinet or who knows what will happen.

I have a hankering for a Remington too. Hit me when I saw Greg's with that big beautiful wide spur hammer he hung on his. I just love those.

Course I have a hankering for a CZ also and you guys with multiples are trading them off, I must be behind the curve.

Greg sent me a link to a fella that bobtailed his SR1911. I had thought of that myself numerous times, thought I'd be the first. Now I guess there's no hurry and I'm fighting the urge. It's pretty durn nice the way it is.
First one turned out perfect, if I screw this one up my score drops to 50%. How could I live with myself ya know.

I hit the range first thing this morning after breakfast of course. Gotta eat, other wise I can't hit the broad side of barn from the inside., much less a target with a pistol at ten yds.
First I shot 50 rounds through the XDS9. It's still 100% reliable. I'm liking that pistol more all the time. Then shot another 50 rounds through the 22/45, just to get myself settled in and my game face on before shooting the SR1911.
I had six fully loaded mags. One Wilson combat, One ACT MAG. that came with the Rock 1911., One Ruger mag and three El Cheapo no name mags a friend gave me a while back. Shooting Federal FMJ 100 count value pack ammo in a 1911 can be a bit of a cluster fv(k. I had three FTF and a couple of stove pipes using that ammo today. The ones that failed to feed I noticed the bullet set to far back in the casing. I Think it was when the slide tried to load the round into the chamber the Recoil spring is just to much for it to handle and pushes the bullet back into the casing a little. The recoil spring in my RIA 1911 is not as stiff so I'll just chalk that up as being new. I tried some Hornady Critical Duty and Remington HP's gold dot and everything was fine with them except for when I loaded them in one of the El Cheapo mags. None of this really surprised me with the cheap mags. I shot a total of 100 rounds today with it. As for accuracy the SR1911 is about right on par with any other 1911 I've shot in it's price range. I love the Novak's sight on it. I would guess the trigger pull is somewhere between 4 and 5 lbs and is fantastic IMO. I finished off my day by shooting two Full mags through my Kel Tec P3at and that is still a reliable CC piece but it sucks to shoot it. Then I put another 50 rounds through the XDS9. So far I like the SR1911 but I'm certainly not ready to put it on my hip as of yet or to say it's a keeper. I brought it home and cleaned it again and will probably take it out again next week if not sooner, hopefully with some different and higher quality ammo and only using the higher quality mags. After I got done shooting I went back to the GS where I bought the Ruger and they swapped out the 9mm Mag. for a Chip Mc Cormick 45 caliber mag.

Nothing prettier than a pile of Wilson mags lined up from here to the horizon. The Chip McCormicks are good mags but I stick with Wilson.

The factory Ruger mag is good too, never a problem with it although I rarely use it.

Popeye
08-13-2013, 02:52 PM
Agree Colonel. Love the Wilson CB mags. I haven't tried the Mc Cormick mag yet. I do like that it finishes off flush with the grip on the bottom. Next time I'm over the GS where I bough it I'll pick up another one or two WCB mags. I've never had a problem with the ACT Mag. in either 1911. The no name mags I just use at the range as they seem to work pretty well in the Rock. I'm also thinking the cheaper ammo is not strong enough to send the slide all the way to the rear on the Ruger and that's the reason for a couple of the stovepipes. The round in the mags when that happened never came out of the mags. Which kind of tells me it short cycled the slide. If it keeps up I might switch the Recoil springs from the Rock to the Ruger and see how that all plays out as it is stiff.

I just recently quit smoking, and I am putting the money saved in the gun fund. Not long after the turkeys are carved I'll be taking one of these home with me...

That's real pretty! I want the plain one with no beavertail probably in stainless so I can hang that much desired wide spur hammer on it.

I had a hardly used one in my hand a couple months back. Should have bought it, took my beating and had it in my hand. I'm such a coward sometimes.

I've almost bought more guns than I can count. Hindsight sees pretty good, but opportunity often knocks more than once. Its when it beats your door down you gotta open up. I think I read that on a fortune cookie once.

The R1 is a nice looking pistol for sure. For some reason I just have not done to much reading on them, so I don't know as much about them as I do the Ruger SR1911. Hickcock45's review of the SR pretty much got me interested in the Ruger SR1911. It is the only SS finish pistol I've owned in quite some time. As mentioned when opportunity knocked on the door for the SR1911 at that price I definitely had to answer it. After thinking things over I might be able to clear and hour or so from schedule today to go back over the range and see how it reacts to just using the good mags.

The Ruger will run with the best of them. I sure wouldn't part with it to get my Remington.

I just want both, I'm greedy and addicted and I want a Thompson Classic 1911 too. I want all of them. My only fear is there just isn't enough time.

Have to be careful of those short tailed 1911 grip safeties as the hammer will bite the hell out of you and make you do some serious bleeding if your not careful. I shot one 1911(not 1911a1) in gunnery school and that Sombitch took a chunk out of the web of my hand that had me damn near in tears. I was totally new to 1911's at the time. Actually at that time I was fairly new to all guns. Then one day I found myself in a gun mount on a ship shooting 5 "38's. And thought apparently the US Navy does not know that I'm just a 21 year old arsehole who just loved to make extremely loud noises with ammunition.:D

The 1911A1 addressed that with a shorter hammer spur and a longer tang on the grip safety than those found on the M1911

I have semi small hands and generally don't get bit. My HI Power bites me once in a while if I don't pay attention.

If the Remington bites me now and then it's a small price to pay for that big beautiful wide spur hammer. I take the pain and blood loss with a smile on my face and a song in my heart and a box of band aids in the glove box, or maybe range bag.
