How Much Can The CM9 Be Shot?

I have a CM9, which is my EDC, with a little over 500 rounds through it, mostly 115grFMJ.

I believe in practicing with the gun I carry, usually get to the range a few times a month, where I typically will put around 50 rounds through the gun.

My question and concern is whether I can continue to put rounds through it at the range without unduly risking a malfunction when I might need the gun to save my life.

Now, I understand that any gun can malfunction at any time, and that you increase the potential for any gun breaking the more rounds you put through it.

What I would appreciate is some feedback on the experiences of folks who have a CM9, and whether you believe my concern is valid.

i have the cm9. i put 1,500 flawless rds through it. then the gun started having problems. eventually i sent it into kahr 3 times and they replaced the barrel the frame and the recoil spring assembly.

I have 750rds through her now no troubles. Is 1,500rds the magic # for a rebuild i don't know. but it was for my gun.

Your not gonna wear it out. Might have to replace the recoil spring from time to time (very rarely) but you will not wear the gun out.

I've often thought what a man I'd be if I totally shot out and wore out a gun. I don't think it's gonna happen.

Jocko's got 30,000 plus thru his PM9, basically the same gun.

Go forth and shoot, nothing to worry about.

Any gun can malfunction at any time. If you're a worry wart like me carry a P380 in your pocket as a back-up. Carry a knife in case you run out of boolits. That should cover you. :)

I have right at 1500 rounds thru my cm9 and it still looks like new. Still a pain to rack but racks like any smooth slick pistol should and reliable as heck. Don't see any reason to think it will need anything so long as you replace the recoil spring every 1000 rounds and keep it reasonably clean and lubed.

I would recommend...

Test you're carry ammo.
Clean and lube after every range trip or every 2 weeks...whichever comes first.
Clean out the striker channel at least once.
Change the recoil spring every 1500 rounds.

what Rubb says is just damn good common sense. My PMJ9 internally looks new, not a wear spot anywhere, recoils springs are made to b e replaced in all SEMI'S.

Ihave a 77 year old vintage Rolex that I bought from an ol lady and then sent it in to be serviced by Rolex, they told me the internals of the watch was as good as the day it was made. I had to replace the crystal, but that is like recoil springs on a gun, We worry to much about shooting out a gun, I have never seen one ever shot out,
Shoot the fokker like u stole it and cross the next bridge when u come to it..... Just sayin

whereto buy um :

go to wolffs gunsprings.com and order the PM9 recoil springs. Theyt are the same for ur cm9. Order the factory weight listed. All u need to replace is the outter reecoil spring.U do not need the entire assembly. So my advice is order a 3 pak and you good to go a long time. While ur orderinbg, order a 3 pak of 6 round magazine springs for ur cm9. they are the same as the pm9. :Amflag2:

I've put at least 3,000 rounds through my CM9 in the past 18 months and it is running fine. Haven't changed the recoil spring, though I probably will soon, just to ensure it is tip-top.

I clean and lube after every trip to the range.

Factory spring is 18# Wolffs order # 52818 (buy a 3 pak)
X-Power springs 20.5# # 52820 buy one and try it.
5# striker spring wolffs #32320 (this makes a nice trigger poundage pull change but doesnt uset the trigger travel and no light strikes from it. drops right in the slide with zeor mods.

5% more power mag springs for 6 round mag # 79303 buy a 3 pak, changte not very often but nice to have around. they usually don't wear out,but cost is low to have um around.

U save alot this way in the shipping charges buy combining ..:Amflag2:

I have put many thousands of rounds through my PM40. I know the thread is about a CW, but thought I'd comment anyway. I have the original parts on my sweatheart. Shoot that CW till the cows come home. I appreciate your question, but I suggest that you simply have fun with it and quit the worry. If you are only shooting a couple hundred rounds a month, it will out live you. If you are worried about the spring, get a backup spring to have on hand. Like anything, keep it maintained and it will serve you well. Leave it cruddy and it may not. If you are not already, Get reloading for it and you will shoot it more. JMO.
