So i went to a new range today and while i was there i figured i might as well take a shooting lesson since i have never properly been trained in firing a handgun. I thought i was pretty decent before at keeping a group in about 2-3 inches. The instructor tought me the proper way to hold the pistol and what a difference it makes. I know most of you are probably laughing right now but at least i'm admitting it. My grouping ended up being 1-2 inches at fifteen feet. However has anyone had trouble with the slide release cutting there right thumb. I've seen threads about grinding the slide release, i think i will end up trying this. I had a couple times when the slide did not stay open after the last round was fired. Other than that it was a great session and i signed up to take a survival combat class next month. I'm starting to ramble to i'll talk to you guys and gals later.

Why not take a defensive handgun course with your wife out in Las Vegas at Frontsight. Well worth it and you will be tired enough in the evenings that you won't feel like gambling.

I ground my slide stop, and what a difference. I also polished it too, now I get to do the rest of pistol with a polish job... Good for taking it upon yourself and for LISTENING. Kudos again.

If u got a dremel, tool it is a no brainer to contour your slide stop lever to what ever size flaots your boat. YOu can polish it to a mirror finish or also take some cold blue and blue it. I even on my PM9 modified the right side of that slide stop pin so that it is flush with the right side. Looks like a take down pin. I can still with my fingers pull the slide stop out easily. I hated that protruding part of the slide stop sticking out on the right side. served to me no pupose. The worst thing you can do it ruin the slide stop lever and u just buy another one. Kinda hard to ruin it though..

Well said jocko, that is exactly what I did, I put a polish on it, and it feels SO much better now. I thought about buling it, but decided not too, besides I like shiny.

Jocko, what Dremel attachments work the best for this?

Used a course grind stone (round tops), and worked my way through the grits. A light touch is a must. When I ran out of stones, I moved to the polishing stones and then to Rouge. It came out pretty well I thought.

just put on the sanding drum and sanded the contour that I wanted. It takes maybe 5 minutes to contour the slide stop. If you see the slide stop lever on my custom PM9 in the kahr tech section on I think page 3, it shows my contoured slide stop. That took me maybe 5 minutes. I would guess it is 1/3 less in size than orignally. I thhnk just polished it, as it is stainless and then I cold blued the right side where the pin comes flush with the grip side and it looks like a take down pin.

Those dremel sanding drums that I have are one peace, use um up thrown the entire mandrel and drum away.... I would thinmk stones would be alot slower and no different results. Never messed with stones when I have my trusty dremel...

Getting some official shooting lessons is on my short list and I commend you for getting advanced training. I love guns, handguns specifically, but the only knowledge I have has been through my own research. I welcome any and all opportunities to learn more from those who have been there.

I would recommend the 4 day defensive handgun course at Frontsight. You will be amazed at how much you will learn there. I wound up shooting around 1000 rounds for the four days and you will be either in class or on the range for 12 hours a day. I used my Glock 19 and had six magazines with 15 rounds each. If you use a Kahr you probably will shoot a bit less as reloading the magazines takes time and takes you out of the particular exercise as things move quickly. I shipped my own ammo - much cheaper than buying from FS. If you ned more particulars PM me or just go to the frontsight website.
