The MK9 Birdsong below has been stuck at $366 on Gunbroker for a while now with only about 5 hours to go.
But if I did rescue it, what could I do with it? How could it's disability ever be mended? I suppose I could try to do a transplant, but does Kahr sell frames? I looked on their website and I didn't see where they did. I thought about maybe filling in the offending parts with some kind of filler (I have no idea what exactly), and then putting a Hogue grip on it to cover its shame. Is there someplace or someone anybody knows who could actually restore it to its original condition? What some people do to their guns is truly disgusting.

karh willnot sellu a frame. PERIOD. being it is serial numered they just won't or cnnot do it. If it was me I would pass on it if at all possable unless that isur bid. It certainly IMO is butt ugly... Makes u wonder what one might have done internally to it also..

It's not appealing to the eye but it might feel real good in hand. No way of knowing until you hold it.
A person could grind off the texture but returning to it's original state would be challenging.
A new frame would not be economically feasible I don't think. Could be wrong.

I'd Pass, to me its only a good deal if u don'thve to dig deeper tomake it what u want. the hack job on that gun is siply outstanding. Just sayin
MY PMJ9 looks like a POS also but it is not for sale and if it was, I would suffer for what I did to it. So If you gonna want it simply for carry and could care what I or utters think, then buy it for that price and just do nuttin to it. No one is gonna see it but you (hopefully) No one has seen my pMJ9, not that I am ashamed ofit but simply because no one knows I carry or have it. this MK could be the same thing. COVERT in this case would certainly have some meaning.
I still think I would pas son it and I still think it is totally butt uygly. course some people accept butt ugly. i. e. Pegosie's husband Einsteins's husband. Michell's husband, Oprah mom and dad and on and on and on.
Weiner's wife and vice versa. (both in this case are butt ugly)_:Amflag2:

I think that a good welder could build up the undercut areas. The front strap could then be ground to the original configuration. It could be cost prohibitive unless you could find a gunsmith willing to take up the challenge. You know RevRay, Jocko is kinda ugly, but he does grow on people. Maybe you could just get used to it. :)

Well said Bawanna. While it's not my cup of tea, I don't think it looks that bad (certainly better to my eye than Pachmayr finger groove grips) and the custom work seems well done. I'd be tempted to buy it just for it's uniqueness. My only concern would be, that as it's a non stepped frame, what trigger bar and trigger bar spring does it use.

GB "non stepped fraoem. I don't think the MK has the Kstyle scalloped froame. Is that what ur referring to, or amI missing sumpin here? Just sayin
I think this frame has been seriously altered. Normally the MK frames have the serial number and some other bull sh!t engraving on the right side of the frame. This frame is plain janeor plain Michelle to me I now wonder where in the hell the serial number is at on this gun. OR how fokking old is it even.
No MK that I have seen has been plain on the right side,, normally Kahr arms and address is stamped on the left side of the frame. sumpin smells here..

Don't do it. If it was around 250 I would probably say jump on it. I have to say it is one ugly sumbitch. If the slide was blasted it would probably look a little better, maybe even even out the finger grooves a little. This thing will probably have problems like a ol' ragged out 1990 Camaro.

You are quite right sir, I was thinking of the "K" series vice the "MK". Thanks for pointing that out.

The more I look at that the less ugly it gets. It's actually starting to look very slightly mind ya appealing.
I think the transition on the sides going from smooth to stippled takes away from the looks.
I would not buy with the intention of trying to bring it back to original but I might just cause it's different.
I'd prefer much less cost involved but a half man's gotta do what a half man's gotta do, ya know?

Thanks guys ... I appreciate your input. There have been five bidders (none of them me), so obviously somebody wants it. Better to let it go to a home where it's wanted, then buy it and wish I hadn't.

IMO, Smart move Ray. With him doing a butcher job on the frame the way he did you never know what else he butchered up. I just can't believe someone would take a fine looking pistol with already great ergo's like the MK and hack on it till it looked like a total POS.
I've recued a couple dogs from the pound but tried to stay away from the ones that I thought might bite me in the Arse one day.;)

Unless you hand and fingers are correct size I believe it will force your grip to be altered to meet the grind. I would pass just because it is butt ugly and an embarassment to carry - why do you think it is being sold ?

Did anyone consider this may be a 1 of a kind manufactured by Kahr and worth some money because there were very few made? Those finger groves are not just carved out. the lower grip is much wider than a normal MK. It could not have been a regular frame altered. It had to be factory made that way, in my opinion only. The serial number is on the left side. This may be a prototype and a collector's item. Custom makers don't make new frames for a gun when the frame is the serial numbered item.

Somehow I think the seller would have mentioned that if it was an actual Kahr manufactured one of a kind to maximize his profits. To me it looks like it was done by a machinist who cut the finger reliefs than to cover up the tooling and ugh oh marks he stippled it. I really can't see Kahr Designers in any way shape or from weakening the frame after doing so much research on the original frame for strength and comfort to create something that looks like that.
It's a nice positive thought, but I'm not buying it for a minute.

I agree with Popeye completely. Also, I used Microsoft Paint to look very closely at the area where the serial normally is, and it's quite obvious that the picture has been doctored to blot out the serial number ... as is often the case on Gunbroker.
By the way, the gun actually ended up selling for $450! Obviously, somebody thought it was beautiful.

Ok, take a close look at the picture of the gun. Note that there is at least 1/2 inch of metal frame sticking out past the wood grips. Now look at any Kahr pistol in your inventory and find one that has metal frame that sticks out 1/2 inch past the grips on your gun. None of them have enough frame in front of the grips to be able to carve out that large finger grove. So, it can't be a normal Kahr pistol altered.

I see what you mean ... here are a picture of the gun in question side by side with my own MK9. You can see that there is more width to the altered gun.

I see what your saying the piece looks like it might have been welded on and then ground down and polished. Still not buying Kahr did that though. Glad someone liked it enough to buy it off the guy.
