I'm looking at a used MK9 and I was wondering what all I need to look for that may hint to problems with it. The 6 round magazine doesn't seat in the gun bit the extended magazine pops in just fine any ideas in that? The guy is asking $475 for the gun just thought I would see what you guys think. Thanks in advance!

Try a different 6 rd. magazine......................................take it apart and look for wear, cracks, whether it's really clean...........if it looks like it was taken care of. Does it function properly, mechanically? Is the barrel clean, and can you see the twist marks?

$475 is good price for an MK9. The likelihood is that's it's a good gun & any issues with it will be easily fixable. Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea how old it is or how many rounds have been through it? Many times people who don't know Kahrs don't give themselves a chance to break it in or get to know the gun. Berettabone & I have both recently bought used MK9's & they're now our favorite guns.

It was built in 97 or 98. I don't have any idea how many rounds have been through it but the end of the barrel and the end of the frame near the barrel have some wear and it looks like quite a bit of wear.

He's right ... he bought a brand new 12 year old gun. I was wrong to say it was used ... I should have said we both bought older guns that we both love.

that would be a good price in my neighborhood. a really nice mk9 can go for as much as 700 with good night sights. I bought a used k40 circa 1998 that cleaned up perfect and runs great. My mk9 is a little newer but same deal. I gotta think any issues you may find with your gun are repairable and the 6 round mag issue does sound like just a magazine problem vs. a problem with the gun. If so, you'll be in great shape. I prefer these well broken in steel Kahrs. Seems you cannot wear them out. Good luck.

honest wear and tear are not detractors for me. based on my experiences from owning a MK9 and K9 years ago id jump on one for $475. whats the worst, a new 6 magazine needed?

I appreciate all the input. I went and took another look at the gun and you can't see the twist in the barrel very good so I don't know about it. I really want an mk40 elite so I think I'll keep looking for a nicer gun. I just thought I might look at this gun until I found a really nice or new mk40 elite

Just a reminder...you are looking for polygonal twist not rifling. Gonna be harder to see. Is the bore bright? Still nothing wrong with holding out for the gun you really want. Although my mk9 was not the gun I wanted but I'm very glad I got it.

Hey, Kyle, I don't suppose you could post some pics of this gun you're talking about, could you? I'd be curious to see what this wear on the barrel end of the frame looks like.

With the average price of an MK9 on Gunbrokers right now being $742, this one you found is looking quite interesting. If you end up passing on it, I might consider it.

I think I am going to pass on it but if you are interested I will give you the number so you can call.

Hello folks, I was able to buy a brand new (never fired) previously owned MK 9 Elite just four days ago for $600. The previous owner had not even put rounds in the clips. He traded it back to the dealer for the PM 9 for lightweight pocket carry. I took it the range and put 200 rounds through it. It ran well on everything, but really seemed to love the 147 gr round nose and some 147 grain flat points(?). It was really accurate and I was very pleased with the way it handled the recoil- it seemed to dampen it down to an almost negligible point. It will become my IWB concealed carry as soon as I try it on some 147 gr HP's. Any suggestions as to the MK9's favorite diet of HP's? Am I correct in thinking it ran flawlessly on the heavier grained ammo because of the very stiff springs for which Kahrs seem to be noted?

Congratulations on finding a nice MK9. I love everything about mine; however. I'll need to leave your question to others with more experience. I've only had mine for a little over a month, and not fired anything except range ammo through it.

I broke mine in with Fiocchi 115 gr. and had 150 rds. without a glitch..........then switched to a box of Blazer brass 115gr. and had 3 fte's...........seems like the Fiocchi has a bit more power(snap) to it. It now consumes Federal 147 gr. HST's. Likes them. Polished my feed ramp for hollowpoints.................necessary? Maybe not, but I do it on all my firearms.............gives me piece of mind with the hollowpoints. According to some, the newer Kahrs have a well polished ramp.........mine was from 2000, and after polishing, definitely looks better.

nort real sure of a special diet MK9 needd, but I can tell you that Oprah's diet is 6 double mac with a large order of fries as a chaser. Hope that helps somewhat.

Back when the PM9's were still somewhat new I got one and after 125 rounds the peening was so bad I stopped and sent Kahr pictures. They sent me a new top end for it but that peened just as bad with only 100 rounds. I guess they had a soft metal problem but they did replace it with a K9 so they treated me fair.

Well around that time I stumbled across an MK9 that came out of pawn just the day I walked in, price tag said $325 and I snapped it up. It is an early model but I've never had a malfunction with it, it shoots to point of aim, and I carry it in a Galco JAK slide often.

Anything brass runs great thru my mk9. I've been shooting alot of 115gr range stuff. Just this week I broke out the 147gr SD ammo and was reminded how much better it shoots. They all run fine but the heavier ammo cuts the groupings in half. Feels better too. Real quick, sharp recoil with less muzzle flip. I likey. I was shootin' Golden Saber 147gr hp.

I like the Fiocchi 115 for practice.................use some Fed HST's 147gr.for carry and some range time..........the mk9 does seem to like the 147gr..............
