Thinking of a New Glock

I looking at getting a new glock and Im trying to decide between the Gen3 19 and Gen4 19 or the Gen3 26 or Gen4 26. Im trying to figure out if it is worth getting the Gen4 over the Gen3? I have heard about so many problems with the Gen4's just figured I would try to get some advice.

My g26 gen4 is the first firearm I have ever purchased. It has been 100% reliable. The problems with the guide rod springs and the brass to the forehead were in the very early production runs as I understand it. I have had zero problems with mine.

If you have smallish hands it's definitely worth it. The grip with the medium backstrap installed is the same as the Gen 3's grip, so the Gen 4's grip is smaller with the option of matching the Gen 3 with the smaller backstrap or going one size bigger than the Gen 3's grip. Also, if you like a beavertail both regular and beavertail backstraps are provided.

The previous problem with the Gen 4 Glock 19s was that they were using Glock 26/ 27 recoil springs but Glock corrected the problem.

I have the G19 G4 and it's a good choice. I haven't carried it since I bought the Kahr. My friend has the G26 G4 and likes it. Since I have the K9 and they are close to the same weight loaded I wouldn't purchase one. The G19 has many more rounds vs a few more.

The Glock 19 iwould be a great SHTF weapon. High capacity, lots of 9mm ammo around, and lots of spare parts.

Glocks are great. Go with whichever one feels better in your hand. If you intend to conceal carry, you may want to lean toward the G26.

I would recommend consideration of a sub-compact glock.
With the addition of compact mags and a X-Grip adapter.
You can grow or shrink the gun depending on carry.
And for Home Defense?
There's a second X-grip for G17 mags as well.

With a 9mm I don't think it matters much which gen you get, recoil wise. It's all about the grip. I have a gen3 G26 and its a great shooter, the grip is a little fat but ok. If you have small hands you should handle a Gen4 to see what its like. I use pearce extensions on my G26 mags.

They have a Glock forum too. They may be more helpful there. Best bud is a Glockman, but I never could get used to their trigger. JMO. Best of luck on your decision. Made in America. :amflag:

All of the Gen 4 problems are fixed. I have the 19 and 26 in gen 4. Both have been flawless. I chose gen 4 because the extra mag, recoil spring in the 19 and the grip. I tried a gen 3 and after a long range session, the handle got slippery. Not a problem with the gen 4. However, the gen 4 grip can be a little rough on your back while carrying. Personally though, I don't think you could go wrong with any of them (3 or 4 or 19 or 26)

The Glock Gen 4 has once again reached perfection with a new recoil spring assembly, ejector and extractor. First run Glock Gen 4s did have a few bugs in them, but all of them have been worked out.

Can't say I'm a big Glock fan but I must admit the glock 26 I bought a while back has grown on me. It might not have the beautiful lines of some other pistols, or fit my hand like it was specifically made for me, but the damn thing is sure as hell is durable, reliable, and is an all around terrific shooter.
I honestly do not think I've ever owned a pistol with a more durable finish then that's on the slide on my Gen 3 G26. Only mod I've made to this pistol is the trigger guard. Other than reshaping the front of that and the Pearce EXt grip it is 100% stock.

Used my Gen 3 G26 in a Steel Challenge Match yesterday. Didn't do as well as with my Ruger 22/45 (Rimfire iron sights), but got lots of practice with my everyday carry.

BTW, my G26 has about 2900 rounds through it now and it has never, not even once, malfunctioned.

To me the Glock ergonomics are terrible. Holding the grip feels like holding a 2X4. They are reliable and accurate, but as ugly as sin. Ugly is as ugly does. If you can get past the looks and the feel they are great guns.

I highly suggest you try a set of GAP floorplates for on the 10 rd stock mags. They add nothing to the length of the grip for CC, but really help get a secure grip when drawing and firing.
