Nice. What scope is that? I have an itch for a really high power scope.

Bet that fine piece is really hard on hogs.

Scope is a Nightforce 5.5-22x50 NXS. It is spendy but I love this scope. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.I put a 20moa base on it, H-S stock, and Jewel trigger adjusted to 1 lb. The reloads are too long to fit in the magazine. I am seating the bullet closer to the lands.
Last week some friends and I were shooting paint balls off golf tees at 100 yards without hitting the tee. We were also able to hit 4" clay targets at 500 yards. I am really really happy with this rifle with only a 20" barrel. The scope with rings also mounts to my .223 with only minor scope adjustment.
I bought the rifle with the intent of going hunting but got into reloading and target shooting. The local hogs are free to roam for now!

Nice set up.
I'm wanting something that will get up to about 20x. What I have now is a Leupold 3-9x40 on my AR and it's good but at 100 yards the point where the crosshairs meet is more than MOA so you just cant see well enough to put 2 or 3 rounds through the same hole. I can hit a quarter at 100 yards if I hold over to find it then "measure" how far I have to drop to center it but it just doesn't zoom in as far as I would like.

I only use 16x for most of my shooting. Only go to 22x for 500+ yards. I have the np-r1 reticle and I really like it. I have a Leupold 4x-12x that I used to like til I got the Nightforce. Now I am spoiled. That Nightforce is so sharp and clear. No problem with the fine reticles blocking the target.

Fun to shoot. Not so fun to carry. I had a heavy barrel .22-250 that I traded for a Sako Vixen in .223 for that very reason.

HnG, Curious about your your load data? Especially whats the OAL of your load to get out to the lands?
I also have a SPS Tac 308 and I have found that to touch the lands I am way out to 2.940" with 168gr SMK bullets. I decided to just run these so they fit the mag, but want to get some heavier/longer bullets to try. The freebore seems excessive for this type of rifle IMO. I have an older Rem VS 22-250 that I run just touching and it is not nearly as far out of the case as these but both are excellent shooters and are fun guns for sure. Great shooting BTW enjoy!

And with my best spotter!

Beardog, The load that I posted the target of is 2.290" to the ogive, or shoulder of the bullet. I do not go by oal as the shoulder is what makes contact and not the tip of the bullet. I also get about the same groupings at 2.369" to the shoulder. I decided on using the 2.290" length to back off from the lands a little more. The shot groups in between these loads opened up to about quarter size. I am also using the same bullets you are.I just measured the oal of one of my reloads and it is 2.875". My reload recipe....
Federal case
CCI br-2 primer
Sierra 168gr. hpbt #2200
IMR 4064----42.7 gr.
Lenght to shoulder of bullet----2,290"
You have a nice rifle and a great looking dog! did you change the bolt knob on yours? I changed mine as the stock one was too small. I think your dog smells a bear!

Thanks! More like he sees a squirrel, he hates those things LOL...
Thanks for the load info, it sure is working for you. I got to get back to shooting mine more often.
Yeap thats a Tac-ops knob I installed...pretty proud of the threading job I did on that bolt. I did the work at home with just my bench grinder and hand tools, actually ground the original knob down then worked it with files and emery cloth till it was round and sized for threading...Tac-ops includes a threaded stub to weld on after cutting the knob off, but I like my way better.

Damn, that's one fine looking Rotty. I won't even think the word squirrel in his presence.
Like to have a copy of that as a full time riding partner, hear they are protective. My Beagle is getting long in the tooth and never was much for protection except the constant barking.

Thanks Col. B!
He is my very best buddy, spend more time with him than anyone else. He is from 100% German lines, bred out of top German champions in show and work.
They are super loving companions and very protective to the people they love, I have no doubt the wife is well protected by him when I am not around. You ever decide to look into getting a Rotty let me know and I will help in any way I can.

Neighbors have one, not in anywhere near the class of yours but a good dog. He's getting pretty high mileage too. I play with him from time to time.
I tell myself no more dogs, too hard when they leave us but we always seem to get another, same with horses only even worse.
If I do get another dog when the Beagle crosses the river I'd sure like it to be a Rotty. I'd take him to work with me and teach it to hate Violets, keep them away from my cubicle. Damn that sounds fine don't it.

LOL... my boy loves the ladies, you may need a female for that...
I hear you. The last Rotty we had him for just shy of 13 yrs...almost killed us when he left us... This one I am even closer to, don't know how I am going get through it this time. I have thought about getting another before it happens may help IDK??? But I will always have one in my life, as long as I am able.

My neighbor(who just passed recently RIP) raised and trained 100% Rot's for 40 years.......................he was the only person in the city, that the cops would let run his dogs in the park, with out a leash............he had total control of his dogs. I didn't agree with some of his training tactics, but never the less, he had control.
