New guy here, bear with me :p
Fact: This week's (silly, useless, ridiculous) executive orders include a ban on reimportation of WWII and Korean-era military arms, most notably M1 Carbines and M1 Garands.
Fact: Auto Ordnance makes reproduction firearms from that era, including M1 Carbines, 1911's and Thompsons.
Conclusion: Auto Ordnance should start making reproduction M1 Garands to properly round out the production line and fill a demand that will no longer be filled with original M1 Garands.
Any thoughts?

I'd take one but I'm not writing off the original surplus ones. As soon as we get some humans back in the federal government they can erase all the stupid ca ca this poser in chief has done.
It won't happen over night but it's doable and frankly I can't wait.

I'd consider one. Good idea. I love my AO M130 carbine so there's no reason I wouldn't like an AO M1 Garand. Especially if I can get one for a fraction of the $$ of a "real" one. You know, I almost passed on my M130 because I was looking for a lever gun at the time. REAL glad I didn't.

What would you be willing to pay for a new production M1 Garand? I don't think that the market is big enough.

Just the other day I was thinking about how often I'd read that the M1 Garand is being used in drive by shootings and bank robberies. I think that Obama did the country a real service by banning their importation. Not.

New M1 Garands would cost a fortune to produce , Even if they MIM'ed the parts it would still be out of reach for most people. There are so many better choices out there today. Plus a new M1 Garand would not have the mystic or the history of the original M1 Garand. Which is definitely why so many people want them. However at this stage of the game and as well as my 1955 Springfield seems to shoot it would still not be my first choice go to rifle in an emergency. I would trust my 2011 Mini14 or my 1969 Yugo SKS to be more reliable. I cherish my 1955 Springfield M1 Garand more than any firearm I own, and it's on my NO SELL LIST. Being realistic though it's old it's seen it's share of tough times I'm sure. It does not feed the rounds into the chamber 100% of the time like it once did, it's about 85/90 % reliable. But I will not try to make it something it's not anymore, so I leave it 100% original, Out of respect. I shoot only M1 Garand specified 30-06 ammo in it which is not cheap. This might sound funny to most folks, but when you shoot and original M1 Garand it seems like it speaks to you and tells you little bit about itself and where it's been. (I feel you rolling your eyes and that's cool) I have other rifles that I really enjoy shooting but none is more fun to shoot than my M1 Garand. If someone was to give me a new Repop M1 Garand (I sure wouldn't buy one)I'm sure I'd like it, like I like my copy of the GI 1911 but it would be what it is a copy that has no soul to it like and original does.
They should not stop the return of these rifle back into the country as they are a very important part of American History and with all the better choices out there for BG's they are of no threat to anyone. Trust me a gang banger would not have a clue what to do with a M1 Garand. The fear of them ending up in the wrong hands is pure fallacy.

Excellent post Popeye and I know precisely what your feeling and saying.
Me and mine will never part. I also only shoot the correct ammo for it and I don't shoot it often.
I wouldn't hesitate to grab it if needed, I know it will do the job.
Just last year was the first time I was at a range where I didn't have to load one round at a time and I got to experience the clip (it is a clip on a garand, not a mag) fly out a few times. It was a profound experience.
I tingle sometimes just holding it. Hopefully they can start importing right after we get this piece of garbage out of the white house.

This move by Obama was strictly an in your face to the NRA. He's an arrogant a-hole and this is payback.

I understand his next meaningful move will be to outlaw the use of Model T's as getaway cars in bank heists.

a repo is like GM ,making a run of 1953 cporvetts. Not worth the fiberglass they would be made out of
I can see M1 thumbs in every gang banger who ever tried to load one.
BUT that all bein said I do have a blow up doll of Dolly Pardon. I would not sell her for nuttin. Just sayin

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you a little bit there Jocko. Using that logic you must not like M1A's, new manufacture 1911's or any AR15 in common civilian ownership? Modern manufacture versions of classic firearms have a place in common gun ownership and use.
FWIW, I'd probably pay somewhere around $900-1,000 for a good quality (that's key) new-manufacture M1 Garand. I think I'll just get one from CMP though. :amflag:

It's perfectly fine to disagree with Jocko, I do it all the time mostly out of spite but usually it's not wise.
He for sure isn't a 1911 guy nor does he have any love for the only true pistol caliber (45) but I think that's out of spite too.
I do wholeheartedly agree that modern replica's of classic firearms is a market place all it's own. Uberti and many others have done very well doing just that and I have several.
But look at M1A's as an example, even before the panic they were around a grand a copy. I don't know if anyone could build a decent Garand in the 1000 neighborhood.
Also while I love them and wish I had a dozen more and many here do also it's still a bit of a niche market. It may indeed be large enough that it would fly, I would hope that it would and at the same time it might arouse interest in that period of history and generate demand for the real things.
I honestly can't believe there are still any left but I understand there are tons.
What I'd like to know is what happened to all the millions of GI 1911's that are languishing in a warehouse some place. Those never seemed to come up.
I know Jocko would not want one so if nobody minds I'll take his too.

I'd like a new manufacture Garand so I could put my other one(s) in nice display caseses.
