Dolly Parton sings the Ballad of the Green Beret. She dedicates it to the members of the Special Forces, that so often don't get the recognition they should due to the secrecy of their missions.

Dolly has always gone out of her way to entertain the troops.

As much as I truly appreciate Dolly respecting the troops by performing this song, I couldn't listen to more than a minute. No disrespect meant to Ms. Pardon but I grew up listening to the LP "Ballad of the Green Berets" with all songs performed by SSGT Barry Sadler.

That LP is long gone but I just looked it up on Amazon and they have it on CD. Yes, I'm still listening to music on CD's and I'm not changing again! LP's to 8 tracks to cassettes to CD's. I'm not changing ever again!

Now off to order the CD.

+1 on Barry Sadler. I was only about 11 when that came out but still affected me and even though never went into the military made me want to somehow be a better man when I grew up. Again hats off to those of you who served. ..:Amflag2:

Most often when there's an old tried and true rendition of something and some one new comes along with something different we usually love the original and turn up our nose at the new one.
To me same with new pickups, just when I get to really liking them, they come out with a new model I think is ugly.

A good example was the movie Lonesome Dove. They came out with the sequel with a replacement for Tommy Lee Jones. No matter how good the new guy is, John something, can't remember, he'll never be the same.

I got nothing againt Dolly, it's good of her to do it, it might not be the original real thing but that's ok

I may be somewhat prejudice too, on my recent visit to Reno they had a Dolly Parton slot machine or whatever you call those things that take your money and you push the button and you win or lose, normally lose.

It treated me very kindly one evening, very kindly indeed.
The following night the two faced *&(*# robbed me of it all and then some.

There are two things that I've always loved about Dolly. Her patriotism and her vocal ability. (I'll bet Jocko thought I was going to say her breasts.) She's my kinda woman. :)
