As I was born and raised in the people's republic of Illinois, I've never given much thought to carrying a gun. That is, until this past December when the 7th CCA ruled that our ban on carrying was unconstitutional.

As has been posted here before, Illinois did pass a bill that should have permits "in hand" sometime early next Spring.

In anticipation of this (and to get some of the required training out of the way), I took an NRA Basic Pistol course a few months back, and also applied for a non-resident Florida permit.

Yesterday, my permit came in the mail. Friday, the wife and I are heading to Branson, MO for the weekend, and I will legally be allowed to carry a concealed firearm for the first time in my 37 years of life.

Just felt like sharing that.

Welcome to America the way our founding fathers meant it to be.

It's kind of like going solo driving a car for the first time. A real feeling of independence.

In order to make it official

You need to stop at the first Walmart on the way down to Branson and do your "Wally Walk". :) It is a right of passage for Concealed Carry. LOL

Congratulations, G23.

Carry laws vary widely from state to state. Take a peek at MO law (http://handgunlaw.us/states/missouri.pdf), before your trip. You may be surprised to learn of restrictions on gambling riverboats, amusement parks, restaurants (depending on what percentage of their business is the sale of alcohol), places of worship, sports venues, etc.

Enjoy your trip.
