Hello everyone I was sitting here thinking because I went to academy last night and picked up a couple of boxes of ammo. Well I was thinking that every since the ammo shortage began up until now and its still scarce in spells every so called survival expert said get a .22lr, 9mm, .357 or .223 or .308 because this is what the military uses and the .357 is the most common hunting round so there will always be plenty of ammo. Well in my personal experience I have not seen any .22lr in 3 months, and haven't seen any 9mm for at least 2 months. yes the others were available at times, other times not. The only two rounds that I saw on a consistent basis no matter what were .45acp and 12ga. You take it how you want and base your home security off of your own experiences this is mine and I will address my needs accordingly.

I was at Academy today and looked at 9mm for $22+. I thought too much.

I've been buying 9mm, .38 SPL, .380, .25, 30-30 and whatever I want in 12 gauge and .410 gauge. I'm actually over stocked at this point in most calibers. Prices may be high but the sheer choice of brands on-line is staggering, IMO. Are you sure you're looking in the right places? As I type this, I see over 30 different brands/types of range ammo, most WELL under 50 cents/round with many in the 27 cents per round range. Plus, most of the highly sought after HP's are available but in the 70 cent range.

Ammo in SE Michigan has been slowly improving.
Last week Cabela's didn't even have a box limit on ammo.
Two days ago Meijir's had WW 45 ACP for 40.00 a round.

Here in OK 9mm and 22LR is for all intents and purposes extinct. Most rifle ammo is available if you are will so spend $1.50 a round for good 223 and almost $2.50 a round for .308.

That crappy Remington UMC can be had for about .50cents a round but I consider it worse that crap.

40 S&W has been the most available round locally through both shortages for me.
It's not my favorite caliber.
But I've got more handguns chambered for 40 S&W than any other.
And that's not coincidence.

Local Academy here in Carolina has removed restrictions on everything but 9mm and .22lr. If you're not seeing your caliber in the gun section be sure to check the customer service desk. That's where they keep the hard to find stuff.

I bought .223 and .380 there this weekend. It was back in the gun section along with many other popular calibers. It's finally getting better.

I'm not familiar with the "Academy", is it a gun store chain or what?

+1. It's been a roller coaster ride for sure. I have firearms in various calibers also by design. I've been shooting whatever's available at reasonable prices but it changes daily. I've run across a few pleasant surprises in oddball calibers like 35rem or 30carbine. Take 'em when you can get 'em. 40sw has been most consistent at a fair price.

Locally all the 45 acp and 12 ga that you want. You can find the rest off and on with 22 being the hardest to find. My local Wal-Mart had 9mm today for $13.96.

It's a sporting goods chain that started here in Austin, Texas as a military surplus store back in the fifties, I think.

Generally reasonable prices.

Academy is an all sports store similar to Dick's, Cabela's(not the bog store), Sports Authority, etc. It's a national chain. The first I saw one was in Corpus and now we have one here. It's a good store and they handle lots and lots of shoes with sizes up to 15.

We'll be traveling through TX this winter I'll have to check it out.

While in TX we plan on spending some time in Big Bend National Park. I'm looking forward to it. The only part of TX I've really seen is San Anton... thanks to the AF.

The ammo "shortage" here in the south, at least locally, is over for the most part. The only thing there is a limit on is .22lr and .22mag. For some reason that I can't fathom, people are still buying it up in bricks as fast as they can but you can find 50 to 100 round boxes on the shelf a day or two after they are put out.

We've had bulk .223/5.56, 9mm, .40, .45 and .30-06 sitting on the shelves for a couple of weeks until this weekend. Tax free 2nd Amendment weekend and all bulk is gone.

We've got plenty more coming in tomorrow on a couple of trucks so all is well.

Yup, 22 is still what disappears quickly here too. Centerfire stuff is getting back in stock regularly.
