From BearingArms.Com

“The state acts and everybody pays the price.”
Bruce Stanley Sr., an Ilion NY resident who is retired after 34 years working for Remington, summed up the feeling of an entire village in an article (http://www.buffalonews.com/business/new-york-gun-makers-in-a-squeeze-stay-or-go-20130907) in the Buffalo News looking at how New York gun manufacturers are handling the wake of New York’s SAFE Act, a brutally restrictive and unconstitutional gun control law rammed through the New York legislature by Governor Andrew Cuomo and down-state ant-gun Democrats.
Virtually every job in Ilion is connected to the Remington Arms (http://www.remington.com/) plant either directly or indirectly, so hearing that the company is looking to expand elsewhere (http://bearingarms.com/is-remington-about-to-bolt-liberty-challenged-new-york-for-gun-friendly-tennessee/) puts the entire city on edge. That worry is only heightened when the company—now headquartered in Madison, North Carolina—will not make long-term commitments to the town where they have been since 1816.
Remington’s original plant in Ilion has survived for 197 years, the longest any company has been continuously operating at it’s original facility making the same kind of product.
Whether Remington’s original plant and Ilion itself survives Cuomo and his fellow anti-gun Democrats remains to be seen."

I hate to see a town lose it's livelihood, but why continue paying taxes to a state that is trying to regulate you our of business.

From the beginning, Remington wavered from what I understand. I bought a Savage to fulfill my bolt gun needs.

I agree. It's sad though that a town pays the price for the states stupidity.

I am not altogether sorry for the citizens. Particularily the ones who voted for the legislators who are doing this to them.

True, I agree but the folk in Ilion are probably sorely outnumbered by morons in the higher density areas.

Like here in Washington all the common sense well all except me are on the east side of the mountains.

But all the pathetic give me losers and morons are in the high population areas. Seattle, King County etc.

Not many welfare hand out folks over on the east side. They only vote once and work for a living.

Might be the same thing with Ilion.

I still think they should move, again sad since they been in that spot for so long but stuff happens.

Sure be nice to have a ban button for worthless politicians.

You need to realize that it was the NYC and liberal anti gun voters who controlled who was elected. Look at a map. Geographically, NYC is a very, very small part of NYS, but has the lib population to elect such worthless politicians. The rest of beautiful upstate NY, primarily gun loving outdoorsmen and country folk, are the ones that are suffering. These are the same kind of folk working at Remington. Your comment is like saying you don't feel sorry for the pro gun citizens of the USA because of those libs who elected Obama. Get your mind right. You need to feel sorry for the right minded citizens and those who are fearful of losing their jobs at Remington. If you don't, you are missing the boat here. Lots of upstate New Yorkers are either thinking about or are moving out of NY, as are the businesses. It is a shame, Upstate NY is beautiful country. Go visit the Adirondacks sometime and you will see what I mean. It is REAL country with a strong gun and hunting heritage. It would be nice to ban these worthless politicians (like Cuomo) as Bawana said.

garyb I realize there are a few good Yankees. But the fact is they are in the minority. I love the country side of NY, having visited the Adirondacks. I just do not like having to deal with New Yorkers attitude.

I could not agree with you more about NY attitude LongitudeZero. However, you refer to the CITY attitude in down state NY....NYC. You'll find that temperament in NYC and Long Island. The rest of NY and NJ is much, much different. Unfortunately, NYC is where the gun laws originate...they control the state. In addition, some folks think that the people voted in the gun laws. NO WAY...they voted in the lib governor Cuomo who took it upon himself to "dictate" the current NY gun laws. It was rammed down our throats because that's what the city wants. NYC should be its own state.

Business is leaving the democrat controlled states at an alarming rate. When people lose their jobs maybe they will regain their senses and vote conservative rather than liberal. We didn't become the greatest nation on the face of the earth by sitting on our cans collecting welfare. And contrary to what Obama says, we built this nation, not the freaking government.

Well, the liberals in those eastern states can always buy surplus French guns. ;)
