Background:
Patricia has graciously acceded to place a sticky on this thread so that Kahr owners (and prospective owners) will have a place to check serial number history and any product service information (such as the limited July 2004 PM9 barrel recall/refinish).

I’m going to start this with 3 posts, the first for Kahr model information and any SN-related bulletins, the other two for 9mm and 40 S&W serial numbers respectively. Following this, users can post their individual Kahr SN’s. I’m going to attempt to keep this a bit cleaner than the Gen’l Glocking project (hats off to that 10mm guy, ‘cause that’s a handful). As I’m able to update the overall listing from individual posts, Patricia will assist me in removing them. Less for you to scroll through in determing whether a given SN-range has been posted or not.

It is extremely valuable if you know or can use the date on the case-collection envelope, often called the “born-on” date. If you don’t know the born-on date, please say “date unknown” – if someone comes along later who does know it, then I’ll update that SN’s information. When posting, please post in the following format as it will simply save the amount of time I spend in cutting, pasting & collating, leaving more time for shooting: ^c

1st 4 characters of SN – Model – born-on date (or “date unknown”). The first 4 are needed because production can be split within less than a thousand from month to month.
For example:

YC01xx - P9 Covert – Feb 2002

A Word about SN Sequencing
Following my query to Dottie Herold at Kahr, she advises there can be several reasons why SN's may sometimes be out of sequence. The first is the obvious situation where dealers sometimes don't rotate their guns (or orders) on a FIFO basis, for a variety of reasons. This would cause a gun to come into the public domain seemingly out of sequence. The case-collection date is the best indicator.

The other is that, as Kahr runs a monthly quantity with a SN group being applied to one model or another, there could be a situation where a gun or guns don't pass one of their "audit gates" and are held back as a production repair. It is certain to be sold "out of sequence." Great procedure for us (the production checks), bad for applying logic to SN sequences. Bottom line is that the case-collection date is still the best "born-on" date; if the gun was pulled back for a quality check/repair before hitting the street that's great. The main purpose of the thread being to track age & service info, non-sequential SN's are a curiosity only, as long as the age/status of the gun can be established with whatever SN it carries. If anyone has any further definitive info to pass along on this issue, please PM me so that I can keep the straighest info available. Shoot safely & enjoy. http://glocktalk.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Note: As Covert models are not marked as such on the slide, please include that info in the post if it is. Official model designations and photos can be found at the following links:

9mm Kahrs here (http://kahr.com/pistols_9mm.html)
40 S&W Kahrs here (http://kahr.com/pistols_40sw.html)

SERVICE INFORMATION:
I will attempt to post ONLY verified product service information relating to mods, recalls, etc. Word of mouth, rumor, conjecture, etc., will not get it done. Dottie Herold, Opns Mgr at Kahr (508-795-3919, Ext. 331), has always promptly answered my emails. I suspect that polite/civil emails & phone calls yield similar responses.

"Over-enthusiastic" Mag Release: For those who find that the standard magazine release anticipates their needs too well, or is too-easily bumped under recoil, there is an updated mag release available from Kahr, at no charge. Contact them with your SN to ascertain applicability. Thread with contacts & relevant info is here. (http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=266338)

PM9 Barrel Recall: Kahr has posted information regarding a specific range of PM9 barrels to be recalled and have some finish machining done. The specifics as to whether your barrel requires service should be gotten by contacting Kahr.

Models involved: PM9093A, PM9093NA, PM9094A, PM9094NA
Serial number ranges: VA0003 -- VA9999, VB0004 -- VB0999

(FWIW, as of 16 August, turnaround for a barrel "appears" to be running around 7-9 calendar days. YMMV as the recall proceeds & more barrels are received for machining. - wig19)

Detail Strip Instructions: Many thanks to Michigun (who proves he really was awake in Expository Writing-101) for creating & blending a very good series of pictures (including one clearly showing all the Kahr lubrication points) into a set of instructions for detail stripping the upper. If Mrs. Michigun can do it, you can too, so get out those Dremels, felt pads, etc., and finish up the polish job you put off. http://glocktalk.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif Relevant thread here. (http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=276518)

Design Info:....for those curious how the Kahr's trigger & design works, this. (http://www.kahr.com/vg_unique.html)

This one is very close to mine, it's IB11xx and the date on the case is 7/22/09 but it's odd that it is an earlier number with a later date on the sticker? Does anyone know where the "born on" date is they are referring to is?

I just got this PM9094A Black Diamond S/N VC25xx with fired shell case date 4/27/06.
I thought it was an "N" model, but the night sights are Tru Dots and must be add-ons (?). Maybe Kahr just doesn't label the "N" models as such. Neither of my Kahrs is labeled as such.

I purchased my first Kahr MK9 2 weeks ago at a local shop. The serial number is GA08xx and I don't see it on the list. Can anyone give me some info on this number/series?
I shot 50 rounds through it last week and it shot fine with the only problem being that my eyes aren't as good as they use to be.
Thanks,

NOS - K9 (9091) S/N AG11XX - Carbon Steel w/ electoless nickel finish. E-mail from Kahr states it's birthday is 2-13-97. Just cleaned the cosmoline (or whatever that goop is) off, oiled it up and am waiting to go to the range (this weekend I hope).

I posted this on GT, but I will post it here too:

NOS - K9 (9091) S/N AG11XX - Carbon Steel w/ electoless nickel finish. E-mail from Kahr states it's birthday is 2-13-97. Just cleaned the cosmoline (or whatever that goop is) off, oiled it up and am waiting to go to the range (this weekend I hope).

Thanks

Andy

refer to the thread in the kahr tech section under propper prepping of your new kahr. Being this gun is 13 years old and looks not to be shot, the striker channel certainly must be really cleaned good. This thread will help you make that little dandy gun a pleasure to shoot etc. Just prep it right fromt he git go instead of wiping the externals alld onw and maybe expecting all else to be perfect. Error on the side of caution. Nice gun by the way..

My K40 has stainless written on the frame also, looks like it was written with one of those vibrating etchers. The slide may have been stainless but I'm pretty sure the frame isn't although I'm not positive.
Kahr replaced the black slide under warranty with a stainless I requested. They didn't have any black ones so I was in a holding pattern.
Still a great gun so I don't give it much thought.

Mine was bought used and it was about 7 years old, and has never faltered. super nice gun. Mine had the most loved kahr rubber grips on them, today I don'tthink kahr puts those rubber grips on the K series. It sure gives the gun a super nice grip and also the grip screws never come loose either..

Order from wolffs the 5# striker spring and drop that baby in, U will love it, won't change the trigger length but certainly will change the trigger poundage from around 8# down to 5# and u will get no light strikes from it either. Won't be a hairy trigger either as the travel is the same..:der:

The rubber grips on it are like a glove. I do know what grips you speak of though. I kind of like the somewhat worn stock spring- like butta! The "factory" wolf striker spring is a bit too heavy IMO. I might take you up on that 5# spring though. Just got the Meprolight night sites in today but eaiting until the minor quirks I'm having are resolved before installing in case kahr replaces the slide (unlikely though). But I tell you, I looove this gun. Especially with the stainless guide rod. She's a real looker and a real shooter ;)

Jocko & Dusty -- It is not stamped 'stainless' so i believe you are correct. It's hard to tell from the wear points though. I did not know about that earlier distinction.
It has those sticky rubber grips too.

can't tell you that at all. Have no idea when they went to the new slide thing or if even all kahrs sent out today have the new slide thing . There is to my knowledge no link to that. I would think if you nee dto know that just call kahr and askthem what serial number did they start putting the beveled longer slides on the PM9. I certainly would not have one of those beveled slides. I for the life of me can see no reason why they even did it, let alone the mass confusion now in ordering the correct recoil spring and recoil spring assembly. dumbest fooking thing I ever heard of. we now took a small subcompact gun and made it bigger for WHAT????

PM 40 and PM9 have a beginning different letter. I would say your PM40 is indeed a late model. I don't follow the PM40's like I do ther PM9. you might wantto chekc the kahr serial number thread to see if one is close to yous and its date of birth.

Not that it matter, as long as the gun goes bang.. I see on the kahr fourm on glock talk that a JA 44xx was born on Sept 09, so if your serial numbers are later tan that then you might be in the 2010 year.

look for the first two alpha letter to be either IC OR ID and u willhave the lastest made this year..

u moight want to do some research on the ctc laser for the PM9,/CM9 as their laser is not matching up very nicely. the two halves are not mating up right and looking at the gun from the frontj, the laser seems cockeyed. this is a problem that ctc is presently not addressing and just basicaly telling the onwers. JUST LIVE WITH IT.

If u go to my ALERT thread, there is alot more detail and a nice photo showing what I am telling you. If it fits no better than that, I think u willbe sadly dissapointed in the laser, . It works OK it seems being cockeyed, just looks like sh-t ..

HERE U GO;

I find it odd that the two halves don't quite match up from the topview either (note how the problematic right half juts out a couple millimeters mmore than the left, almost as though they are based off of different generations of molds...that's pure speculation on my part, since I have nothing to compare it with, just seems visually odd to me):

I just saw this thread. It has a lot of good info on page 1, thanks to those who put it together.
My recent PM9 purchase is a PM9094NA serial # 1D17XX.
As I'm sure many of you are aware, the manual indicates that the A is for inventory management and currently has NO meaning and is no longer applicable. So, I guess mine was made before they dropped the A but I would like to know when.
I have an e-mail into Kahr service asking when my pistol was made but when or if I might hear from them is anyone's guess. :(
FWIW, tomorrow will be the first time out for me and the little pistol. ;)

Jim C are u sure that serial number u posted is not an I instead of a 1. If it is an ID17xx u got one of the latest models out. I don't think other than the model on the box that the serial numbers change from a dlc finish PJM9 over a stainless finished gun. Go to glock talk.com and hit on the kahr section and hit on the serial history. It is far mor updated that the one on this site, I would venture to guess ur pm9 is Mid 2011 vintage,

Happy to be aboard...thank you. Just picked up my CW45 from my FFL yesterday (ordered from Cheaper than Dirt) and right away, not impressed with the build quality of the gun compared to my CM9. Serial number is SE0263. I noticed the slide didn't have the 2 dimples inside (to indicate new style sights); the rear of the trigger has jagged edges, the front tip is sharp, and the trigger itself wobbles left to right (lots of play), and the bottom of the mag well has scrapes and scrathches as if it was dropped. I called Cheaper than Dirt and asked what's up--was told all sales are final. I'm suspecting I just purchased and old stock from CTD. Please advise. Thank you.

Thanks for the advise JFootin. I did email CS and informed them of the issues with my new CW45, however, being Saturday, no one to read and reply to it. Wait 'til next week I guess. I also emailed Mr. Harris but only asked him about the dimples inside the slide, and in less than 2 hours, on a Saturday, I received a reply from him!!! Outstanding CS!!! He informed me that all of Kahr 45ACPs are produced with the new dovetail cuts, thus no dimples on the slides. Good-to-know info. I'm feeling much better already, I still have to deal with the loose, jagged, and sharp trigger though.

humm learn something new every day, do u know what its purpose really is???Is this the carbon steel frames and slide?? It is definitley an earlymodel as the frame is not scalloped like the later versions, but that screw to me is new to me. I bt those grips are the all rubber grips. don't let them get away from u..

jocko I'm not sure about the screw but sounds like by its name it keeps the slide stop from going down too far, its always touching it unless the slide is locked back. It may be an early experiment, was hoping someone might be able to tell me on the forum.
Yes it does have the carbon steel slide and frame and rubber grips also.

I have the following Kahr:

K9, serial number BF062X, black receiver on a stainless steel frame, highly polished ramp and throated, old style sights with no dimple inside, marked with a "U" stamped on the frame. It came with 7 and 8 round magazines.

It is completely reliable and quite accurate. Even during the "break-in period", it never had one FTF or FTB!!! One change - I wish the metal portion of the grip came with subtle checkering or slight grooves as an option.

Hi,
These links in the original post appear to be broken.

Note: As Covert models are not marked as such on the slide, please include that info in the post if it is. Official model designations and photos can be found at the following links:

I'm guessing they have changed the site since it was posted. I think the new link to pictures for the offical model designations and phones would be this link:

KAHR MIGHT BE ABLETO TELL YOU WHEN THEY CHANGED. I would certainly think they could give u the date of birth of your kahr...

MNormally the covert models are shorter grips andusually one shot less magazine than a normal kahr. Lets sayt a P9 which is 7 rounds, would not be cut down to take a PM magazine which is 6 rounds. and Yes u would still have the original P9 slide and barrel, same with the TP9
KMany here on this forum have dne the covert mod themselves and they look like factory to. I kinda think kahr got away from the covert version when they started to offer the PM series. If u have a factory covert, u have a nice gun.

Kahrs should be able to kanswer most of ur questions. I have had the best results in just emailing kahr: attn: Jay and posing ur questions, that way yhe has time to research and get back to you. They are retty good about that to, IMO..

AD15XX - K9 - November 1995

My K9 is AD157X and the receipt in the box says it was purchased in 1997 but, (see below) MANUFACTURED NOVEMBER 1995.

UPDATE: I emailed Kahr and it took them all of 13 minutes to respond, on Christmas Eve no less. The gun was actually manufactured in November 1995, so it is a very early gun. The receipt I have does not indicate whether the gun was purchased new or used, but was purchased in April 1997 by the last owner of which I'm aware.

Hi all,

New to the forum (which is great btw)... bought a stainless K9 on gunbroker.com earlier this month from a 'stellar rep' seller... BUT I'm unsure if I got what I paid for- the stainless matte K9 was described in the auction as a '2015 model' with an Elite trigger and 320 rounds through it so far and in 'like new' condition, which it certainly appears to be. It arrived in a factory box, all mags and included accessories accounted for. A NIB Crimson Trace came with the K9 for a total of $560.00. Haven't shot it yet. Tad of slide play when empty which I assume is fine, the trigger however seems to be considerably heaver than 5.5 or so pounds, although the pull is as you all have described- smooth, no stack and long. K9093A, S/N BF4012. I'd like to find out how to 'date' the gun and how to identify the trigger as Elite or not before I give the seller any feedback, etc. Any ideas guys? TIA!

CRH welcome to the forum, hang out with us and enjoy the ride. An email to Kahr customer service will get you the date of manufacture (month/year) in short order. I have not had many question to ask of them, but I have always received a nicely worded response in short order.

As an example, I asked about the SN ranges for the early carbon steel K9/E9 as I am seeking one as a project gun and was (losing a )bidding war on an AExxxx SN gun. In about four days I received this:

Hello,

Thank you for purchasing a Kahr Arms/Auto Ordnance product. Our engineers
have informed me that all K9's with a serial number within the following
groups were manufactured from Carbon Steel, ABxxxx, ACxxxx, ADxxxx, AExxxx,
ASxxxx, BAxxxx. Yours falls into this grouping. E9's with a serial number
within the following groups, AMxxxx, AWxxxx, were manufactured from Carbon
Steel, and E9's with carbon steel frame and stainless slide, BCxxxx.

Thanks,

Kahr Arms/Auto Ordnance

Very complete answer sent along pretty quickly. Don't be shy in asking Kahr and feel free to let us know what you find.

Thanks, planedude- great advice... sent an email to Kahr this evening. Glad to hear about your positive experience... I have a feeling the Detonics Combat Master Mark VI that I carry now and have every day for many years (I love that damn thing as much as my old Browning P35) will be replaced for EDC soon by the K9... the K9 reminds me of the DCM in its solidity, wonderful handling and high quality... 9mm +P ammo has come a *long* way in the last 10 years, which makes the changeover to that beautiful K9 rational if not still difficult.

Will report back once I get Kahr's reply!

This was documented by someone who bought it, in the list on the Glocktalk site: YA93xx - P9 Covert - Dec 2002

But, that being said I own a MK9 Elite 2000 that I bought brand new in Feb. 2003, and it was made in Dec. 2000. It is not unusual for guns to sit on shelves or in warehouses for a relatively long time before being sold. If you call Kahr they will tell you the exact manufacture date.

Yes I know. My guess is that the frames were built some time ago and or that the serial numbers for a model may have been designated for that model.
