 What is the opinion of a Ruger SP101 hammerless stainless snubbie? I have a guy that wants to trade me one for a scope that I don't use.
The scope is A equal value Trijicon RMR.

Sounds like a no brainer to me...................I would put a full hammer back on, they are just butt ugly with no hammer..............nice little firearm though........

I like the SP101. I'm not at all familiar with the hammerless version.

Looks very nice. Like brand new. I'll add a set of SP101 grip inserts to my to do list.
I forgot to add the ones from the last person. I'll have to research and see who that was. The minds a terrible thing to lose, also the minds a terrible thing to lose.

Hands down SP101 to me. The LC9 does kind of go with your color scheme but doesn't appeal to me like your others do.

get it. I am real pleased with my sp101 snubbie although I prefer the hammered version. Not a deal breaker though. I really like Ruger revolvers and rifles but I've never been able to warm up to their pistols (with the exception of the 1911). Not sure why so I'd pass on the lc9 but that's just me.
I ordered a spring kit for the sp101 awhile back but haven't gotten around to doing a trigger job. The stock trigger is pretty stiff (about 14lbs I believe in DA) and a little gritty. I haven't shot it enough to wear thru the grit. I might just take it to the gunsmith to get it done and done right. Regardless, I still recommend the revolver even with the stock trigger.
And yes it's pretty stout when shooting 357. I practice mostly with 38 and save the magnums for SD. But I wouldn't let that stop me. The upside is that you have the choice...

I've had a 2 1/4 hammerless and still have a 3" hammered SP101. I think they are fantastic revolvers and prefer them to the Smith Jframes all steel. No side plate access and beautiful workmanship.
The triggers are long and stout, but a good trigger job can do wonders for these.
I vote DO IT. SP101

I'm partial to Smiths, but that is one nice looking Ruger wheelgun; forget the LC9 and learn to love double action.

Ok, here's the perfect solution. Send me the SP101, have him give you the LC9, give him the sight!
It's a win / win perfect solution. I should get a Nobel. Lord knows the standards are low enough these days.

I passed on a LNIB SP101 for $300.
I'm still kicking myself over that.
Had just bought a S&W 65-3 M&P 3" Heavy Barrel.
And already owned a S&W 640-1 Centennial snubbie.
So I just couldn't justify the buy.
Everybody needs at least one 357 snubbie.
IMHO Ruger SP101 and S&W 640 are best of breed.
Get a trigger job for sure.
I've got a XS Big Dot on the nose of both of my snubbies too.
It's a sweet NS option for a pocket pistol.

I was going to post a pic of mine with the grip panels Bawanna made for me a couple of years ago, but I still can't get my "free" photobucket account to cooperate since their last big change ......
so, I'll post the last pic I have remaining on the photobucket site which is my personal opinion of photobucket
I HATE PHOTOBUCKET
actually, this is a sculpture that was made by my trusty Dobie, Guinness, but it reminds me of the current status of algoresinternetsuperhighway

On that note I started 4 sets of SP101 grip panels tonight. Got them cut out.
A little shaping and fine tuning and I'll offer em up.
I had some frustrating issues with photobucket too when they messed everything up. I'm back up now once I figured it out.
I don't really know what I did to figure it out but I hope you get it sorted out son.
With that Dobie artist you'll need it.

It's the same only different ways of doing stuff.

I log on to p-bucket, hit the upload button, navigate to my "re-sized" pictures and hit "open", then wait for 15-20 minutes while the little buzz saw runs around and around fooling me into thinking it's really going to upload the pic
.... then I get pi$$ed off and shut it down
should I wait for 30 minutes?
in one enough? ..... is two too many?
hhhmmmm..... she never asks for another cup of my coffee ....
I think I'm having a 21st century commercialized technological meltdown

Something else is preventing you from uploading a photo. I have zero issues and it takes the same amount of time as always. Firewall? Updated Anti-Virus Software? I sure doesn't sound like Photobucket.

Fifteen handguns and two hands.
I already had four revolvers.
One of which I bought a week before (S&W 65-3 3").
A deal is only a deal when you need the weapon.
Still, the price was ridiculous.
After sleeping on it.
I went back the next day to buy it anyway.
And it was gone - LOL!
Later I bought a NIB HK P2000 357 Sig LEM for $649.
Knowing that was a great deal also.
I ended up buying a second identical twin P2000 357 for the same price.
We live and learn my friend.

You know I was just jerking your chain. I've run across a few "deals" that I really just wasn't interested in to later find out I could have made a couple hundred bucks moving it or trading for something I was interested in. It seems might rare to run across a great deal when you really are looking for a particular model (of anything)

But I dunno that I would trade that RMR for one.. heck I just got myself a Burris Fast Fire III I am thinking of mounting on one of them SP101s.
Decisions decisions.. Oh should you purchase that SP101 for sure get the Wolff spring kit for it and IF you decide you do not like that bobbed hammer holla at me I will swap a normal hammer for that bobbed one.

Jumpin' in late here... just wanted to report that I've got a very very old SP101 with maybe 50,000 dry fire cycles through it... no issues!~ Very old, as in.... it was made two years before the .357 models came out and has the original green Xenoy grip inserts.

I finally got around to installing the spring kit. I wanted a good trigger job too so I took the gun to my favorite smith. He went ahead and installed the lightest Wolff springs in the kit. He got the trigger pull to 7lb4oz DA and 3lb SA and SMO-O-O-OTH. Now it feels like a Kahr trigger!

Roger: the smith shot 5 test rounds and I went out and shot another 15 with no failures. I was surprised (but happy) that he put in the lightest springs. Only time will tell but I'm feeling good right now. The trigger job is a game changer -- night and day difference and turns this into a really great revolver.
