I came across a message posted (by someone on a dealer site review board) which said that a cw45 won't eject 230gr ball misfires (because they're a tad "too long" I suppose)... Claims dealing with this requires levering them out with a screwdriver. Anyone else have any experience with this? The message implied that hollowpoints don't have this problem since they're a tad shorter. If true, this would require HP's for truly reliable self-defense carry... generally thought to be better for self-defense anyhow. But still, I'd like to know. It's an important point.

find that hard to believe, but one has to rack the slide swiftly to get that loaded round to leave that confned area. Rack it slow and it will hang up. MY PM9 will do that if I improper rack the slide. Just not alot of room in that area for a loaded round to come out. You do ur part the gun will do its part.
the thing that throws that round out is the ejector, not the extractor and if you rack to slow the ejector can't do its part.

Those are timely informative responses. Greg, you certainly went the extra mile with a demo extracting video even! Thanks to you both. I'm not going to worry about it. Hoping the cw45 I ordered comes in soon.

Kahr has a shorter ejection port than most, and like the oracle said, you gots to manhandle them to eject them. My P45 is like that, I keep it stoked with solid copper +p rated hollowpoints, and for administrative stuff (cleaning, showing the baby off etc.) I sometimes forget to manhandle that slide, and have to push that round out the hard way. I've also had a few go back into the pipe like that also. My thoughts say that this is why we double check.

I don't know about the other series 45s, but that has not been my experience with the CW45. It's ejection port is, let's just call it "eyeball equal", when compared to the ports on my 1911s (Colt OACP, Essex Custom and Springfield Armory Mil-Spec). Now, my Ruger P90 is a wide mouth in comparison to all four.:2eek:

I think ejector length might be critical in ejecting unfired rounds.

nice photo, sure looks close to me as being the same length. For sure that Ruger should have no issues getting a live round out of the way...

If you do a wimpy rack and didn't drop the magazine, you can have even more trouble... like another live round coming out of the magazine, and things can really get complicated in that tiny area between the chamber and breech face.
I still had the odd ejected case coming straight back at my forehead, but I'm wearing eye protection and my trusty Kahr cap... 'cause my cases aren't the only ones pelting me. I'm getting cases from the adjacent stations as well.
I still had some "weak strikes" or hard primers with that WW!00 pack of .45 FMJ. I didn't take any other ammo to try, but I DID finish up that last 100.
I get my .380 Talons tomorrow, so another range trip is necessary. I found out a disturbing fact at that range yesterday... NO A/C in the range. It was cool outside and sort of HOT in the range. I walked in front of the large floor fan and it felt like a heater... I got away from it.but where I could feel "cooling" from the air movement. That doesn't bode well for hot weather!
I'll go start watering the yard and then do a quick range report instead of parceling it out a bit here and there.

Well my P45 looks a butt hair shorter than my 1911, not by much, but enough to make live rounds hang just a bit. My Ruger P345 however, I think I could come in out of the rain with that thing.
