PM9 differences

I was looking at some pictures on-line of PM9s, and noticed something. It appears that some of them (like mine) have more of the slide sticking out past the frame than others. What's the deal?

Kahr switched to the longer, tapered end slide sometime in (late?) 2010. I've never heard an official explanation as to why.

some look like they have a grip that's been sawed off while others look to have been made that way... look at the stippling on the front straps on various guns.
