"Remington has just been awarded a $79.7 million dollar Firm Fixed-Priced (FFP) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to for up to 5,150 of their Modular Sniper Rifles (MSR) to serve as the USSOCOM’s Precision Sniper Rifles (PSR) over the next ten years. The arrangement also contracts for up to 4.6 million rounds of match-grade ammunition."
At right at $15,500 each, they should be some damn fine rifles. They are extremely versatile, accurate as hell, but for $15.5K you should get a damn nice rifle. They say it will shoot a .7 inch group at 1000 yards using the .338 Lapua Magnum configuration.
"Swap out the stainless steel barrel and the box magazine and the rifle is capable of sending .338 Lapua Magnum, .338 Norma, 300 Winchester Magnum and good old .308 Winchester downrange with equal precision."
I don't know if each rifle comes with a full set of parts for each of the calibers, I would hope it would, plus all accessories. It says each rifle is a complete package, not sure if that is for one caliber or all of them, I think it's for all calibers: "SOCOM forces will receive the rifles with caliber conversion kits as well as Advanced Armament Corporation (AAC) quick-detach Titan suppressors and muzzle brake mounts.'

Can't afford to have tours of the White House anymore but we can buy 15,000 dollar rifles that shoot near as well as my Model 70 30-06 at 15x the cost.
I'm too dumb to be in politics.

Dang! I guess it includes an integrated computer fire system for computing corrections for all weather conditions from muzzle to impact... or, it should!
I know there are many things that taxpayer money is thrown at, so maybe this one's not so bad... if it works... if the troops can really use it... and IF... IF it will stand up under "field use"!
It sure looks "klutzed" together. I like the ultra-lightweight Barretts better!
?They say it will shoot a .7 inch group at 1000 yards using the .338 Lapua Magnum configuration. ?? What? With a machine rest and NO wind?

way to much money. simply government waste. Good for Remington but IMO a waste of money Just not sure we need a 15K rifel for 1000 yard shots. They are few and far between and we have some excellent rifles that can do most all of that now and probalby hundreds of them in new crates never to be used again either
Tinman is that 7 10th of an inch group at 1000 yards or 7 inch groups at `1000 yarss. Personally I ainpt buying the 7 10th part, unless they are one shot groupls.

Ok, I'm an idiot. It's .7 MOA, not inches. I'm gonna blame lack of coffee today. So is that about a 7 inch group at 1000 yards?
Seems like the Barrett .50 does quite a bit better than that.

.7 MOA is quite a spread at 1,000 yards!
Tangent(1°/60)x1000x36"= 10.47"
.7 x 10.47"= about 7.33 inches.

We probably retained about the same useful amount of knowledge from our major studies. :D
I can't believe we have these tiny little calculators now. A Hewlett Packard calculator was the size of an IBM Selectric Typewriter when I was in college... 1969-1972... and I have NO idea what ONE of those things cost back then. Now I can do that stuff on my phone, let alone my tablet, laptop, or PC.

Roger that. Carlos Hathcock regularly engaged targets at a 1000 yds and beyond, with a Model 70.

Aww come on guys, just having a cool "tinker toy"/Transformer rifle should be worth at least 15K don't you think? Just think of all the fun the guys could have switching barrels and accessories.
I wonder if they have $5k tool kit with some wrenches and screwdrivers and some Remoil to go with it.
For that price they could have had a really nice rifle in each of the calibers, instead of this mish mash. Like what are the snipers going to do, carry all the different barrels ands accessories with them, and say, well for this shot, I need .300 Win Magnum, and then for this shot .308 will do, and swap out parts accordingly? Nah, I bet they just put together a configuration they like and stow the rest of the crap. Just more government waste of money.
I wonder which would get more use if the sniper has a choice? The Remington, or a Barrett .50?

Jeez sounds like a Barbie Doll!
You can make elegant or turn her into a lil street slut!:001_tt2:
And we wonder why our defense budget is so bloated.

bet it does have a computer on board for that $$.
MOA is based on 100 yrds so .7" MOA equals .7 inch group at 100 yrds. multiply by 10 to get 1000 yrds and you have .7" X 10+ 7" you can keep the change. Close enough for the snipe work I do since my MOA is Minute of MAN(MOM)

read today whereour wonder plane the F35 has more issues than u can count. It can't fly at night, it can'tfly in the rain. It has not be tested with any kind of armoment. It 5 years behind schedule. It can't fly with lighning. But it sure is purdy. Just sayin and in the meantime lockhead is ripping the government for billions with a plane that originally was schedule for over 2K to be produce but now is down to less than 450 MAYBE.
Oh, also the pilot can't fly with the surround helmet that was supposed to completely change the way this plane flys and fights. Our government money well spent.. Just sayin
