White House Press Secretary Jay Carney Plugs Gun Control Agenda After Shooting Tragedy

September 16, 2013 by Sam Rolley
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, prodded by reporters Monday, slipped in a plug for President Barack Obama’s gun control agenda during a press conference discussion of the tragic Navy Yard shooting in Washington.
“These are unfolding facts on an unfolding and ongoing situation and investigation with regards to this particular shooting, which is tragic,” Carney said. “As the President said, since this is taking place on a military installation, the fact that men and women who understand the risks that they’re taking when they work for the military and potentially get assigned overseas in dangerous places certainly did not imagine they were taking those kinds of risks when they showed up for work this morning on a domestic military installation.”
Though Carney took a cautious tone in answering gun-control questions when he was pressed by American Urban Radio’s April Ryan at a press gathering Monday, it appears clear that the Administration could take up a renewed push for gun control following the most recent tragedy.
“[I]t is far too early to say anything about who did this and the broader meaning of it,” Carney told reporters. “When it comes to common sense legislation to reduce gun violence, the President has been very clear.”
Carney added, “That was a shame and we will continue to work to take action to improve gun safety, to reduce gun violence in this country through executive action and, hopefully, Congress will work to reduce gun violence as well.”
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), one of the Senate’s leading voices on gun control, also referenced the President’s gun control agenda following the tragedy Monday.
“This is one more event to add to the litany of massacres that occur when a deranged person or grievance killer is able to obtain multiple weapons—including a military-style assault rifle—and kill many people in a short amount of time,” she said in a statement. “When will enough be enough? Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country. We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.”
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama spent the day criticizing Republicans who won’t go along with his agenda.

It'll be morbidly entertaining to read all the conspiracy theories about how this was staged.

What I take away from the incident is, one whack-job can infiltrate a military base and kill 12 soldiers. It worked at Ft. Hood, it worked at the Navy Yard. Because it appears he took the guns from slain officers, our government's response will probably be to make the armed people on base less armed.

That's the kind of success rate any jihadist would drool over.

Are we really all that worried about our government rounding up legal gun owners, when they can't even make a military base secure from a lone nutjob?

When trained military personelle can't carry a side arm on a military base, what you have is another GUN FREE ZONE!

Someone say Conspiracy Theories? :2eek:

They've started already. A False Flag attack, to divert attention away from Obama, and get the gun control back on track is the most prevalent so far.

My first thought, upon hearing that the shooter was black, was that it would not be perused as a gun control crisis. But since he was a vet with PTSD, they will indeed milk it for all it's worth to them. Gotta disarm those crazy vets.

I was listening to the radio on the way to work yesterday and the reporter made it a point to mention that he had a Texas CCW.

It also doesn't surprise me when my senator from CA Feinstein uses tragedies as political opportunities even while the bodies are still warm.... she is cold. She should learn to let the dust settle, let the investigation determine some things, let the families grieve, THEN proceed with her political nonsense.

Seeing as the Federal government felt like it was prudent to re-issue this a**-hat's security clearance after several criminal weapons discharges, I believe the Federal government needs to be held accountable for their failure to implement controls already in place.

Never let a tragedy go to waste. I have heard some pundits now gasping at the number of pellets in buckshot and calling it assault ammo.

Well I doubt that the DC shooter mentioned he was hearing voices when he applied for or was issued his security clearance. That's not something you usually go around telling people I would think.

Here's how the headline should read:

"Another crazy Obama supporter (or child of Obama supporter) is perpetrator in mass shooting."
